As heat and humidity soar in the Northeast for the first weekend of June, summer storms could turn severe.
Transcript
00:00Later in the evening, storms will be knocking on our door, so the heat really builds here during the day.
00:05D.C., Richmond, temps into the low to mid-90s.
00:08How are we doing compared to records?
00:10Well, among all these cities, Dulles, Virginia, the period of record doesn't go as far back in the books here,
00:15so it kind of misses some of the historical heat.
00:181925, for example, was really hot, 97 in D.C. on June 6th.
00:22Well, in Dulles, we got a shot at a record high at 93.
00:25Other areas a little shy of records.
00:27We may be close in Richmond, records 96, we're forecasting 94.
00:31But it's going to be hot, and then those strong and severe storms will be rumbling in,
00:36coming in from the west and the northwest, very active during the day in Ohio and Pennsylvania,
00:41and then rolling into the I-95 area on Saturday evening.
00:45The severe risk, we did nudge things a little farther east.
00:49Our moderate risk area, two out of four, continues all the way through the Poconos and Catskills,
00:54and then into the evening, look out for some strong and severe thunderstorms.
00:58But overall, central Ohio and upstate New York, wind, hail, flooding, all concerns for some big cities like Pittsburgh
01:05and also places like Binghamton as well, in on some of that.
01:09So we're going to be tracking these showers and storms rolling east in many areas here.
01:14Some of these will be severe.
01:15And then by the time we hit Sunday, the storms may, showers may linger a little farther north.
01:20There's Saturday evening, by the way.
01:22As we get into Sunday, well, we have some lingering showers and storms.
01:26The strongest of these will be probably south of D.C.
01:30That's where there's a limited severe risk lingering.
