The K&C Masterpiece opened Baseball Nuggets and explored which statistical milestones could fall this season, from Aaron Judge chasing 400 home runs to Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander climbing the all-time strikeout list and more.

00:01So, some cool milestones that I want you guys to be on the lookout for this season.
00:07Let's start with Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge has 368 career home runs.
00:14He reached 300 home runs in 955 games, the fewest in MLB history.
00:19If he can get 32 home runs in the next year and a half, which that feels doable,
00:25since he had 37 in just 106 games three years ago,
00:30then he will have the fewest amount of games to ever reach, 400 home runs.
00:36The previous record held by Mark McGuire, followed by Babe Ruth, Alex Rodriguez,
00:42Giancarlo Stanton, and Albert Pujols as the top five.
00:47But it looks like Aaron Judge this season is set to shatter that record.
00:51Now, I understand what you're looking at here is the window of efficiency.
00:56Correct.
00:57There's no way that any of those guys did it at like 35 years old.
01:0234 years old.
01:03Is he 33?
01:04He'll be 34 at that point.
01:06Yeah.
01:06Aaron Judge definitely got a later start.
01:09The window of efficiency is amazing.
01:11Hopefully he's a cleaner player.
01:13What do you mean?
01:14I mean...
01:15What did those guys ever do that they were convicted of?
01:17Two of the top three were definitely...
01:21They sat before Congress, Kevin.
01:24Did A-Rod?
01:25I don't remember.
01:26Okay.
01:27Most of them.
01:28I mean, we know he cheated.
01:29He's very open about that.
01:31And remember, Rafael Palmeiro pointed his...
01:34Yeah, and then we found out that was wrong.
01:37It's Congress pointing fingers.
01:39Yeah.
01:39And we found out it was wrong.
01:41What do you choose to believe, though?
01:42I choose to believe that he was lying.
01:45And we've had him on the show, and I think he's wonderful talking to.
01:50But that feels like that was a lie.
01:52Did you enjoy that baseball?
01:53Yeah.
01:54There you go.
01:55Thanks, Jerry.
01:56All right.
01:56Did you enjoy those wins?
01:58Let's go to Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.
02:02Max Scherzer is currently 11th all-time in strikeouts with 3,489.
02:09That puts him 26 away from Walter Johnson, so it looks like he is in position to move into the
02:16top 10.
02:17Justin Verlander is already No. 8 with 3,553 strikeouts.
02:23If he can get 150 more, he will surpass Burt Blylevin and move into the top 5 all-time.
02:32And if he moves into top 5, then he'll only be 2,000 behind Nolan Ryan.
02:38That's a real number, by the way.
02:40He could be 5th all-time and be 2,000 behind Nolan Ryan.
02:46That's the most unbreakable record in sports.
02:48You said Scherzer needs 150 more?
02:50Correct.
02:52Verlander.
02:52Oh, Verlander.
02:53Scherzer only needs like 35 to move into the top 10.
02:56Oh, actually, that's really good for him.
02:58Yeah.
02:58Because in the last three years, 121.
03:04That's good numbers.
03:06Two years ago, 40.
03:08Last year, 82.
03:09So still good numbers.
03:11Yeah.
03:11For a dude that's not really pitching a hole as much as he used to.
03:15So he can move into the top 10.
03:17That dude was pitching 30 games a year in one stretch, and now he's lucky if he gets 17.
03:21Yes.
03:22But he still gets paid.
03:23Good for him.
03:24Now, Jacob deGrom, he has 1,851 career strikeouts in 1,539 innings.
03:33How many is that behind Nolan?
03:354,000.
03:36Okay.
03:37And you're like, that's not true.
03:39You're right, but not by that much.
03:41It's like 3,800 and something.
03:43Dang.
03:4463?
03:45Anyways, I think.
03:47You have to finish the math.
03:48I do.
03:48That's another thing.
03:49We were talking about the OCD.
03:51I have to know the answer.
03:52I just do.
03:53You have to show your work.
03:54Yes.
