10 October - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good afternoon. The weather is fairly repetitive over the coming days but
00:05the good news is it should be mostly dry. We'll even see some autumnal sunshine at times
00:09and it's all thanks to high pressure. At first sitting to the west, slowly edging its way
00:13eastwards towards the weekend, becoming centred over the UK, bringing those dry settled conditions
00:18but at times across parts of Scotland, just on the northern flank of that high, it could
00:22turn fairly breezy into this afternoon. More cloud here, perhaps thick enough to produce
00:26some drizzle, similar across Northern Ireland. The best of the sunshine is going to be across
00:31eastern areas of Scotland. Eastern areas of England, too, should see some breaks in the
00:35cloud and by the afternoon there will be some bright spells at times, remaining mostly dry
00:40across the country and fairly similar temperatures to what we saw yesterday afternoon. Highs of
00:4417, possibly 18 degrees Celsius. Even eastern Scotland we could see around 18 degrees Celsius,
00:49so feeling warm in the sunshine. But where we see those clearer skies through the overnight period,
00:55that is where it's going to be turning chilly. So eastern areas of Scotland,
00:59parts of England and Wales will see prolonged clear skies. So a chance we could just dip below
01:03freezing in these areas, possibly even seeing some mist and fog patches develop by the time we reach
01:08the morning. A slightly different story across western Scotland. Thicker areas of clouds starting
01:13to push through here. These could be thick enough to produce some drizzle during the early hours of
01:17Saturday. So we see the clouds stick around. Temperatures will be around the high single figures.
01:22Elsewhere, towns and cities under the clear skies could be the mid to low single figures,
01:26but rural spots where we see those clear skies, a good chance we could dip below freezing,
01:31possibly even seeing some frost. Nevertheless, it's going to be a chilly start to the weekend. Any
01:37mist or fog will clear steadily through the course of the morning. Some cloud may linger. Across the
01:42south, for example, we could see fairly grey skies. But western Scotland is where we're going to see the
01:47bulk of the cloud and some quite persistent outbreaks of drizzle at times too. So not quite
01:52such a nice start to the weekend here. But elsewhere, we'll probably see more sunshine than
01:56what we'll see this afternoon. So a mix of sunny spells, some cloud, particularly across the south,
02:01and fairly similar temperatures once again. Highs reaching around 18 degrees Celsius,
02:05so that return of the autumnal sunshine as we head through into Saturday. Once again,
02:11the weather is on a bit of a rinse and repeat. We'll see a mix of cloud and clear skies
02:15through the course of the evening. So turning chilly once again. The difference as we head
02:19through into Sunday is we'll see a few more of those clearer skies. So a higher risk that we could
02:23see some fog during the early hours of Sunday. But of course, don't forget for your day-to-day
