00:00In the small town of Lichtenau in western Germany, just across from the French border,
00:04researchers have recently uncovered a tunnel right below the main street of the town.
00:09Now, the town was built in the mid-1300s.
00:12The tunnel, they think, comes from the mid-1500s.
00:15And during this time, however, there was a lot of strife in this part of Germany.
00:20Towns and principalities, municipalities would all struggle against each other in what were called feuds.
00:25They were quite violent.
00:27During this time, people, the researchers believe, would have had to take shelter.
00:32And this sort of tunnel would have been perfect in these times of strife.
