00:01Well, I want to know if we have to claim victory here for your Cleveland Browns already.
00:07Are we ready for Laser Eyes Andrew Barry after I explain this to you?
00:12Folks, real quick, we do have Daryl Ryder joining us at 820 this morning.
00:15And Jason Benetti, who is the voice of NBC Sunday Night Baseball,
00:20one of the finest people in broadcasting, one of the finest play-by-play broadcasters out there.
00:25Like, to me, he's not Fanta because Fanta's a close personal friend of ours.
00:29Maybe Benetti will be a close personal friend of ours by the end of all of this.
00:32Maybe he'll be up there, but he's, like, right underneath Fanta for me.
00:35Because I don't know the guy personally, but I know Fanta personally.
00:37Here's the thing about Benetti, and I've crossed paths with him when I was up in Syracuse.
00:41He was calling the AAA games at the time.
00:47There's so much jealousy in a sports broadcasting business, especially Syracuse guys.
00:51Did he have the door open from the bathroom looking over like the other guy we know?
00:55Don't comment on that.
00:56Moving on.
00:56So, the thing about Benetti is nobody actually is jealous of him.
01:02He's the one guy where people are like, he deserves it.
01:05He's good.
01:05He's awesome.
01:06That's a good point.
01:07Because he is good.
01:08Yeah.
01:08He is really good.
01:09Like, Parkins, Nick Wright, you know, the bevy of, not Philip Pony, because what's there to be jealous of.
01:14But all these guys that have, like, gotten huge.
01:17Like, Syracuse guys will snipe at other Syracuse guys.
01:21Nobody's jealous of Jace Benetti.
01:22People are like, that guy's awesome.
01:24One of the days, those other two are going to open up the book for Pony, and you're going to
01:27regret this nasty stuff you say,
01:29because you know he listens to every word, because he rips us off.
01:312-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
01:34So, yeah.
01:34Pony rips off the show, and Pony's not as successful as the other friend.
01:38They're probably collecting the phones the first hour of their show today.
01:41We don't have our phones on us, so don't text us unless you're my wife, and then maybe Owen will
01:44get the message to me.
01:45But we're pretending like we're at the Masters right now.
01:47Now, Evan Cedary, who is, hopefully I'm saying his name right, he is an NFL reporter.
01:52I check it to make sure, you know, there's 66,000 followers, because you never know.
01:57And I think that, you know, we've had him on the station, I think, before.
02:01Ian Rappaport is saying that technically the Jaguars are planning to make Travis Hunter a full-time cornerback.
02:13And immediately I went, well, do we win the trade?
02:17Now, I don't believe in, I firmly, I don't try to win trades.
02:21I think the best trades are partnerships where both teams can try to do their best to get better,
02:25because you don't want to be a team that, like, I look at the Texans, I don't trust anything the
02:31Texans send us anymore.
02:32Like, I'm sorry, like, I know we just got Titus Howard, and I hope he's good, but I'm just like,
02:37man,
02:38anything that the Texans do with us, I just, mmm, my God.
02:43But it seems that they're going to make Travis Hunter a full-time corner, which probably he should be.
02:47Okay?
02:48That there will be a couple of packages.
02:50It seems that their plans, according to Ian Rappaport, is to make him a more full-time corner.
02:58Well, you don't trade up to number two.
03:00From where was it, number 11?
03:01You don't trade up to number two for a full-time corner.
03:05Unless that corner is Deion Sanders.
03:07But even Deion Sanders wasn't Deion Sanders when he was in college.
03:11He was a great player, but it wasn't Deion.
03:13He's fifth overall.
03:16Do we win the trade, or let me ask, do I have to be quiet because one team made the
03:22playoffs, and it wasn't us last year?
03:24No, I thought, honestly, it was a win on draft night.
03:28Now, it's not just because I had said the things I had said about Travis Hunter that I was not
03:33nearly under,
03:34I wasn't as impressed.
03:35Like, obviously, he was amazing in college, and he was so much fun to watch.
03:40But I thought the conversations got carried away as we were getting closer to the draft,
03:44as they tend to do for somebody like him, who was a freak of nature.
