The date for the meeting this week between the U.S Secretary of State and the Prime Minister has been confirmed by a member of the Prime Minister's delegation in the U.S.
This as the Prime Minister said in an official social media post the delegation from Trinidad and Tobago which she led at the United Nations General Assembly in New York had a very successful time there.
00:00In response to a question from TV6 News, Public Utilities Minister and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Barry Padua, confirmed that Prime Minister Kamala Pesad-Besessa and her delegation will be in Washington on Tuesday for a meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
00:17The Public Utilities Minister is a member of the Trinidad and Tobago delegation in the U.S. being led by the Prime Minister. The meeting with the Secretary of State is set to occur as the administration led by Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa has expressed its full support for recent U.S. military strikes on what the U.S. President Donald Trump has identified as boats with narco-terrorists from Venezuela carrying illegal drugs.
00:42That support was reiterated by the Prime Minister during her national statement to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday.
00:51In an official social media post on Sunday, Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa gave a summary of the delegation's participation at the UNGA, which included an update on her meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations on Saturday.
01:04Many of the issues have been raised over the past week. Many of the issues have been common from several delegations, climate change, gender equity, safety, security, financial security, food security, all these areas.
01:21SGH has pledged solidarity and support for these initiatives and I think we had a very successful time here at the UN.
01:28There was also an update from the Prime Minister regarding bilateral meetings, including her meeting with the Crown Prince of Kuwait.
01:37Several initiatives we have achieved outside of the UN with respect to bilateral agreements.
01:44We signed last evening an MOU with the UAE and they have pledged to help us rehabilitate the Kuba Children's Hospital and several other developmental projects.
01:57So we've been very successful in the bilaterals with Kuwait, with the UAE.
02:02We have a greater assistance with development funding for every area, national security, food security, infrastructure development.
02:08So we have some good news to take back to Trinidad and to be good.
