Bobby took us Below The Belt to take a look at the growing buzz around the Cowboys potentially trading up in the NFL Draft. They discussed scenarios for moving into the top three, potential targets like David Bailey and Arvell Reese, and weighed how Dallas might choose between a pure edge rusher versus a versatile defensive weapon based on fit and upside.

00:00great bobby belt bobby knows ball hey let's talk ball we're the ball knowers and we just talk ball
00:06the solution to all your problems aka arvel reese maybe let's talk about it here in below
00:14the belt which is sponsored by window nation yesterday we've gotten this increasing chatter
00:20about how high could the cowboys go up how high could they they trade up and be aggressive to go
00:25snatch somebody that they really want and the suggestion from a couple different people and
00:31then a couple different mock drafts have been go up to three they go up to three and they they
00:36take
00:36a david bailey or they they go up there and maybe they get ahead of somebody to take sunny styles
00:43but we've seen that there's been some chatter about david bailey going number two to the jets in fact
00:48that's become kind of the most common projected pick at this point is bailey too i think peter
00:53schrager reiterated that yesterday i was him there jeremiah has been on bailey to two um i think most
01:01of the nfl insiders that you see talking about things they're saying bailey too i still think
01:04it's fascinating that rich samini in new york who's like the top jets reporter has not he's just keeps
01:10saying reese reese reese reese and so that was the odds on favorite after the combine and it had shifted
01:15lately um but fascinating nonetheless but if they take bailey and the cowboys were to go up to three
01:22then there you are staring at arvel reese so i don't know how likely this is that they would go
01:27up just like we said yesterday with bailey but we want to make sure you're covered and make sure
01:30we've talked about these guys and not just left them off the table so we'll talk about arvel reese
01:34so yesterday i went home and i did the same thing i've done the last couple days where after we've
01:38talked about something i go all right i'm gonna go make a cut up real quick and i'll post on
01:41there so
01:42i made the arvel reese cut up and i tagged you in it and you're a big fan of david
01:46bailey
01:47what are your thoughts after seeing arvel reese
01:52i think he along with downs i go to christian parker i sit down and i say is this your
02:02super
02:02weapon that's what i think of after watching him i'm like what what couldn't you do with this dude
02:09yeah i think he flies around i don't think he's going to be as good of an athlete as like
02:14michael
02:15parsons in terms of throwing guys while pass rushing that weigh 50 70 80 pounds more than him
02:23uh i think micah runs a faster 40 but like in watching arvel reese in the second level run back
02:33and forth and show the athleticism i'm more impressed with him in the second level than with
02:37micah parsons and i would sit down with christian parker and i would say is this guy your is this
02:44your super secret weapon and if he goes yes i can do anything with him that's who i'm thinking
02:52about going to get to give my give my defensive coordinator his ultimate ultimate weapon and
02:59peace he flies around he can rush the passer he's explosive freak athlete now before i i say anything
03:08else chop i know you said you have not watched highlights did you watch the one i tagged you in
03:12yesterday of arvel reese yes but not like studying i didn't blow it up what have you what are your
03:19thoughts in general his eyes went left i don't believe what are your thoughts in general of him
03:23as a player when you've just watched college football on saturdays reese uh honestly when i watched uh i
03:28mean i wasn't paying attention i didn't know his name you know when i was when i was watching him
03:32here's bruce fellman and and he talks to a lot of people i think this is the surest bet for
03:38future
03:38stardom in this draft there's a handful of other guys with really high ceilings reese not only has
03:42a sky high ceiling but an extremely high floor point blank not even the jets can screw this up
03:48at 6-4-2-41 reese who turns 21 in august overtook caleb downs as the biggest star of the
03:55buckeyes
03:55terrific defense by mid-september rival big 10 coaches were raving about his ability to menace
04:02their offensive game plans he's rangy he's explosive he ran a 4-4-6 at the combine he strikes
04:08violently on the field with elite elite knockback his stats might not have been eye-popping but his film
04:14is a big 10 offensive coach quote they asked him to do a ton he's elated everything that they asked
04:21him
04:21to do he's playing stack linebacker better than the guy who only plays stack linebacker then he
04:26goes to edge and rushes the passer better than the guys who only have to rush the passer he's setting
04:31the edge just as good as guys who are 40 pounds heavier then he's just covering as well as the
04:35nickel and caleb downs are covering the guy is an alien and he's clearly very smart because he's doing
04:41so much for them he's playing that adjuster spot which is what they call that position in the
04:46belichick tree you've got to be really smart to play it i think he's incredible i hope he goes
04:50somewhere that is going to be aggressive in how they use them the same way as mcdonald did with
04:54imam wari dallas with micah and then another big 10 offensive coordinator quote to finish up
05:00man he's super impressive they did so much stuff defensively he was so dangerous as a spy he's
05:05really freaky he's different i i don't this is not a slide to micah i don't believe he'll he'll be
05:14as good of a pass rusher as micah parsons yeah you have to say he's going to be a hall
05:18of famer there
05:18is a chance he could be a better overall player than micah parsons because he is a very good cover
05:26player he is a very good run defender he is a very good pass rusher micah is a a historic
05:35pass rusher
05:36who is decent at times in coverage and struggles sometimes against the run and so like i mean if you
05:43if you depending on how you weight things and things like that you could look at it and say
05:47reese if he reaches that level at the nfl then he could be a better player overall um because he's
05:54just i think most teams are going to tell him you're playing edge that's what you're going to do
05:59you're going to rush the passer mostly there was not a game he played at ohio state where he was
06:03primarily a pass rusher he played linebacker most of the time and he just he would rush in spots and
06:09he
06:09would you know be asked to play some edge he had given an interview with uh ben solak over at
06:14espn
06:15where he said because he was a linebacker and he was just kind of used situationally
