00:00Head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Brian Schottenheimer here on Sean, RJ, and Bobby, your official home of America's team
00:07before the Cowboys and the Cardinals, 9 a.m. pregame Sunday on this station.
00:11Good morning, Coach. How are you?
00:12Good morning, guys. Appreciate you guys helping me out with the extra hour.
00:16Oh, yeah. What's going on? Is it like the daylight savings change or what?
00:21No, we're letting our guys get a little rest this week.
00:23They slept in a little bit yesterday, a little bit today to get kind of caught up on the short
00:28week.
00:29Great. What's the costume?
00:31What's the what? Costume?
00:33Yeah.
00:33Oh, man. I'll be the one giving out the candy. I think we talked about that this last year.
00:37We'll give out the big candy bars, maybe some Snickers, things like that.
00:41But handing out the candy doesn't mean that you, what, that just disqualifies you from wearing the costume?
00:47Yeah, I dress up for different reasons, guys.
00:53And what's on the Schottenheimer?
00:55Yes!
00:55What's on the Schottenheimer desk in the stash that you're opening up and eating of the candies?
01:02I think we've talked about this. I'm a big licorice guy, so I go back and forth.
01:06Red Vines versus Twizzlers, yeah, I'm a Twizzlers guy.
01:09That's a very impressive memory from one year ago.
01:11That is.
01:12Okay.
01:12That is impressive.
01:13Coach, what does run first mean?
01:16Jerry came on Tuesday talking about it.
01:18I know you got asked about it in the press conference.
01:20We've had a lot of debates about it.
01:21What does run first mean to you, just general football philosophy?
01:25Well, I think the biggest thing is you guys saw us play with much more balance.
01:30That's kind of the balance that we've had when we've had our best success here.
01:33That was a big commitment after the two games against Tampa and Green Bay where we weren't able to get
01:38really much going with the running game.
01:40I think it's just the balance, and we want to be able to hurt people running and throwing.
01:44I know you want to be balanced.
01:47Russell Wilson says, Coach, I know you want to run it.
01:49We thought of that when you were in Seattle.
01:51Then we were at the combine, and you're like, no, I was trying to cut it loose a little bit
01:54more.
01:55You have other people saying, no, he definitely wants to throw it more.
01:58I know you're going to say balance, but deep down to the core, are you a passing guy or a
02:04run guy?
02:05Well, I am son of Marty Ball, so I think that probably tells you that the run game was...
02:10But you were a quarterback.
02:13Yeah, but not a very good quarterback.
02:15My best attribute was handing off the football.
02:18But I think Rex, I've heard it so many different ways.
02:21Rex was ground and pound, and it was Marty Ball.
02:26At the end of the day, there's nothing really better than being able to run the football when teams know
02:30you're going to run it,
02:31and they still can't stop you.
02:33Coach, a lot of the reason that you were able to execute that run game and they weren't able to
02:37stop
02:37was because you got probably the best game you've had this season from your offensive line.
02:41Was that just a function of, hey, Tyler Smith back for the third week
02:45and this group finally being able to kind of gel together and play together?
02:49I think it was a little bit of that for sure.
02:51I think Tyler's playing great football right now,
02:53but I think you just saw these guys when we kind of talked about it throughout the course of the
02:57week
02:57really accept the challenge against a damn good front.
03:00I mean, you guys know Philadelphia's front.
03:02I mean, Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter,
