00:00we've got one series in the books for your my our texas rangers they are two and one in first
00:08place
00:08of the al west so it's time for your complete and total overreactions positive or negative
00:16to the rangers first series of the season and if it is okay with you i would like to play
00:24cut
00:24number one to start off with this positive overreaction made five of his eight starts for
00:32the year and did really well in those start three two that's in there for a called third strike
00:37well-placed slider will take care of marsh for the final out jacob latz could turn out to be this
00:44team's mvp is my first positive overreaction and that is one of the things that we asked him in
00:51spring training it feels wrong to say but could his versatility like in an odd way kind of work
00:59against him and i think when they talked a whole lot about roster building it kind of did work
01:04against him just a little bit because they were like well we can just slide him in and have him
01:09be the do everything bullpen guy yeah he rocker's not going to do that he has that ability yeah you're
01:16right but if you're jacob latz i know you want to start but aren't you glad you're on this big
01:26league
01:26roster yeah yeah the per diem for one like that's that's that's a lot dude i don't know how much
01:35they
01:36care about that but she might be right i want you to start asking more players i think they make
01:40in
01:40the per diem i think they make more than we did a year i could see um but like that's
01:46that's i'm dead
01:47serious that's part of it going to the minor leagues not the most fun thing either but you're also secure
01:52on this roster that's uh that's more fun that's something that you're looking forward to i i like
01:59the pitcher i like his flexibility you love to have a guy that's just like he finds out two hours
02:04before
02:05the game that he he needs to pitch and he goes yeah uh he has he does well yeah and
02:09he has that
02:10kind of mentality too we talk in our discussion with him that mentality is just i have to be ready
02:16i have to be ready to attack whenever given that opportunity and uh and i really like that a lot
02:23my overreaction kevin is i'm a little concerned
02:26mm-hmm according to one jared sandler mm-hmm oh you you know a fan no i i'm saying i
02:35was whole
02:35no no he did not say anything to me negative yesterday no i i i was hoping when you said
02:41concerned it would be the like this wild theory but when you said jared i'm like oh no that's somebody
02:46who definitely knows what's happening the rangers made just three abs challenges against philadelphia
02:53mm-hmm only the rockies challenged lest okay well we're better than them they challenged two times
03:02mm-hmm mother getting dusted by florida or miami so and we only did three and the rockies are that
03:09bad
03:09do you think we're gonna be that bad too because we don't know what the strike zone is i just
03:13think
03:13our umpires were that good oh there you go i like the way kevin's think gacky kevin yeah
03:19because the umpires were there to make sure okay all right there we go those are good umpires not cb
03:24buckner good man six in one game including two in a row um mackenzie gore dude my overreaction is
03:31mackenzie gore might be our ace yeah i i really enjoyed watching the way he pitched uh out there
03:38uh giving up two earned runs this is a good outing this is a very good after five when he
03:43had a no
03:44hitter yeah get the team no no you would never he was already he was already 90 you gotta put
03:51him
03:51back he's already a bunch of pitches though dude um you're right yeah keep him out there as much as
03:56you can but really good quality outing from him only giving up two hits i like this on the day
04:03from
04:03him not surprising from the 817 another 817 the 214 and yet another different 817 161 and 1 here we
04:18come that is their positive overreaction though i love this the early season stats for baseball are so
04:24fun and ridiculous from the 214 jake berger is on pace to hit 108 home runs and i think he'll
04:30do it
04:30he's also on pace to have 216 rbis that's it yeah that's right you know what's crazy that's only 26
04:40ahead of the all-time record like at a time when you're like 216 is a preposterous number i'm pretty
04:47sure hack wilson's number it's 190 um so over the weekend kevin regarding jake berger i tweeted to sean
04:57and i was like do you feel any better and one of the tolos out there i was like look
05:01he often has
05:02bad takes and i was like whoa hold on this wasn't a bad take on sean's part he had just
05:07mentioned
05:07that because of cory he was getting ready to make a play on on jake berger he's like i i'm
05:15fighting
05:15myself on this should i do it but cory's got me hyped up about him and i would like to
05:20be at the
05:21front of the line saying cory knows ball when it comes to baseball uh looking at what uh jake berger
