Health Minister Dr Lackram Bodoe is to tour the Central Block to determine how soon it can be opened, he offered an update at Thursday's post cabinet media briefing.

00:00Health Minister Dr. Lacram Bodo will soon find out when the central block of the Port
00:05of Spain General Hospital will be open and operational.
00:10The central block of Port of Spain is currently still under the control of Udicot.
00:19My information is that I can't give a completion date but my information is that work is going
00:26on and I intend to meet with Udicot in the very near future and perhaps do a tour of that
00:33hospital to establish its state of readiness.
00:36Speaking at the Post Cabinet media briefing on Thursday, he was also quizzed on the full
00:40use of the Coover Hospital.
00:43The Coover Hospital remains a very valuable asset to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:49At this time we are looking at all the options available to fully operationalize the Coover
00:53Hospital. It is quite worrisome at this point in time that there are no more than 20 to
01:0125 patients occupying beds in the Coover Hospital and that is a 230-bed hospital.
01:07But government, he explains, is still deliberating on what the hospital initially intended as
01:12a children's facility is to be used for.
01:16With the injection of some 500 beds when the central block is completed, it gives the government
01:24the option to look at the Coover Hospital.
01:27You will recall that part of the government's mandate in building the Coover Hospital was
01:32to look at it in terms of becoming a tertiary medical center perhaps with the capability to
01:39earn forex.
01:40And when it comes to Tobago, it is expected the cardiac catheterization lab will soon be
01:45operating at full capacity.
01:48Tobago deserves the same kind of care as the people of Trinidad and we are happy to report
01:54that this equipment seems to be in fairly good condition but of course we have asked for
01:58a formal update in terms of the state of readiness of that equipment.
02:04So there has been quite a few minutes prior to doing well.
02:10There was a lot of time when we dói and I went to check it out but I'm sure we are
02:13working on a track of different projects with the other a little bit.
