00:21report
00:22back to you guys and i hope i made you proud if you don't know the format we're going to
00:26be
00:26running through some facts lore and interesting tidbits on the resident evil series and as we
00:30make our way down to the depth of this iceberg the entries are going to get more and more niche
00:35if i missed anything or more likely made a mistake let me know in the comments below grab your scuba
00:40suits we're going under before we continue we publish content all week long so be sure to
00:45subscribe and ring the bell to get notified of our latest videos level one 1.5
00:591.5 refers to the scrapped early version of resident evil 2 that capcom nearly finished
01:04before cancelling development this prototype featured different characters locations and
01:08story elements leon kennedy still appeared but instead of claire redfield the second protagonist
01:13was a character named elza walker the police station also looked drastically different capcom
01:18reportedly scrapped the game when it was about 60 to 70 percent complete because the team felt the
01:23gameplay just wasn't fun enough they had fully expected the original re1 to kind of flop so when
01:29it blew up and became the global sensation it was their expectations got a lot higher for the sequel
01:34the version fans know today was rebuilt from scratch but the mysterious resident evil 1.5 build
01:40still circulates online almost completely playable
01:51edward's hand
01:58in the live-action opening sequence of this original game alpha team member joseph discovers a severed hand
02:04clutching a gun one of the dead bravo team members rebecca chambers is the only surviving member of bravo team
02:10so the rest of the team didn't get a lot of attention but then there was a prequel resident evil
02:150 and a
02:16closer look at bravo team that's when the question came up whose hand was it in the original game
02:21with the original n64 prototype and theorizing based on appearance theories were made about it being
02:27edward confirmation of this theory came in an entry in inside biohazard the 144 page guidebook
02:33the original resident evil reading edward dewey bravo team his right hand severed from the wrist was found in
02:39the arclay mountains the rest of his remains are still uncovered and the cause of death was deemed to
02:44be undeterminable
02:53wesker is alive
03:02wesker is alive is the overarching title for a theory that's been circulating since the end of re5
03:07wesker's death was fairly rock solid he was hit with rocket launches and drowned in a volcano but
03:13to albert wesker that's a light scratch while albert wesker is canonically killed in resident evil 5
03:18umbrella corpse which takes place after re6 strongly implies he's still alive or at least heavily involved
03:25the game features a mysterious high-ranking handler with a familiar voice and knowledge of wesker's past
03:31and notes mention failed attempts to analyze his dna on top of that we now have the mysterious xeno
03:37who looks and behaves like the man himself most likely due to the evolution of the t-virus
03:42with in-game notes implying the possibility of essentially uploading other people's memories
03:46into someone else through the t-virus there's a lot in this theory to still unpack
03:52raccoon city
03:55you're the reason for its destruction but you're also the key to building a brave new world
04:02dualshock basement
04:09the director's cut re-release of resident evil is infamous for its bizarre replacement soundtrack
04:14when capcom updated the game for dualshock support the original composer's music was replaced by a
04:19different soundtrack most tracks went pretty unnoticed but the basement theme became legendary among fans
04:26for sounding strangely chaotic and kind of comedic instead of the tense horror music expected from a
04:32survival horror game the track features awkward horn sounds that many players describe as resembling
04:37off-key instruments gross
04:50jill's diary
04:58in resident evil 3 nemesis if you manage to collect every file in the game in a particular order
05:03you can unlock a file called jill's diary
05:06it reveals that jill is experiencing nightmares and paranoia following the events of the spencer mansion
05:11incident the diary
05:12humanizes jill and shows the psychological toll the earlier events took on her
05:16rather than simply moving on after surviving the mansion
05:19she's trapped with the trauma of everything she witnessed
05:21it unlocks a new side of chris as well that mirrors his colder demeanor in the later games
05:26showing that chris may well have been affected the most
05:37fixed camera in five
05:42veterans of the series will remember a time when survival horror
05:46meant wrestling with tank controls and felt like piloting a forklift in a haunted house
05:50a design choice that defined early entries and these tank controls took place in the beloved fixed camera
05:56perspective resident evil 5 still sneaks in a nostalgic wink during the lost in nightmares dlc
