00:09The theory is called panpsychism, and we recently did a story on it.
00:12Theory dates all the way back to ancient Greece when philosophers were talking about the idea
00:16that the world is full of intelligence, and it recently came back into conversation when
00:20scientists realized that they still can't really pinpoint where consciousness, or the
00:24thing that makes you, you, where it comes from.
00:26And in this recent story, we had an expert weigh in his opinion, and he completely disagrees.
00:32He thinks that where panpsychists go wrong is thinking that consciousness is everywhere
00:36when it really is just an illusion.
00:39He thinks that our brains are making up consciousness because we are essentially too smart for our
00:46own good, and that's completely terrifying.
