03 April - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there.
00:01Well, he wasn't invited, but Storm Dave is joining us this bank holiday weekend with
00:06it bringing some strong winds, heavy rain, even some snow across Scotland, with a few
00:10weather warnings out in force for the bank holiday weekend, so keep an eye on our website
00:15for those.
00:16And that has brightened up a little this afternoon, but there's still some cloud and drizzle
00:19out there.
00:19And it's really into tomorrow that we start to see Storm Dave get picked up by the jet
00:24stream, intensify, and that's when it starts to bring us some strong winds, some heavy
00:28rain, particularly later Saturday and as we head through into Easter Sunday.
00:32But before I give you the details on Storm Dave, I just want to rewind the clock a little
00:36bit and talk about this afternoon, because like I said, there is some brightness out there,
00:41particularly across England and Wales, some bright, if not sunny spells, a bit of a breeze,
00:45but feeling warm in any sunshine.
00:47But across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, northern parts of England, some quite persistent
00:52spells of rain.
00:53This could turn a little heavy at times and plenty of showers moving across Scotland.
00:57And these likely turning wintry across high ground.
01:00And fairly chilly across the north too, highs only reaching around 8 to 9 degrees Celsius,
01:05but across much of England and Wales, highs reaching around 16 degrees Celsius, so feeling
01:10very warm in the sunshine, particularly in any sheltered spots.
01:14Now in through this evening, any cloud and drizzle across the south eventually clearing away.
01:19Still a few showers feeding in at times, but even these eventually easing away through
01:24the course of the night.
01:24So lots of clear skies, lots of dry weather, but under those clear skies turning quite chilly,
01:29maybe even a patchy frost across parts of the north.
01:32Still a fair few showers moving through across Scotland, these still likely falling as snow
01:36across high ground.
01:37And a little bit of cloud just starting to push into Wales, southwest England, this thick
01:42enough to produce some drizzle.
01:43So a little milder here, but for many it's going to be quite chilly, but a fairly bright start
01:48to Saturday morning.
01:50Now it's through the course of Saturday, even though it's quite a calm morning, that we'll
01:54eventually see Storm Dave take hold.
01:57A real strong wind starting to pick up in parts of the west, some heavy outbreaks of rain initially
02:02across Northern Ireland, pushing northwards into parts of Scotland, northern parts of England,
02:06and likely falling as snow across Scotland.
02:08Mostly across high ground once again, but we could see some flurries to lower levels.
02:13But it's really the winds that are going to be strengthening in through the afternoon,
02:17particularly across the west, all through into the Irish Sea, we'll start to see winds pick
02:21up.
02:21But actually across much of England and Wales, even though it will be quite windy towards the
02:25afternoon, still feeling quite warm where we do see any bright or sunny spells.
02:30Highs reaching around 16 to 17 degrees.
02:33But it's later Saturday that we will really see those winds strengthen.
02:37A chance we could see severe gales quite widely across the north.
02:40We could see gusts between 60 to 90 miles per hour.
02:45And as it's the bank holiday weekend, it's certainly a chance that this could cause some
02:49impact.
02:49So do keep an eye out across warnings on our website and our social media channels to see
02:54if they could impact you.
02:56So multiple warnings in force, mostly for wind, but also some rain and snow warnings
03:00across northwest Scotland.
03:02So like I say, these are being updated through the course of the weekend.
03:06So do keep an eye out for those updates across social media channels and also on our website.
03:11But actually for Easter Sunday, although quite a windy start, Storm Dave actually clears
03:16away through into the North Sea.
03:18And for many of us, it should be fairly bright.
03:20There will be some sunny spells, but also plenty of showers feeding in from the west.
03:24So if it does start to rain and you're out for an Easter egg hunt,
03:27don't forget to just wait around because a sunny spell should soon be following on behind.
03:32Still quite a breeze out there and some of these showers still a little bit wintry
03:35across Scotland.
03:37Still once again, mostly across the high ground.
03:39And it's not going to be feeling quite as warm as it has done through today and into tomorrow.
03:43Highs reaching around 12 to 13 degrees Celsius.
03:47But there should still be lots of pleasant weather out there.
03:49Lots of bright sunny spells, but do keep an eye out for showers.
03:52And of course, for more of your weather updates through the bank holiday weekend,
03:56don't forget you can join us here on YouTube.
03:58Bye-bye.