03:48I said, whenever was this guy considered the best wide receiver or the combination of both, the best corner?
03:57I'm like, I don't remember ever hearing this, and I think we got closer to the draft,
04:02and people got intoxicated with the thought of seeing a two-way player because we don't see him.
04:08Which, when I was younger, guys, it felt like, got more of an opportunity.
04:14Who was it for the New England Patriots on their original Super Bowl runs?
04:18Was it Troy Brown?
04:18Troy Brown, yeah.
04:19Yeah.
04:20Played corner.
04:21Some corner.
04:21It was awesome to see, but it was, you know, I don't want to call it a gimmick.
04:25You'd rather not have to do it.
04:26You'd rather not have to do it.
04:27Yeah.
04:27I don't even know if it's a gimmick.
04:29I think that most of these things are born out of necessity.
04:32You got a guy that goes down, all of a sudden, it's like, well, I got to put a guy
04:35out there at corner.
04:35I got to do something with a safety.
04:37Did you play safety in college?
04:38Yeah, I played a little bit of safety.
04:39I was recruited as a safety, then it became a wide, you know, something like that.
04:43Yes.
04:43Well, it was the fifth overall pick that they traded for, and if he was just a cornerback,
04:49you would have just picked him at five.
04:50He would have been there at five.
04:51There you go.
04:52That's exactly.
04:53And I hit the break a little bit.
04:56They ended up also giving up pick 36 and pick 124.
05:01Because I think of this situation, if I'm doing champions pose, and I'm going, yeah, we got the Jags.
05:07It's like, one team did make the playoffs last year, and one team's probably looking to make
05:11the playoffs again, and again, it still ain't us.
05:14Right.
05:14I understand that.
05:15It's like a weird, like I got a, there's a weird analogy to it.
05:18It's a little greasy.
05:20Like, I had a buddy, he was pretty greasy in college, who, he was maybe sleeping with
05:27this other guy's girlfriend.
05:28And the other guy did not know it, and hated, my buddy Patrick, hated him.
05:34And I remember there was like a big, like, like, jacket thing, some giveaway, I don't
05:41know, we were at the radio station, and this one guy wins something.
05:46And he goes right up to the guy, and the guy's making fun of him, and it's like a jacket,
05:51and it almost, I sound like Richie Aprile.
05:53And he goes up to him, and he's making fun of him, because he didn't win the jacket.
05:57It was up to them, too.
05:58And he goes, you keep the jacket, I'll have the sex.
06:01And it almost became a fistfight.
06:04Yeah, I imagine so.
06:05And then it became a fistfight afterwards, after we actually walked outside.
06:09That is rubbing it in.
06:11And I think about this going, yeah, we'll keep the pick, we'll go to the playoffs.
06:15So I can't.
06:18What an analogy.
06:19That's incredible.
06:20Because I'm trying to clean it up, because there was obviously some salty language being
06:23thrown around.
06:24It was pretty tawdry.
06:24This might be one of your best ones ever.
06:25Well, I'm sorry.
06:26It's incredible.
06:27I'm trying to protect the innocent here.
06:29And we'll talk more about that coming up at 745, with pictures being shopped around
06:32on TMZ and everything.
06:34But this is kind of how I'm thinking.
06:37Like, can I, can I do laser eyes?
06:40Can I talk about 4D chess with Andrew Barry?
06:43My team's won five games last year.
06:45Yeah, I have to say.
06:45And the other team went to the playoffs.
06:47Now, I don't think it's going to help long term, but.
06:49Normally, I would come in and say, Kenny, this is lunacy.
06:52We're the bad team.
06:53No, this is how, this is, that was to me, more of the formal start of the rebuild.
07:01By trading out of the sexy pick.
07:03That's the fair.
07:03And doing the responsible thing.
07:06Exactly.
07:06Now, you're not going to like my next part of this.
07:08Go ahead.
07:09Which is probably the next part of the rebuild should have been trading Miles Garrett.
07:13Because I, I have said the whole time, and I know it's, I know no one's going to want
07:18to hear that, but a responsible GM in, in really igniting the rebuild would have been
07:26to get that massive haul for Miles Garrett.
