The Prime Minister has toured the UWI South Campus in Debe on Monday.

This, as the Prime Minister is reaffirming her administration's commitment to opening the facility for students across Trinidad and Tobago.

00:00Prime Minister Kamla Pasad-Basasa has toured the U.S. Debe campus as rehabilitation works are underway.

00:11Prime Minister Pasad-Basasa said the tour on Monday reaffirmed her government's commitment
00:15to opening the facility for students across Trinidad and Tobago.
00:20Prime Minister Pasad-Basasa said that during the tour of the U.S. campus in Debe,
00:25she received updates from project teams on the ongoing restoration works
00:29and the structured plan to bring the campus into operation.
00:33In November of last year, the government announced it had allocated $200 million for those works.
00:39On its website, U.S. says approximately 40.5 hectares or 100 acres in the vicinity of the Debe High
00:45School
00:46has been identified for the U.S. St. Augustine South Campus.
00:49The UNC-led government has said it is expecting the U.S. Debe campus to be reopened for the new
00:55academic year
00:55as it has blamed its dilapidated state on the former PNM administration.
01:00During her tour of the facility, Prime Minister Pasad-Basasa emphasized that the Debe campus
01:05is a critical investment in expanding access to tertiary education,
01:09particularly for students in South Trinidad,
01:12ensuring that opportunity is not limited by geography or financial constraints.
01:17The Prime Minister added that the reopening of the campus will not only benefit students
01:21but also stimulate economic activity and job creation in surrounding communities.
