00:00Alright, I want to start with this, and this is something that Jalen Thompson had said the other day, and
00:07I want to believe that, and I appreciate that we got a new coordinator and everything like that, but he
00:11said, I feel like we got all of the right pieces, and Christian Parker puts the players in the right
00:17places.
00:19Are you confident in the level of current Cowboys defensive pieces, or do you think it's going to take until
00:27the draft?
00:28I'm not completely confident yet, but I appreciate him saying that. He's, you know, he's, oh man, he's going to
00:38find out, huh?
00:39What do you mean?
00:40What it's like to be a Cowboy.
00:42Yeah.
00:43But I don't think it's there yet, but you know, if they went into the season, he would probably say
00:51the same thing. If they were still just like this team, he would go, no, we have the pieces, we're
00:56going to get it all put together.
00:58But, again, add a little more talent to this thing. As Jerry said, play a lick of defense. It didn't
01:06look like they could last year for extended periods of time.
01:10And so if you can do that, if you can't have more talent, then I'll believe that.
01:15Now the Cowboys did re-up with Corey Ballantyne on a one-year deal. Last year he played five games,
01:2247 snaps on special teams, 23 snaps on defense. Let's go to Travis Kelsey and the magic of the salary
01:31cap.
01:32Because when I first saw this story, I was like, wait, what?
01:35Yeah, I thought he was going to retire this year. Now he's got three years.
01:37And that is not going to happen because of the way they structured it. But that is the genius of
01:43the salary cap.
01:44Travis Kelsey signed a three-year, $54.7 million deal. And I was like, holy moly, here is the catch.
01:54$40 million of that deal is fully guaranteed if Kelsey is still on the Chiefs roster in June of 2027.
02:01So it feels safe to say that either A, if he decides to keep playing, they would restructure that, or
02:08B, they feel confident that he is going to play the one more year and leave it at that.
02:14Okay, and so why this?
02:16Because if you make it a three-year deal, it kind of takes the place of the void years right
02:21there and you can stretch out some of the signing bonus or guaranteed money.
02:26Yeah, but essentially it looks like it boils down to a one-year $12 million deal with $3 million in
02:31incentives possible.
02:33So you can kind of think of it as more in the range of $15 million.
02:38But yeah, that's the same thing I thought when I first saw it. I was like, what the crap? He's
02:42going to play for three more years?
02:44I would love to really get inside the mind of a person who has a billionaire fiancé and be like,
02:53what are you doing?
02:55Right. Are you playing because you just love the game?
02:58Because he said, you know, she's really good in her industry, I'm really good in my industry, because of her
03:04I want to work harder.
03:06He said all these things.
03:07But is it because you just, you don't want to be away from it?
03:11You don't know what to do after your football career is done?
03:14Or you're like, I need that extra $12, $15 million?
03:17Do you think there's any part of it, too, that is just as simple as, they have been so great,
03:23and he can't envision, either individually or team-wise, that being his last season?
03:28Yeah.
03:29What just happened?
03:29Probably so.
03:31Probably, like, that's definitely, I think that could be a factor for sure.
03:35Now, my question is, is he prepared to go out there and block for Justin Fields?
03:42Right.
03:43Because Justin Fields probably is going to be like, oh, crap, I don't know how to throw.
03:47Man, there are a lot of people, you know what I've started to see?
03:50I've fought for Justin Fields for a long time, and I can't anymore.
03:53I've seen the stat comparisons at the beginning of his career and Sam Darnold's career, with the insinuation then being
03:59that a lot of people believe Justin Fields is the next one who's going to kind of resurrect his career.
04:05I'll tell you this, if anybody can do it, I think it's Andy Reid.
04:09Sure.
04:09I never thought in Chicago he had a fair shake there.
04:14I never thought with the Jets he was in the right place.
04:18And the Steelers, I was like, okay, maybe, but they didn't use him correctly.
04:24We keep hearing about how Cooper Cupp's extension should be happening imminently.
04:32What?
04:33Not Cooper Cupp.
04:37Puka Nakua.
