Should we completely discount the Cowboys from picking an offensive player with one of their two first-round picks in the draft? Bryan Broaddus and the rest of the G-Bag Nation weigh in.
Transcript
00:01Hey, hey, kids! Your old pal Krusty is going to teach you five new words.
00:05You're not wrong about that.
00:07From Dallas, Texas, number 55, Brian Brothers.
00:10Thank you very much, Dylan. Appreciate you playing that for us.
00:13Thank you to Greystone for being a part of this as well.
00:16We were talking about earlier the possibility of looking at offensive players.
00:23Yeah.
00:23And the reason I bring this up and the reason that Votch, and Votch went on a rant about this.
00:28He'd been battling some folks. I mean, battling in a good way.
00:31This time of year, people are like, ah, you watch this defense.
00:35Yeah, I agree with you.
00:36It builds up and you just got to let it out at some point.
00:38It's been awful. The defense is awful and you know you need defensive help.
00:42And you're hopeful that the players they brought in and the new coach will somewhat make it better.
00:48But guys, you guys look at players.
00:51And Dawson, I'm really proud of you. Here we are coming into the last month for this thing.
00:54Had a lot of fun. Thanks for...
00:55No, man, I appreciate you doing it.
00:57Bringing me in.
00:58Yeah, because it's not easy to do, man.
00:59You get home and you go like, I don't want to watch these players.
01:02But you do. You have to.
01:03But I want to ask you the questions, though, is when did we start all of a sudden as we're
01:09doing this?
01:10And we've all been looking at it since January, you know, or myself, I know November.
01:15Zach, I think you were like November as well.
01:17Dawson got in there.
01:18But I wonder when all of a sudden that we were taking players who we had talked about in our
01:25stack, on our board, as potential players you would take at 20 or later.
01:32And now we're elevating them all the way up to we'll take them at 12.
01:37Yeah.
01:37When did we start?
01:39I think that started around the combine with Thienemann.
01:41That's the first recollection of it.
01:43Yeah.
01:43Maybe there was some Keldrick Falk of that early at 12.
01:47Yeah.
01:48I think when we lost Sonny Stiles at 12 and kind of gave up on the Caleb Downs dream, we've
01:53had to find, like, who else is going to go here.
01:56But then what happened is all the edge rushers and the two corners now, we can imagine that they're going
02:03to be gone.
02:04Right.
02:04You know, so now it's like, how do you pivot?
02:08Where do you go to?
02:10And I think what you're setting this up for is saying, instead of reaching and taking your 20 players at
02:1612, why don't you just take an offensive guy?
02:18Yeah.
02:19See, that's what the discussion, and I think, because I've always, when I had my group of guys and gals
02:30with Aisha now, that we've always talked about, listen, guys, don't window dress your board.
02:35Don't, don't, you know, like, whatever you see, that's kind of where you're at with these players.
02:40But don't, I feel like the Cowboys get in the most trouble, Zach, when all of a sudden it's like,
02:48oh, well, they have to take, they have to take an int, and they go ahead.
02:54There was a draft, the CeeDee Lamb draft.
02:56Yep, it was Caleb on chase on.
02:57It was chase on.
02:59And the whole time we're hammering chase on, chase on, and we're hammering maybe Diggs is in this thing, too.
03:07You know, Diggs ended up being a pick in the second round.
03:09But we were, it just, it was on and on and on, and all of a sudden it became the
03:15draft of like, wow, wait, CeeDee Lamb's still there?
03:19Too good to pass up.
03:20I just, I think there's just too many times where, as you look at this, as you look at this,
03:27this board, and you start to say, wow, there's, why am I, why am I taking?
03:34Why am I, and nothing against Amesador, or Howell, or Mason Thomas, thank you very much, Pete Prisco.
03:43You know, why am I, why am I talking about all those guys, when in reality, the whole time, they
03:51were never, ever, ever going to be a consideration for me at 12.
03:56They were never, and, and, and, and I think there's some people that, like, to me, when you start to
04:02maybe talk about Terrell from Clemson, he's inside my window of 14 first-round grades.
04:08So he's a first-round guy.
04:10So if you were to take, Terrell, Vosch and I argue about, he goes, I don't think he's, I think
04:15Terrell from Clemson is, he's not in my top 14.