03:54Well, I always got in trouble for that, because I was like, I did it in my head, and the
03:57teacher
03:57was like, no, you didn't.
03:58And I was like, I did.
04:00So among pitchers who have at least 50% of their appearances as starts, Jacob deGrom has
04:06an opportunity to be the fastest pitcher ever to 2,000 strikeouts.
04:12Currently, it's Chris Sale who got there just an inning faster than you, Darvish.
04:19And I want you to know that on the MLB.com website, there is an error, because it says
04:25you, Darvish, got there in 1,697 and a half innings.
04:30As we all know, no such thing for individual pitching stat lines as a half inning.
04:38MLB, though, says it.
04:39Man.
04:40It was interesting.
04:41I really wish I wouldn't have brought that up now, because Corey will tell me about the
04:44half inning all of the time, and I'm like, stop it.
04:48All right.
04:48Pete Crowe Armstrong.
04:49We told you yesterday.
04:51DeGrom, though, still, like you said, like with Judge, efficient.
04:54Yes.
04:54In the time that he's out there, it's just that he's just not out there a lot.
04:58And his is a little different.
04:59It feels like Aaron Judge got a later start to make a run at that record, whereas DeGrom,
05:04injuries.
05:05All right.
05:05Start and go.
05:06Pete Crowe Armstrong.
05:08He got paid a whole lot of money yesterday.
05:10He agreed on a six-year, $115 million contract extension that starts in 2027 and buys out two
05:20years of his free agency.
05:22It also has escalator clauses that could bring it up to $133 million.
05:27What's interesting about this is he is one of the younger, highest-paid players that do
05:34not have a club option on his contract.
05:37Usually when you see these, it's like, hey, you got another club option or two, so if you're
05:41still good, we can keep you.
05:43This one does not, which means Pete Crowe Armstrong would be a free agent again at the
05:49age of 30 going into his 31 season.
05:52Yeah.
05:53As a player, isn't that what you want?
05:54Yes.
05:55You want as many of those options.
05:56Yes.
05:57We're talking about with the NFL right now.
05:59Maybe the five-year deal isn't what you want, especially with the way the number keeps
06:03going up.
06:03Oh, my gosh.
06:04I so agree with that.
06:04Maybe you do want a two-year deal.
06:06Absolutely.
06:06And be like, I'll take in the next amount of money that they're offering me as soon as
06:10I possibly can.
06:11And that's good for Pete Crowe Armstrong.
06:12Yeah, I mean, I'm sure it'd be great if you got $300 or $400 million, but knowing you have
06:15$100 plus million and you can be a free agent again before you turn 31, that's a pretty
06:21sweet deal.
06:22I know you say escalator clause because it goes up if things, but it's also kind of you're
06:26a little cautious about getting on it, you know, because what happens if I don't go up?
06:31Oh, man.
06:31Or if I get stuck?
06:32You know, I learned on the trip to Florida that Noah, especially with his cast on, did not
06:39care for the escalator.
06:41Really?
06:41Yeah, because he was...
06:43Avery was like that, too?
06:44He was very concerned.
06:46Interesting.
06:46I don't understand why.
06:48Yeah, it's because of mall rats.
06:49You're afraid you're going to get sucked in there.
06:50No one's not seen mall rats.
06:52Okay, fine.
06:53Then it's just logic.
06:54You're afraid that your shoelace is going to be loose, it's going to get sucked over there,
06:59and then your skin is going to pop out of the escalator, and the rest of your body
07:03has been sucked into wherever that goes.
07:06Where does it go?
07:07I don't know.
07:08Underneath the escalator.
07:09Nobody knows, because the only way you knew is if that happened to you, and then you're
07:12dead.
07:13What age do you show mall rats to Noah?
07:16I feel like we got a ways to go.
07:18I remember I showed Idiocracy to Brandon too early, because I didn't realize at the very
07:23beginning, they were like, F yeah, and I go, oh no, this is too early for this movie.
07:29You can't take it back at that point.
07:30I couldn't.
07:31We're the KNC Masterpiece right here on 105.3 The Fan.