04:38Oh, Puka Nakua.
04:38I was like, the Cooper Cupp extension is important.
04:41Not Cooper Cupp.
04:42The Rams would be really astonished by that.
04:44But the Puka Nakua deal, what is that going to look like?
04:48A billion dollars.
04:49Okay, so does he get to be the next top paid guy?
04:54Because clearly he can put up incredible numbers, but also there is concern about injuries, no?
04:59Yeah, no, there is because of the way he plays, though.
05:02Like, he plays violently.
05:04Sure, sure, sure, sure.
05:04He makes violent catches.
05:06He puts his body on the line.
05:07That's part of my sell, is do you want me to make these catches for you?
05:11Every once in a while I might get hurt.
05:13Yeah.
05:13And that's going to, but he is tough and he gets back out there.
05:16He tries to get back out there.
05:19He's very popular.
05:21His numbers, dude, are eye-popping.
05:23They are.
05:24So, and that's part of the offense, too.
05:26Like, just look at Cooper Cupp's, you know, career.
05:29It's part of the offense that's built in, but now I would presume that it's going to be
05:36a lot more on him, and he's going to want a lot more for that.
05:40And he deserves it.
05:41Jackson Smith and Jigba, four years, 168.6.
05:45Does Puka get more?
05:4642 and a half?
05:49That would be more.
05:50And then Pickens is like, 43, baby.
05:54Or does Pickens go, guys, 41 is good for me.
05:59I mean, probably.
06:00I still think now it's like, okay, I will be the most generous person in the world and
06:05take $5 million less.
06:07Seahawks just screwed everything up.
06:10Man.
06:10And you know what, though, Kevin?
06:12You can do that when you win the Super Bowl.
06:13When we were talking about Florio's market number, we thought he was ridiculous to have the
06:19number that high already.
06:20And the Seahawks were like, oh, we just listened to Florio today.
06:24Yeah, don't worry about it.
06:26We'll be fine.
06:27For the Panthers, their former leading tackler, Christian Roseboom, is staying in the NFC South,
06:35but he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' one-year contract worth $3 million.
06:41Let's go from that to, I realize this is what he's supposed to say, but I still want to get
06:46your opinion on it.
06:47Tua said the best football in his career is still ahead of him.
06:52Again, I acknowledge that it would be weird if he was like, ah, probably done.
06:56But like, do you believe that could possibly be the case?
07:01That Tua's best football is still ahead of him?
07:08No.
07:10You hesitated, though.
07:13I don't think his arm's going to get any stronger.
07:15Not saying that, look, I know people are like, look, it's false about his arm strength.
07:21I watched him play enough to know how quick the release looked and how, you know, I watched
07:26enough of him to understand.
07:29His offense, offensive mind that he was working with was phenomenal.
07:34I still, with Daniels as a head coach, as an offensive coordinator guy, guy calling play
07:39is very good.
07:40And I just don't know how he's going to live up with that or find anybody else like that.
07:47And there is a matter of confidence and swagger that he misses.
07:52He doesn't have.
07:53He doesn't believe in himself.
07:54I think he's saying that as a way to, like, get that out there.
07:58But I don't think he believes in himself either.
08:00Ryan McFadden has a story up today about how everything fell apart with the Max Crosby deal.
08:05Of interest is, he says that the Cowboys gave three different offers to the Raiders.
08:12It started with the No. 20 pick and Osa, which I feel like we've heard that one.
08:18And then pick No. 12 and a third round pick.
08:24And supposedly they eventually moved to pick 12 and a second round pick.
08:29But neither one of those last two offers included Osa.
08:33And the second round pick would have been next year.
08:36Yes, because they do not have a second round pick.
08:38So essentially that, in the Raiders' eyes, could be construed as still a third round pick.
08:43So you could see why they were going to do the deal with the Ravens.
08:46Or I guess they did the deal with the Ravens until it all fell apart.
08:49I don't think those are unreasonable offers by the Cowboys.
08:52Yeah.
08:53But you wouldn't go back to that, right?
08:55Nope.
08:55Okay.