06:02if you repeatedly try to leave through the front door a little question mark appears and the camera suddenly snaps
06:07into a classic fixed perspective
06:09briefly transforming the game into a ps1 era memory when you're fighting the controls as much as the enemies
06:14hard to be back god damn why won't you run in a straight line chris i hate you
06:26biohazard
06:33in japan the resident evil series has always been called biohazard
06:38the name reflects the core premise of biological disasters caused by experimental viruses
06:42when capcom prepared to release the first game internationally they discovered the title biohazard
06:47was already trademarked in the united states as a result the developers chose the name resident evil
06:52inspired by the game's mansion setting and the sinister atmosphere inside it resident evil evil
06:58residents get it interestingly the series later reunited the two titles with resident evil 7
07:04biohazard referencing both the japanese and western names simultaneously yay
07:15level two resident evil psp
07:18resident evil psp refers to resident evil portable a planned playstation portable entry announced by capcom in 2009
07:28not long after resident evil 5 released very little concrete information was ever released which made it one of those
07:34classic resident evil ghost projects officially acknowledged heavily speculated about and then
07:40effectively swallowed by development limbo because so little was shown fans ended up filling the gaps
07:45themselves imagining whether it would be a remake a spin-off or an original survival horror entry
07:51built specifically for handheld play
07:58sweet home
08:04before resident evil existed there was sweet home a 1989 capcom horror game that heavily influenced the series dna
08:11the haunted mansion setting limited inventory management scattered notes and diaries puzzle solving and oppressive horror atmosphere all have roots
08:21there
08:21tokaro fujiwara who worked on sweet home later helped shepherd the original resident evil and the connection is so strong
08:27that many fans view sweet home as the franchise's spiritual ancestor
08:32it's not part of the same canon but its fingerprints are all over the formula play for an hour you'll
08:37see
08:43five is racist
08:46there's only so much one person can do even a superhero like you chris
08:51we don't blame you if you were white and obtuse back in 2009 we all were but for much of
08:57the black community this entry will not be new news as it was fairly substantial back at release
09:02this entry refers to the controversy surrounding early promotional material for resident evil 5 especially after trailers showed chris redfield
09:10fighting infected enemies in an african setting
09:12some critics and players argued the imagery of a white protagonist
09:17mowing down black villages was racially uncomfortable and pretty tone deaf
09:22there's also the marshland segment which involves a lot more questionable content
09:25the final release pushed chris as a helper but this just opened them up to the white savior stereotypes
09:31so also a swing and a miss for old capcom
09:36aricus
09:40early in resident evil 2 players can spot a storefront called aricus fans noticed that spelled backwards it reads sakura
09:47a likely nod to sakura from capcom street fighter
09:50it is one of those tiny background jokes that most players miss on a first run but once you know
09:55it's there it becomes a fun example of capcom sneaking little internal references into the ruined streets of raccoon city
10:01it's a nice reminder that capcom is just kind of a fun company they don't take themselves that seriously
10:08i thought you were one of them
10:12what's going on in this town
10:15n64 zero
10:25re2 has a beloved n64 port
10:28that actually plays and feels better than the ps1 with more detailed character animations
10:32but there was also a planned re0
10:35the n64 and it wasn't a port
10:37capcom actually developed the game
10:39for the n64 before shifting it to the gamecube
10:42largely because the team struggled with cartridge storage limitations
10:46the premise and core story ideas
10:48survived the transition but the final gamecube release
10:50was reworked then simply ported over
10:52that abandoned n64 build
10:55became a fascinating bit of franchise archaeology
10:58especially once prototype footage was later released
11:01take a look at it
11:17the biohazard drama albums are official japanese audio dramas tied to the game series
11:23they were radio play style productions later released on cd expanding the world of the games through side stories and
11:29character focused material
11:30examples include the doomed raccoon city and the female spy ada lives
11:35the latter actually detailing how ada survived her assumed death at the end of re2 well before re4
11:41her conflicting feelings for leon and also her relationship with albert wesker
11:46they are strange but fascinating corners of resident evil history
11:49because they show how the franchise was being expanded in japan
11:53richard is on the cover
12:02this one's more of a fan theory than hard confirmed fact
