Some of this country's students were among the first to receive what is to be a total of 2,000 laptops from India to be delivered across all educational districts.

The initial handover occurred during a ceremony at the Parliament today as the Prime Minister is hosting India's External Affairs Minister who is on an official trip to this country.

00:00A symbolic handover of laptops from India took place in the Rotunda of the Red House in Port of Spain
00:05as Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa welcomed India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subramanyam Jaishankar, to Trinidad and Tobago.
00:14The visit followed the official visit last year by India's Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi,
00:19when several commitments were made, including the delivery of 2,000 laptops for students across all educational districts.
00:26Mr. Excellency, to your High Commissioner who is doing a tremendous job here in Trinidad and Tobago,
00:32and to you and Prime Minister Modi, our eternal gratitude out of love, friendship and family.
00:39We have family relations and now we have nation-to-nation relationships.
00:43So please welcome Dr. Jaishankar, as we thank you very much again.
00:48I ask you once more to kindly convey the assurances of the highest regard of the government and the people
00:54of Trinidad and Tobago
00:55to your brilliant, strong leader, Prime Minister Modi.
01:00India's External Affairs Minister recalled that he was part of the delegation that travelled with Prime Minister Modi
01:06to Trinidad and Tobago last year.
01:08And I was telling the Prime Minister that perhaps one of the defining characteristics,
01:13personal traits of Prime Minister Modi is a very strong follow-up.
01:18When he makes a commitment, he expects to get it done.

01:32What we have handed over is not just an instrument.
01:39It is in many ways, and I say this to the boys and girls who received them,
01:45this is awareness, it is opportunity, it is in many ways connecting yourself to all that is happening in the

01:56And today we are fair square in the middle of a digital era, moving towards one of artificial intelligence.
02:06Our lives are going to change, and probably the best thing we can do for our young people is to
02:11prepare them for that.
02:13Earlier, Prime Minister Pasad Bissassa delivered a statement during the sitting of the House of Representatives
02:18while India's External Affairs Minister was present.
02:21In the coming weeks, Trinidad and Tobago will also receive 20 haemodialysis units.

02:30You know, we have a lot of persons needing that kind of care, dialysis care.
02:34We will be receiving again, courtesy of Prime Minister Modi and the government and people of India.
02:45We will also receive two sea ambulances, and I talked about this being most important, two sea ambulances.
02:53So the trips from Trinidad to Tobago, Trinidad, will strengthen healthcare delivery and emergency medical response.
03:00Prime Minister Pasad Bissassa and Minister Jaishankar are scheduled to officially launch the National Prosthetics Center in Penal on Saturday.
03:09The Prime Minister said that 800 citizens benefited from the Limb Fitment Initiative from the Government of India.
