00:00Archaeologists have just made an incredible discovery in the city of Trabzon, Turkey.
00:04Now Trabzon is a very interesting ancient city.
00:07It was founded in about 750 BC by Hellenic Greek peoples and later became its own empire,
00:13the Pontic Empire, and was then conquered by the Persian Empire before finally being
00:18conquered by the Romans in about 50 BC.
00:21Almost 200 years later, there was something incredible built under the city.
00:27It was a tunnel that carried water.
00:29Now, it's quite long.
00:31What the archaeologists just discovered was a section that's about 1,300 feet long.
00:35It's built of stone, it's an amazing arch structure, and it carried water perhaps locally into the
00:43city toward the port for ships that were coming in and out, or it might have been part of a
00:48longer aqueduct that led inland to supply Roman troops occupying the region.