05:27is doing we saw it and i and we discussed the headspace and i think that's a big factor in
05:33the
05:34way that he's performing at the plate right now from the 903 i like that a lot of these overreactions
05:39are positive i have a couple negatives oh no it's only fair overreaction from the 903 the rangers are
05:45definitely al west champions and could possibly make another world series run from the 214 the
05:52young guys are scaring me langford josh and carter now we talked about josh young earlier but
06:00yeah that's that's one of my potentially negative overreactions is evan carter is going to come off
06:09the bench a lot this season and i don't think i don't think he is the player you can do
06:17that with
06:18what do you mean i don't think he has the mentality for it ah i think like and that being
06:26said maybe not
06:26you obviously want your starters to have a tough enough mentality to do whatever yeah but i think
06:31he's the kind of guy that gets into his own head a little bit and he'll start making excuses for
06:36well i need more bats to be able to get into a groove and things like that and you're like
06:40you
06:40take advantage of what you get you'll get more after you earn them and kevin over the weekend
06:47one for six
06:51yeah and small sample size but no no you're right but i guess my thought walks i guess my thought
06:56about
06:57that is and that's a big deal but my thought about it is does it feel like he needs to
07:01come out like
07:02blazing hot to get the playing time that he wants that we all kind of want him to have because
07:10i don't
07:10you don't have those concerns with like wyatt or seager or nemo or whoever like they're gonna get
07:15their shots but with somebody like evan it does feel like you have to have pretty gaudy numbers
07:21to be like all right well we can't not put you in yeah no absolutely the whole can't hit lefties
07:27thing
07:28keeps you from getting the opportunities you need and want and you can't prove that you can hit lefties
07:33unless they put you out there against it and then whenever you do it you have to you have to
07:37punish
07:37them yeah and so that's but that's got to be kevin that's got to be the mentality of the hitter
07:41is i'm going up there to prove to the world i can do these things i just don't know that
07:48he is in that
07:49headspace quite yet it is remarkable that two different people texted in a variation of this
07:54the 817 i'm gonna go 160 and 2 because i'm not gonna overreact and then from the 972 we're going
08:01160 and 2 i think we're gonna have another blog game after the all-star break i love that specificity
08:08i like this from the 972 i know it's way off script today but eric nadal chose absolute violence this
08:15past weekend and completely trashed the philly cheesesteak on multiple broadcasts and during an
08:21interview on nbc5 eric does not care what people think oh he is a hall of famer you're damn right
08:30winner yeah man because wouldn't you say that you don't get to the hall of fame by playing cautious
08:35oh like wouldn't that be what he would say yes that's a good ass point i don't know if either
08:40one
08:40of these negatives are like really overreactions jock peterson coming off the bench reinforces what a
08:48horrendous contract that was it was yeah and it's early but you're already kind of seeing it was kind
08:53of a desperate grab at the time with a lot of high-risk gamble and the result so far
09:02nothing but the low-risk gamble andrew mccutcheon is the opposite of jock peterson and most of their
09:11bullpen mccutcheon who kevin i don't know if you know or not in the eighth grade he won a high
09:17school
09:18batting title we did hear that uh my friend tim kirkjan told me that the other day it was on
09:22an
09:22opening day and then cory suggested we open an investigation to look into that yeah i do i still
09:28think it um but this dude like just shows up late in camp hits well because that's what he's always
09:36been able to do is hit his entire career he's been a really good hitter his whole career and right
09:42now
09:42hitting 444 he's the only one with two doubles on the team and dude when i watch him swing the
09:49bat
09:49the bat speed his hands are still so fast uh i love the swing and i love what he puts
09:55into this team
09:56and i just hope this keeps up all season again like i said we talk about jock and then you
10:01look
10:01at andrew mccutcheon it's the work on either side it's the it's the the things that he gives to the
10:06team
10:07the play the kind of work ethic that he has that's the reason right now and then once again i
10:12don't
10:12necessarily think this is an overreaction while we're doing complete and total overreactions to
10:16the first series of the season the lack of a closer is going to crush this team's momentum and maybe
10:22their season again at some point probably multiple points i think you're going to see maybe five or six
