00:03The reason for this is something called cryptic species.
00:06A cryptic species isn't something that's hiding from you,
00:09except in the sense that it resembles another species.
00:12But when you look at its genes, you realize, well, it's something else entirely.
00:17This recently happened to a couple of researchers
00:19working on something called chitons in Korea.
00:23And they thought that they had found just another member of another chiton species.
00:27Now, chitons are living fossils. They're very common around the world.
00:30But doing a genetic analysis of their samples showed
00:33they had found an entirely new species.