12:05but it's still worth talking about
12:06the american playstation cover for resident evil
12:09was designed by bill
12:10sike
12:11sike
12:12sike
12:13sike
12:13and over the years
12:15some fans have argued that the man depicted resembles richard aiken
12:18of bravo team
12:19more than chris redfield
12:21there's definitely discussion about it in the fandom
12:23but i'm definitely not presenting it as canon
12:26pretty interesting though
12:30fixed camera in 4
12:35capcom went through multiple discarded versions of resident evil 4 before landing on the final over the shoulder format
12:42one of the major changes in that process was moving away from the classic fixed camera style of the older
12:46games
12:47a demo featuring the also cut villain hook man shows just how this semi fixed perspective would have looked on
12:53the system
13:00level 3
13:02leon and ada have sex
13:04who is that
13:06stay sharp
13:10ever wondered how leon has ada's phone number in re6
13:14this entry refers to a long-running fan rumor surrounding leon kennedy and ada wong's relationship
13:20across games like re2 and re4 and re6 the two share clear romantic tension
13:25but the games never explicitly confirm a physical relationship
13:28some expanded material and developer comments have hinted that the relationship is complicated and intimate
13:34but the series deliberately keeps things ambiguous
13:37because of that ambiguity the idea that leon and ada have slept together
13:41became one of the franchise's most persistent pieces of fandom speculation
13:45stop asking questions and get the hell out of here
13:53re1 was first person
14:02early development of resident evil experimented with a first person perspective
14:07before the series settled on its iconic fixed camera presentation
14:10capcom was initially inspired by sweet home
14:13and some early ideas reportedly included a more direct perspective for exploration
14:18however the developers ultimately chose cinematic fixed angles to increase tension
14:23and hide enemies off screen
14:32gs2 is a dream
14:42resident evil gun survivor 2 code veronica
14:45or more simply resident evil survivor 2
14:47is a light gun shooter spin-off based on resident evil code veronica
14:52after completing arcade mode
14:54it is revealed that all of the events of the game are a dream
14:57that claire is having after code veronica
14:59as she's traveling home with chris
15:01this makes sense
15:02as the game essentially retells and reimagines sections of code veronica
15:05through a surreal arcade style perspective
15:07the confusion came from developers stating
15:09it was canon
15:10which it technically is
15:12as a character is having a dream during canon events
15:14pretty sneaky
15:20nintendo deal
15:23not quite your ordinary house
15:25that's for sure
15:27hey whisker
15:28where's chris
15:30jill no
15:31you don't want to go back out there
15:33in the early 2000s capcom entered a major partnership with nintendo
15:37to produce exclusive resident evil titles for the gamecube
15:40this deal resulted in several releases
15:42including the remake of resident evil
15:45and resident evil zero and initially resident evil 4
15:48at the time it appeared the franchise would become closely tied to nintendo hardware
15:52however capcom eventually reversed course and released resident evil 4 on all other platforms as well
15:58making the exclusivity period relatively short lived
16:11chris was supposed to die
16:12hard to find a good steak around here
16:16not like back home
16:29fill her up
16:30during development of resident evil 6 there were reportedly early story concepts where chris redfield would sacrifice himself near the
16:37end of the campaign
16:38the idea would have served as a dramatic conclusion to chris's long war against bioterrorism
16:43instead the game explores chris's trauma and guilt after losing his squad showing how deeply the fight against bioweapons has
16:49affected him
16:55cv was re3
16:57it might have been a special forces team
17:00but in any case this prison's been taken over
17:03troops have been wiped out
17:05what are you saying
17:06you're free to leave the complex
17:09originally resident evil code veronica was intended to be the true third entry in the series
17:15considering it does really truly feel like the natural story sequel from re2
17:20it continued the storyline of claire redfield searching for her brother chris
17:24and significantly expanded the franchise's lore
17:27however due to the publishing arrangements with sony
17:29the numbered resident evil 3 title had to remain on playstation hardware
17:33as a result the side project they were working on titled resident evil city of the dead
17:37received the numbered title resident evil 3 nemesis
17:40while code veronica released separately on the dreamcast
17:43it makes a lot of sense when you think about it
17:45re2 and 3 take place essentially side by side
17:483 does fit the spin-off title much better than code veronica
17:54he was a fool to do something so reckless
17:58so stupid
18:00hunk is a redfield
