00:00All righty. Yeah, Cowboys news. Daniel Jeremiah with KNC today saying he believes Caleb Downs more likely going between 11
00:11and 20 than one to 10. That must just be pure positional value. Yeah, that's just crazy because people are
00:18talking about Caleb Downs like he's the best safety they've ever scouted.
00:21Yeah, I mean, he that was I think the main the main point that he was making is just how
00:27how teams can not really value that position. But he also mentioned the fact that, you know, when you talk
00:35about Kyle Hamilton and Derwin James as guys who have slipped, those guys are also, you know, like prototypical like
00:42size with the length and height and all that kind of stuff. And Downs really isn't that he's sub six
00:49foot.
00:49But, you know, he's he's not long with the arms. He doesn't. He was saying, like, when you watch his
00:55tape, it's not like there's a ton of splash plays like there's teams that apparently, according to Jeremiah, have McNeil
01:02Warren, manual McNeil Warren, the safety out of Toledo, who is like a longer six to super, super lengthy, more
01:12athletic looking dude.
01:13So they have him higher on on some teams boards than Downs.
01:19What would you be a reaction, Walchuk, if the Cowboys passed on Caleb Downs? He did fall to 12.
01:24I'd be stunned. They pass. I'd be I'd be fuming. I mean, it depends on who they end up taking.
01:29But to pass on Caleb Downs, I mean, I think that the size thing for a safety is laughable to
01:35knock a guy for that.
01:36Some of the best safeties in the league have been small. Antoine Winfield, Jr., Kirby Joseph's not a big guy.
01:41Like, yeah, you've got your Kyle Hamilton, your Derwin James, your Nick Emanowary.
01:45The size to me does not matter. Tyron Matthew got knocked, didn't go in the first round.
01:49Why? Because he was small. Was he one of the best players during his career as a safety? Yes.
01:53The whole thing, the size thing for safety is absolutely ridiculous.
01:57Yeah, you know, I suppose I would say the Cowboys adding Locke and Thompson to go along with Hooker,
02:04that's a pretty full safety room, isn't it?
02:07Yeah, but Locke's a one-year deal, right?
02:09And Hooker's a free agent after this year.
02:11So, I mean, I mentioned this this morning on the stack, and that'll post, I think, tomorrow.
02:17But I think we get a little too narrow-minded at times if we're drafting for the 2026 Dallas Cowboys,
02:23when in actuality, when you're drafting players, you're drafting for the next four to five years, right?
02:27Yeah.
02:27So there's a lot of positions you could look at and say, like, I'm good right now,
02:30but you might not be good after this year when that player's no longer on your team.
02:35So, to me, if you get a player that, in my opinion, is the best in the draft that falls
02:39to you,
02:39and they were to pass on him, yeah, I'd be incredibly frustrated by that, but maybe they end up being
02:43right.
02:44I just wonder, this guy, his freshman year at Alabama, he started for Nick Saban and led the team in
02:52tackles.
02:52Yep.
02:53As a freshman.
02:54And was the captain of the defense.
02:55Yeah.
02:56I mean, this guy, for being six foot 205, you know, he's not the ideal length and all that,
03:04but you watch him play, and you watch how many plays that he, how many plays he prevents, put it
03:16that way.
03:17You can watch him on tape, and it's like the ball is not going his direction because he's in such
03:22good shape.
03:23Yeah.
03:24You know, it's like...
03:25Yeah.
03:26It's like he is so smart, the way he puts himself, and a quarterback's thinking,
03:32I'm not throwing the ball at two today.
03:34And he's kind of disguised, and he's walking over here.
03:38He's playing down.
03:39He's back.
03:40He's...
03:41There's just so much to his game.
03:44He, like, prevents plays.
03:46Mm-hmm.
03:46Yeah.
03:47Yeah.
03:47Jeremiah said, like, he's number eight on his board, so he has a lot of respect for him,
03:52and just the way he plays, he described him as, like, a force multiplier.