10:28times it could be where you're rolling along and a game that was in your grasp to win will be
10:34lost
10:35and it feels like it will really derail the momentum yeah collapse inning can happen like
10:41any time yeah uh with this bullpen because you just don't have the confidence in it yet now
10:46that skips job that's that's teague's job they have to work on getting these guys to believe in
10:52themselves to a point where they they understand like you know what i am good at this and i do
10:58shut
10:58down innings but i do have a feeling that might happen from the 979 i am relieved are y'all
11:03relieved the
11:04rangers after the slow start avoided a one uh the first ever oh and 162 season uh what was y
11:10'all's
11:10concern level after opening day high as low as could possibly be
11:17dude you know how embarrassing that would be to go oh and 162 the orioles in like 88 started oh
11:24and
11:2421 and they still won a bunch of games yeah it was something is something like that they have been
11:30that they they cracked that that's a different deal at least a win we would have got to oh and
11:3410
11:35then we would have started i'll tell you what in the future any major dfw sports team they start oh
11:43and 10 we will start your oh and how many ever number of games they play watch i mean the
11:48cowboys
11:48oh and 17 that would be a bad season look if you get to oh and 10 with the cowboys
11:53that's not a watch
11:54that is a very real possibility that you're closer to than not every single one of those games too they
12:01lose by hail mary touchdown you're just like what the hell yeah well it sounds like they should play
12:05for duke all right go ahead and give me that's right i'm still upset cut number five because one of
12:11my positive overreactions is going to be about this gentleman right here lefty on lefty first pitch
12:17nimmo lifts it high into the air deep right center field crawford going back still going back this one
12:23carries into the bullpen a home run for brandon nimmo his first as a texas ranger it's two nothing
12:30good guys oh in your face phillies so my positive overreaction there is brandon nimmo is indeed the
12:38man for the leadoff spot and will be a bigger upgrade over simian than anticipated now i'll just say
12:44anticipated by me because i thought brandon nimmo was going to be a slight upgrade and remember
12:51we're doing overreactions here so he got that two run home run and through three games he's reached
12:58base five times he's four for 12 with a walk actually i think it might be six times with a
13:06walk
13:06and a hit by pitch and a stolen base and so if nothing else you love the power but you
13:13want your
13:14leadoff hitter obviously obviously to get on base and so early on he's done a really good job of that
13:20so that will be my positive overreaction he'll be a bigger upgrade over simian than i thought
13:26i think the number that i love the most though kevin is 4.50 okay that is the amount of
13:34pitches per
13:34plate appearance that he sees okay and the only person that has more is andrew mccushin at 4.56
13:43the the more you see a pitcher the better it is for you and your teammates uh you go up
13:48there if
13:49you go up there and you have a one you are screwed all right you need to go up there
13:53and have five
13:54actually jock peterson but he's got two at bat so that's kind of a different thing but
13:58when you go up to the plate your goal is to see as much get as much information off a
14:04pitcher as you
14:04can foul balls are information we talked about that with lats it's information for both uh the the
14:10you're also putting an extra pitch on that arm and that might be the one extra pitch that your next
14:17teammate comes up and says oh his arm's a little more fatigued than it should be right bomb and so
14:22like this is the like having a leadoff hitter that's going up there and seeing four and a half
14:27is a very positive thing i love i love what nimmo's doing i told you whenever we got him
14:32like this dude hustles he plays hard you can see it in everything that he does now this one is
14:37really
14:37interesting because this might be rooted in reality as well from the 806 overreaction the rangers are
14:43screwing up by not signing langford to an extension already like pete crowe armstrong signed last week
14:49i believe from everything i think we both understand about the situation i believe that
14:56is more on the langford side than the rangers side oh you think so yeah from everything i have heard
15:04about that and then we can talk about doesn't it make sense for him to just chill on that yes
15:08absolutely because of the hype level so even if he struggles people believe in him so much that i think
15:15he'll at least get some partial benefit of the doubt and then trading for mckenzie gore was a stroke of
15:20genius as long as we're throwing out yes some overreaction
