00:00Archaeological researchers in Germany have made a really interesting discovery.
00:04In a cave, they came across some old antlers and bones and ivory objects.
00:09They were very small, but incised on their surfaces were hash marks and crosses.
00:14And they interpreted these marks by using a computer.
00:19And the computer results show that these were likely forms of writing.
00:23Their complexity and their arrangement resembled that of some of the earliest currently known
00:28forms of writing, which date back to about 3500 BC from ancient Sumer.
00:33And the interesting thing about these finds is that they're not just 5,000 years old.
00:39They're actually 40,000 years old.
00:42So if this is what we think it is, it's evidence of the very oldest writing ever found.
