Mid-April feels a lot more like summer than spring across the Northeast.
Transcript
00:00So, Anna, farther north, a lot of heat out there as well, some near record highs.
00:04Yes, and we are going to start to see a change here, but we have another couple of days of
00:11summer-like heat and the record-challenging highs, like Jeff mentioned.
00:15So, it's a little bit of a tale of two different forecasts here, because we have round after round of
00:21heavy rainfall and some of these storms on the strong-to-severe side, for everybody highlighted in green.
00:25We've been showing you the areas we're most concerned about for severe weather and some other segments of the show,
00:30but then we also have the warmth that's fueling some of this severe weather, but it doesn't necessarily last.
00:37Let me show you the rain focusing in on the northeast, because I know a little bit further west is
00:42maybe the bigger focus with severe weather, but we've seen more numerous severe storms so far this week,
00:48but we're certainly going to see issues as we go through the rest of tonight and into tomorrow in the
00:53northeast.
00:53Take a look at all the reds, the yellows, and the oranges on future radar first.
00:57I mean, flooding downpours, this is going to cause some ponding and likely at least localized flash flooding.
01:02It's not just one round, though.
01:04We're going into Thursday, 4 p.m.
01:06We start to see some of those signs of what could turn into some severe storms, but then also some
01:13downpours along with it.
01:15Very scattered in the northeast, some of the heavier, more widespread rainfall is further west,
01:20but keep in mind, it's those individual storms that can really pack a punch when it comes to damaging wind,
01:25hail, and even an isolated tornado or two.
01:28Friday, we continue with more rain and thunderstorms, so the umbrella, the rain jacket, you want them on standby.
01:33Also, your AccuWeather app so that you're getting notified of any watches or warnings that are issued for you,
01:38and also those lightning notifications, because even if it's not severe, lightning still poses a threat.
01:43We go into Saturday, there's just more where that came from.
01:46We're stuck in this pattern.
01:47When we talk about Thursday overall, it depends on where you are, how hot it's going to feel.
01:52As we head along the coast, as tends to happen, we have that onshore flow, and we get a little
01:57bit of a cooling effect.
01:58However, as we head especially into the mid-Atlantic here, that's where we're talking record-challenging highs.
02:04Let's look at your Thursday highs compared to historical average, just to give you a little bit more perspective here.
02:09We're pushing 70 in Boston, certainly warmer than it should be, but take a look at D.C., 95.