04:18And I'm like, so you wouldn't take him at 12?
04:20He goes, no, I wouldn't.
04:21I absolutely wouldn't take him at 12.
04:23I wouldn't take him at 12.
04:24But to somebody who has him in that window of the first-round grades, yeah, I'd absolutely jump in there
04:32and do that.
04:33And by the way, if I take a corner at 12, who are you sitting?
04:40Rebel.
04:41You're sitting Rebel.
04:42You've made that determination already.
04:44Yeah.
04:45Gotta compete, man.
04:46Yeah.
04:46Gotta earn that thing.
04:47I think you go out there and you earn it.
04:48I mean, I think there's so many questions right now about how healthy is Derron Bland going to be.
04:53See, that's where I'm looking at this, guys.
04:55I'm more worried about Bland's health than I am.
04:58And I get it.
04:59Rebel wasn't good last year.
05:01And I'm not sitting there leading the charge.
05:02I was a guy that, I just feel like that he is going to be this spring, working, getting better,
05:10not having to worry about a knee brace, rehabbing, all those things.
05:13I think you're going to see a better player.
05:15I'll be glad to admit if I'm wrong.
05:16I always do.
05:18I worry more about Bland.
05:20Yeah.
05:21I mean, with the foot stuff, that's the second time you've had a foot surgery.
05:24I don't think he was a very confident player at all.
05:28So to me, but that's if you take corner, that's, you know, you gotta think about, well, who's not in,
05:36that's fair.
05:37Bland and Chief, you said it.
05:39You know, you're right.
05:40I mean, that would be a consideration, but I just think, I mean, Bland has a longer history of being
05:47a good player.
05:48And the big thing with him, though, is that typically that players go through this foot injury situation.
05:55They come out of it on the other side, 100%.
05:59It's an injury that's a pain in the ass and it's annoying and it comes back and you think you're
06:03through the woods and then you got to go back for another surgery and miss another six months.
06:07Like it sucks.
06:07But once you're on the other side of it, you're good, you know, it's just, it's a bone healing and
06:13that's different than a ligament or cartilage regrowing or, you know, getting back into your system for the integrity of
06:22a joint or something like that's super complicated.
06:24This is just a bone healing.
06:25So, but yeah, you know, and then with, with Kobe Durant, I think you're confident he's a starting level player.
06:32It's just, it's not, it's not losing confidence in Revel, it's, it's just saying maybe you're not ready to help
06:37us right now, but he's going to be a good player.
06:40I just wonder, you know, if that's, because I know that everybody's looking at Revel because you're right, he's the
06:45one that hasn't proven it.
06:46He hasn't proven it yet, but I, I would keep an eye on this.
06:50Yeah, I mean, I think there's concern with both and that's why you got to look at, and I think
06:53this is a draft to take a corner in the first round because I just think it's, it's a really
06:57good draft for corners.
06:58Yeah, I think it's a good draft for corners as well, but see, the thing that I'm worried about is
07:03that, that the Dallas Cowboys, if you start eliminating, and I, I think, I think McCoy is going to work
07:11out really well.
07:12I think he's going to run just as fast as Delane, and I think there's people that are going to
07:17say, wow, you know what?
07:18And you could be right, Dawson, because you said earlier, there's going to be a minefield that you're going to
07:22have to walk for 30 minutes in this draft.
07:25Yeah.
07:25The minefield starts in Kansas City, it takes you through Cincinnati, and it, and it finishes you up with the,
07:34with the Miami Dolphins.
07:35Miami Dolphins at 11, yep.
07:36Yeah, it finishes you up with the Miami Dolphins.
07:37And the prayer is, maybe KC takes a wide receiver.
07:40I mean, that's, that's my only hope, but they need corners, they need defensive linemen.
07:44Yeah, Cincinnati is historically just as bad as you were on, you know, and so to me, and I believe
07:50their love of LSU players,
07:51it goes back to Andrew Whitworth, you know, they've always seemed to have liked the LSU type player.
07:57Yeah, check out Love of the Star, we recorded one earlier today.
07:59Yeah, we did.
08:00We had some conversations about that.
08:02Absolutely.
08:03But to me, if I'm Dallas, and I'm worried about defensive players, I'm thinking about going up, boys.
08:11Because if I, if I don't go up.
08:14There we go.