03:56He makes everybody else on your defense better.
03:58He...
03:59He missed...
04:00I think the stat was, in, like, 415 defensive snaps, he'd only missed six tackles.
04:07That's crazy.
04:08Yeah.
04:08I mean, he's just a really good player.
04:10I mean, that's just the kind of player he is, that if you want somebody...
04:14Like, 30 years ago, it was Darren Woodson.
04:16Mm-hmm.
04:17This guy is like Darren Woodson, that type of player.
04:20And the arm length and making plays on the ball, I think, is a factor, but he mitigates
04:25that so well just by being in position.
04:27Like, you need arm length to maybe jump up and knock a ball away as you're fighting to
04:33get back into position.
04:34But it's really incredible, the way that he fights through traffic and finds the guys
04:37who are, you know, setting up screens, his ability to get off blocks, even though he
04:41doesn't have the great arm length.
04:42It's just like, he does all the little things incredible.
04:45When, a couple segments ago, they had the pro day up on the screen, and I was just watching
04:51him at Ohio State.
04:53They had their day today.
04:54Them and Alabama today went off.
04:57And Texas A&M's.
04:58A&M as well, yeah.
04:59A&M's got there.
05:00We'll hear that.
05:01So, but just watching him move, it's just so effortless.
05:06You know, there's just no wasted motion or struggle.
05:10Yeah.
05:10It's pedal, turn, pedal, turn.
05:13The drill they had there on Twitter was great.
05:15Yeah, it's like, it's like they're taking him, they're taking him at an angle to make
05:19him have to turn and burst and all.
05:22And it's just, it's just so easy for him to do.
05:26I, I, I, like I say, I would be, if Dallas were to pass, I would be mad if they
05:31passed
05:31on McCoy, just because I like McCoy a lot.
05:35But I'd be even more mad if they passed on this guy.
05:38I really would.
05:39If Dallas, if he were to get to you, this is, this is one of the top five players in
05:44the
05:44country, regardless of the position.
05:47Well, the story alive once again with Daniel Jeremiah today on Cancy Masterpiece saying
05:52he, he believes he is going to be available there for the Cowboys to consider at 12.
05:5612.
05:57Okay.
05:58Donovan Azaraku looking pretty dang good.
06:01Rehab video posted on his Instagram today.
06:04He's, I mean, he's going full extension sideways with a giant medicine ball and exploding in
06:09a way, I don't know, maybe it's 85 or 90%, but he's doing some kind of lunges.
06:13He really looks good to go.
06:14But the story from Nick Harris continues to be that he's likely to miss your entire offseason
06:20workout program.
06:21And that's fine.
06:22You know, I'm sure the doctors know what's in his best interest, but I I'd be very, very
06:25confident that he's going to be a hundred percent of the start of training camp if that's the
06:28case.
06:29Okay.
06:29Pro day today in college station, as Brian mentioned, looking at the Aggies, I think the
06:34Aggies had the most invites to the combine.
06:36There are a ton of guys to be interested in down there.
06:39I wonder about Casey Concepcion.
06:42If you're interested enough in Omar Cooper Jr. to bring him in on a 30 visit, I think Concepcion
06:47is a receiver that's, you know, considered at least at this point to be going around
06:51that point in the draft.
06:52I love Concepcion's game.
06:54I love the idea of the Cowboys considering another wide receiver to add to this group
07:00and to make this offense even more explosive and unbelievable.
07:04So I like that.
07:05I like the idea of seeing if the Cowboys could get their their tackle if they did did trade
07:09down.
07:10Is it Demetrius Crown over?
07:11Maybe that's a that's a that's a round to probably pick.
07:15I think maybe even day three.
07:17I think he's a traits guy like the tape solid.
07:19But really, he could even be that might be a fourth round player.
07:23OK, now the issue is this is a such a weird offensive.
07:27I hate this offensive line group.
07:29Maybe he ends up getting, you know, propped up.
07:32So he goes day two.
07:33But I've got him as maybe as a fourth round type of player.