06:20he never worked as a pass rusher at ohio state so because he's never worked at pass rush into his
06:27entire career like it never worked in terms of like putting them there never produced they no like
06:31he didn't practice there at all and he had basically said that i've never really learned
06:38how to pass rush and learned how to do that i've never been coached up on it so he said
06:42like his
06:43pass rush plan he was kind of making it up as he went along just based on like feel which
06:47is kind
06:47of how micah did it early on and then micah started learning okay i got tools i can use this
06:50and that's
06:51the reason why people have such scary upside for reese is because they're like he hasn't even been
06:54coached up on this as soon as we teach him how to use those tools you you are not going
06:58to be able
06:58to block him uh franklin franklin injury attorneys fan text 877-811-1053 from the 901 trade these
07:04picks for proving all pros his team stinks at drafting and developing uh i mean go check out
07:09their first round success it's just not true even though there's been a lot of misses in some
07:14you know weak recent draft classes by will mcclay and his staff i mean compare their first round
07:21success to others and to be fair the miss and they can't afford to trade for all current all pros
07:28and
07:28also to be fair some their misses have largely come in the 20s you know when they've been drafted
07:35in the 20s which are i mean surely not sure if guys in the top 10 aren't sure things the
07:41guys in
07:41the 20s aren't sure second round has not been consistent for them they they make a lot of
07:46throws there but i mean they are the best early day three drafting team in the nfl over the last
07:5010
07:50years early day three early day fourth round they they have i can't remember what the numbers they've put
07:56out several pro bowlers from fourth round picks and even the guys who aren't pro bowlers are like
08:01regular like dalton schultz was a fourth rounder tony pollard was a fourth rounder dak like they've
08:05hit on fourth round picks consistently but also like in second round you know they're right at league
08:09average in terms of getting guys second contract and then they just gamble in the second yeah they
08:13go we get a more sure thing in the first let's take a little bit of risk see if we
08:17can get something
08:17there but they've been a solidly drafting team for the most part did they have have they had a couple
08:22classes that miss yeah but that is the norm across the nfl you will have classes that basically miss
08:26the entire thing genti looked like a beast in college now he's just a guy that's i think it's
08:31the way to tell him that one arvel reese reminds me of ryan shazier another ohio state player spend
08:36the money other teams do it so he looks at there are times when you look at him it does
08:40look like
08:40micah yeah like like if you told me that's micah in an ohio state uniform in college i'd be like
08:45yeah
08:45i could see like some of the pass or stuff he does when he gets like you know extends the
08:48arm and
08:49jabs and it looks like him now that you've seen both of them and we're talking about trading up
08:54and going up and reese like i said i think the cowboys would play him at edge if he was
08:57here
08:57i don't think he'd be playing linebacker for them so he'd be rushing the passer pretty much all the
09:01time but now that you've seen both of them bailey or reese who would you say like i feel more
09:07confident that guy's gonna be a stud you may feel like both of them are but who would you if
09:11you had
09:11i mean i feel more confident that bailey is gonna if you're telling me if you were the jets who
09:16are
09:16you picking i don't know the rest of their personnel but the the way i'll answer it first
09:22is if you're telling me that reese is also just gonna like primarily rush the passer i'm gonna
09:27probably take bailey to do that i'll take bailey as the pass rusher i'll take reese as the weapon
09:33i asked christian parker like how much do you want to use him a linebacker how much do you want
09:37to have
09:38him do different things and i would hope that he says versatility that's all we keep hearing is
09:43versatility if it's just gonna be to rush the passer i've seen bailey do it more and he's a
09:48freaking monster yeah and it's when you watch there was some stuff in that cut up that i put in
09:53there
09:53like i would hope that reese does help solve my linebacker room a little bit there there are a lot
09:59of people who think he should play linebacker in the nfl that he should not go to edge most of
10:03the nfl
10:04thinks he should go to edge because like i said when they watch him rush to the passer in such
10:07a limited
10:07opportunity yeah and be as impactful as he is and not even really knowing how to do it
10:12it's really easy for them to look at it and go that's micah that was micah and we could this
10:16is
10:16this is our chance to go get the micah player but man he if he had to play linebacker i
10:22think he is an
10:22all-pro linebacker if he comes because just what he does he's so smart he is relentless pursuing guys
10:31yeah he is really great and i mean you you probably saw on some of the stuff he will blow
10:36up a blocker
10:36he'll crash into him knock him off their feet and then wrap up the ball carrier he will cover
10:41tight ends 25 yards down the field and then he's just flat out rushing on the next play you can
10:46see
10:46him blow up a play as a linebacker you can see him cover 20 yards down the field on the
10:51next snap and
10:52then on third down you can see him collect a sack like that's the ability that he has bailey on
10:56the
10:56other hand is just going to be hey if you need pure defensive end pure edge rusher that guy is
11:00just
11:01that that's like the standard that's guy who can come and start and be a monster what do you think
11:05christian parker would have more fun with between downs or reese um in in his system as in who do
11:13i
11:13think they would have higher who do i think that he would like like using the most like using um
11:19i
11:20think he would have more versatility with downs i think they would probably if they were facing both
11:26and they would pick reese and i think if they were faced i think if the cowboys were faced with
11:31reese or
11:31bailey i think they take reese reese or bailey yeah i think if they were looking at reese or bailey
11:36they would take reese that's just my guess based on so you think he's gonna be the better edge rusher
11:41yeah i think they think that there's a i think like most of the nfl they think there's just a
11:45massive upside there as an edge rusher and i think that i just going by the way christian
11:50parker has talked about things reese sounds more like the player he's described than bailey does
11:53you