07:30Because look at your timetable.
07:32Look at your, and I know Miles still looks like he's in his absolute prime.
07:36So it's debatable.
07:37I got more about that coming up here in less than 10 minutes.
07:40Um, cause I'm, I'm done with something, but I'll, I'll talk about that later.
07:44Uh, that is part of it.
07:47I thought you were going to lead me to another thing.
07:49And I wanted to talk about this later too, even with Daryl, but I'll say it now.
07:52I'm seeing some people saying, let's stop this trade back bleep.
07:56It's time to go out and take a player.
07:57And I'm going, the responsible thing is probably to trade back in this draft.
08:00And for a guy like Andrew Barry, if you're able to get, like, if you trade Miles Garrett
08:05for first round picks in the future, it's like, okay, your, your job's done here.
08:08Like you'll be fired after the end of the year.
08:10You're a lame duck.
08:11You've done probably what's best for the franchise, but you're a lame duck general manager.
08:16If he were able to get another first round pick in 2027, like we read some reports that
08:21Dallas, cause Dallas is crazy.
08:23Maybe they're willing to trade up with you.
08:24And I'm like, I'm thinking if I can get a first round pick from the Cowboys for next year
08:28for 2027, damn it.
08:31I can't say fully.
08:32Cause I don't know how this season's going to go.
08:34And if the bottom falls out and these young players don't look good and this draft looks
08:37bad, like there's no argument I can make, but damn it.
08:40If you're able to get a first round pick from last year and Travis Hunter's already being
08:44switched to a full-time corner, allegedly, and I'm able to get a 2027 first round pick
08:50out of another trade going into next year and a draft that should be better than this one.
08:53I know, I know, but should be better than this one.
08:56I'm like, man, I'm almost willing to guarantee this guy's future.
08:58With this franchise going, all right, you had one quarterback who, even though I didn't
09:04want the guy, nobody could deny that that quarterback was more physically gifted than
09:08the quarterback we already had.
09:10Even I couldn't, I didn't want to make the trade and I'll take it to the grave.
09:13And anybody who listened back then knows where I was on that and vehemently was on that.
09:18However, you knew that one guy was better.
09:20Maybe you actually do trust him to go, okay, you've made another first round pick.
09:24Maybe you get another whack at this, taking a guy in 2027.
09:27Now that's a lot to say on an April morning before even this 2026 draft.
09:33But I'm just thinking, man, if you're able to get another first round pick, if you're
09:35willing to trade down, do the responsible thing, and somebody's willing to go up, you
09:40already, I think, got the better help for you with Mason Graham.
09:44I think Mason Graham has already had a solid start to his career.
09:47I think he's going to blossom into a very good defensive lineman and be very, very good
09:51with this defensive front.
09:52That all pointed out, maybe you can have it happen again where the responsible thing
09:57is to trade back and do it.
09:58I'm just wondering still, can I celebrate this thing?
10:01I don't think I can celebrate it.
10:03I just look at it and go, it was still a nice, responsible decision.
10:06We got ourselves a solid player and a solid foundation for the future.
10:09And look, those are the tough decisions, especially with a fan base that they started.
10:14Remember, the conversations about Travis Hunter really ratcheted up before the draft last year.
10:21I mean, if you recall, a lot of the shows we were doing, I mean, people really got excited
10:25about him.
10:26And so the organization is like, nope, that sexy player that you're going to be able to
10:30market, they're going to be putting on all the billboards because he's going to be a
10:34two-way player, this unique unicorn of football players.
10:38No, we're taking the guy in the trenches, not even a sack guy, even though Mason Graham actually
10:43ended up showing some of that potential too.
10:45You're just taking a guy that's going to clog the lanes.
10:48And they did it.
10:49And the more important part of it was they got a draft pick.
10:52Now, unfortunately, Jacksonville ended up being so good that you kept every week, it
10:57seemed like, what are we, picking 35th in the first round next year?
11:01Like, it was crazy.
11:02But still, you did the right thing.
11:04And hopefully, you know, you're going to end up seeing the outcomes be pretty solid in
11:10this year's draft.