07:36You have Le'Veon Moss, the running back, maybe a possible day three big guy.
07:41If you if you lost health, that's health once again.
07:43He's an injured dude.
07:44Yeah, this guy is is when you watch him play, he's got all the explosive traits you want
07:50in the back.
07:51He can make people miss.
07:53Can't stay healthy.
07:54Every time it's it's one step forward, two steps back with this guy.
07:58He could he could flat run.
08:01I mean, in the end, you know, and we know from A&M through the years, they've always had
08:05these running backs that are explosive.
08:07They're finishers.
08:09Catch the ball.
08:10But he is a he is a often hurt guy, and that's set him back a lot his career.
08:15Well, that's unfortunate, but maybe he'll be available late enough for the Cowboys to
08:19add if they if they want to.
08:20You know, I would not have a lot of belief in in Jaden Blue, just hope.
08:24So I'm looking to add to that room and hope hopefully somebody really pops this time.
08:29Linebacker is kind of the story, isn't he?
08:31What do you guys think of Torrey and York?
08:33He's so he's so small.
08:34Five ten is maybe runs in the mid four fives.
08:38Nice and doesn't have long arms and he's only about two hundred and twenty five pounds
08:42or twenty seven.
08:44Yeah, like what kind of a role does he have in the NFL?
08:46I mean, he did.
08:47He is kind of the Ivan Pace Jr.
08:48of this draft for me, and he went undrafted from Cincinnati two years ago as a rookie,
08:53had an outstanding year, started for Minnesota.
08:55But then he had a spot taken this year by the free agent that they went and signed.
09:00So he's super smart.
09:02He's a guy that's been a three year starter at A&M team captain.
09:04Houston, but he is a guy that he doesn't have the speed that you would think of when
09:10you're looking at a smaller guy like that.
09:12There are times where he sees it.
09:14It's just he's always physically able to get to that spot.
09:17And he makes a ton of plays.
09:19He's always around the ball.
09:20I think he's a really good player.
09:22That's another guy I'd consider at one for at one twelve, one fourteen, whatever that
09:25fourth round pick is.
09:26But yeah, there's other linebackers I think I'd take.
09:30I think for him being the 5'10 and the 227, you would expect a lot quicker player.
09:35Agreed.
09:36And I think that where he makes up for it is there is awareness and there's anticipation.
09:41And I think those are the things that are probably his calling card.
09:44He just doesn't play with a burst.
09:46No.
09:46And you'll see him sometimes the ball get to the edge and he'll be slow getting there.
09:52But I do see when the ball is at him, I think for a smaller guy, he does a pretty
10:01good job
10:01of hanging in there.
10:02But I was expecting more explosiveness from him as a player because of his size.
10:08There's another linebacker down there, Scooby Williams.
10:12Always love a player named Scooby.
10:14More known for his coverage.
10:16I guess he's struggled to finish plays and get off blocks.
10:20But maybe there will be some news on him a little bit later on.
10:25Cowboys did have dinner with Anthony Hill Jr. last night.
10:27Linebacker from Texas.
10:29Maybe the top story coming out of the UT Pro Day.
10:32You do have – is Tech already done?
10:36Tech tomorrow.
10:37Yeah.
10:38Oh, Texas Tech.
10:39Yes, tomorrow.
10:40Clarence Hill says, this is not over.
10:44Talking about Max Crosby says he believes this will be revisited ahead of the trade deadline.
10:50That's a story we talked a little bit about yesterday.
10:53And I think it just makes sense.
10:55Chill is dialed in.
10:56You know, he was the first to talk about N'Kobe Dean at the Combine.
10:59And the cool thing is that the Cowboys have showed multiple times they can be two games under 500
11:05to make a trade at the deadline.
11:06So it's not like the Cowboys even got to be good.
11:09They can look at making trades at that deadline as their last chance to save something that's not going the
11:16right way.
11:17So one way or another, I expect that to be a fun storyline throughout the summer and into next year.