08:14If I don't go up, I might be left taking, or having to look at a, look at a, okay,
08:20would you rather Dallas take an offensive player,
08:23or reach for somebody they got a second round grade of?
08:25No, I'd rather trade up.
08:27Be aggressive.
08:28Go get your guy.
08:29Whether it's six to Cleveland, and we've talked about that, whether it's eight to New Orleans,
08:32to try and jump that minefield of those three, go get your guy.
08:36I love going to six.
08:37Do you guys agree, though, that the three teams I named, though, are all potential defensive?
08:42No question.
08:42Just knock, just knock you out right there.
08:44New Orleans could end up being one of those teams, too.
08:47I mean, we just assume offensive-minded head coach, they're going to take an offensive player.
08:50They kept taking love.
08:51Every time you look at a mock draft, it's love, love, love, love, love, love, you know, that kind of
08:55thing.
08:55Yeah, there's just not a lot of good offensive players that demand they be taken in the top ten.
09:01But let me ask you this, though, and you're right about that, but when you get it 12,
09:07is there going to be an offensive player that you like?
09:10Absolutely, considering your state of tackle.
09:13Better than maybe where you have another guy grading.
09:16If either of those tackles are there, Malanoa or Fano, they're probably going to be better.
09:21And Makai Lemon from USC, 100% for me.
09:24He's my top wide receiver.
09:26Rams are going to take Lemon at 13.
09:28I can see it.
09:29He's Pook and Nakua.
09:29Yeah.
09:30I do wonder how the Cowboys look at Terrell, because if they have a grade on him, like you do,
09:35where he's one of the top 15 players, it's kind of a null and void deal.
09:39But I've just seen him slide so much in media evaluations over the last couple of months
09:44that I thought he'd be more consideration at 20.
09:46The guy we're not talking about at all is Cissé from South Carolina.
09:49Yeah, he has totally fallen in this process.
09:52I don't know if there's something that...
09:53I wouldn't worry about him being 20 years old, maturity, stuff like that.
09:57Maybe.
09:57But anyway.
09:58But yeah, listen, I am...
10:01The argument that, say, that Vauch Lombardi and I had today...
10:04Not argument, discussion that we had today on Crown Global Media was that...
10:09Listen, don't sit there and reach for somebody when you've got an offensive player maybe graded
10:16better.
10:16Yeah.
10:17Look at that offensive player, because this is where Dallas gets in trouble.
10:20Yeah.
10:21Don't window-dress your board.
10:22Okay, real quick, though, on our guy that we just signed.
10:26I want to go back and just real quick on the college.
10:29And, Wulchuk, what do you remember about the guy?
10:31Just Kendrick.
10:32Did you remember anything about him?
10:34Yeah, I mean, he was a guy that went Clemson to Georgia, and he won a couple of national
10:38championships.
10:38Was there anything else you remembered about him?
10:40Just inconsistent.
10:41He gave up a lot of plays.
10:42Okay, that's the thing about it is, when he was locked in, he was really good.
10:46When he was not locked in, he was a very ordinary player.
10:52So now, again, that's the thing coming out, and he ran a 4.78 at the Combine.
10:56That was something I think kind of hurt him.
10:58Yikes.
10:59But when this guy was locked in, you did see a guy that was natural and smooth and didn't
11:05appear bothered when he played.
11:08The movement, I think all that stuff's good.
11:10Drive on the ball, those are things you like.
11:13And he's playing some big-time games.
11:15Dawson, you mentioned he's a two-time national champ.
11:17But there might be some freelance.
11:19There was some freelance to his game there at Georgia, and that kind of bothered me.
11:24But, man, he, when locked in, good, when floating and kind of just, you're not sure if he was
11:31really, really locked in.
11:33Maybe he's got through all that.
11:34Was he freelancing, or was he just toast?
11:3730 yards behind the play.
11:39I tell you what, there were times, Dawson, where he was just floating in coverage.
11:42You're like, what's he doing?
11:44That's hilarious.
11:44Ran a 4.78.
11:45But congrats.
11:47He's made it in the NFL for five years.
11:49Yep.
11:50Yep.
11:50Well, we'll see.
11:51Hopefully those things, like I said, I'm going to go back and look and see.
11:54But I just know college coming out, those are the questions I had about him, of how locked
12:00in he really was as a player.
