And what does the Prime Minister have to say about the re-arrest Housing Minister Lee?

00:00TV6 News saw to comment from Prime Minister Kamala Pesad-Besessa following the announcement by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service on Tuesday that Housing Minister David Lee and the proprietor of Sport Outlet Limited were taken into custody by officers of the police service and were undergoing standard processing.
00:19Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa told TV6 News, quote, We have respect for the courts of the land. Minister Lee was acquitted of these allegations before. Now that the charges have been relayed, we have confidence in the courts to deliver a just result, end quote.
00:35In early April of this year, the then-acting Chief Magistrate upheld no-case submissions made by Mr. Lee's attorneys regarding charges laid against him and the businessman in 2022 following allegations of conspiring to defraud the state of more than $1.4 million in motor vehicle taxes and allegations of misbehavior in public office.
00:56Mr. Lee declared his innocence and expressed his gratitude to his legal team and his political leader.
01:01I also like to thank, to the bottom of my heart, the Honorable Kamala Pesad-Besessa, who stood at my side for the last three years.
01:12Mr. Lee went on to win the currently central constituency as part of the victory by the UNC and its coalition of interests in the 2025 general election on April 28th.
01:23Shortly thereafter, he was appointed as the Minister of Housing.