18:12redfield is hunk hunk is a redfield redfield hunk hunk redfield
18:15these are all names for the same fan theory suggesting that the mysterious umbrella operative hunk
18:21might secretly be connected to the redfield family
18:23hunk appears in resident evil 2 as a masked special forces soldier sent to retrieve the g-virus
18:28because his identity is hidden and his combat skills are extremely advanced
18:32some fans speculated about possible ties to existing characters
18:36however there's no official confirmation linking hunk to chris or claire redfield
18:40making the theory purely speculative
18:42still fun
18:493.5
18:543.5 refers to one of the early prototype versions of resident evil 4 shown during development
19:00in this version leon explored a gothic castle
19:03filled with ghost-like enemies and hallucination mechanics
19:06the game leaned heavily into psychological horror
19:08introducing strange supernatural imagery and shifting environments
19:11capcom eventually scrapped this direction
19:14because it strayed too far from the series biological horror roots
19:25biohazard dash
19:34biohazard dash refers to an early internal concept for a direct sequel to resident evil
19:38during the late 1990s
19:40before re2 took its final form
19:42capcom actually experimented with multiple ideas for continuing the story
19:46after the spencer mansion incident
19:48one rumored concept involved a fast-paced continuation
19:51sometimes nicknamed biohazard dash
19:54dash was going to return
19:55what remained of the mansion
19:57the game would have reused existing environment assets from resident evil
20:00but modified it to appear damaged
20:02in this proposed setting it would have been around the year 2001
20:06where what remained of the mansion had been taken over by irregular mutants from the surrounding forest
20:11such as giant spiders and lizards
20:13ew
20:21resident evil color
20:24capcom once attempted to port resident evil to the game boy color
20:28the project was surprisingly far along in development
20:31featuring simplified versions of the mansion characters and enemies adapted for handheld hardware
20:35however capcom ultimately cancelled the game before release
20:38because they felt the final product did not meet the quality expected of the series
20:42years later
20:43the nearly complete prototype surfaced online
20:45revealing how ambitious the attempt actually was
20:47and guys

21:03oh hey
21:04you alright
21:05you just disappeared the other night
21:07yeah
21:07yeah no i'm good
21:09i'm good
21:09before resident evil 7 biohazard was released
21:12capcom experimented with several early development concepts while trying to reinvent the franchise
21:17one rumor within development circles suggested that western studios were consulted or pitched ideas for a more modern horror direction
21:25creative assembly the developers of alien isolation pitched an idea that was ultimately rejected
21:30with a theory online suggesting that perhaps capcom stole some of the ideas pitched as the similarities between re7 and
21:38the later released alien isolation are hard to ignore
21:47dmc1 was re4
21:53devil may cry
21:56sorry we closed at 9
21:58one of the most famous pieces of resident evil development history is that devil may cry originally began as a
22:04prototype for resident evil 4
22:05dmc's director was tasked with reinventing the resident evil series and his prototype evolved into a fast-paced action game
22:13starring a stylish new protagonist
22:15as development continued the project drifted further from survival horror and into supernatural action territory capcom ultimately spun it off
22:23into a new franchise entirely releasing it in 2001 as devil may cry rather than a resident evil entry
22:36you made the ra wass and I
22:37you made the ra wass and I
22:49you made the ra wass and I terribly pronounced
22:50roughly translates to I won't let this end as a dream
22:54it's the japanese ending theme song for resident evil on the sega satin
22:58featuring beautifully sung lyrics the song plays during the credits of the Japanese version of the game.
23:04Western releases instead featured a different ending theme that didn't feature lyrics.
23:08Boring.
23:13Steve's Hair
23:19Steve Burnside's hair in Resident Evil Code Veronica
23:22became an unexpectedly famous topic among fans because of how unusual it looks in the original game.
23:27The bright orange, almost gravity-defying hairstyle stood out even in the late 90s Dreamcast era of exaggerated character designs.
23:35Some players joke that the hair looked glued on to the model or permanently windswept.
23:40The PS2 port changed the hair, though the official reason why has never been released.
23:45Once I find you, I can finally escape from this crazy island. I'll see ya.
23:50Hey, wait up!
23:51Leon was hungover on his first day.
24:00A small piece of backstory revealed in Resident Evil 2 explains why Leon Kennedy arrives late to his first day
24:07as a police officer in Raccoon City.
24:08According to official character files, Leon had recently broken up with his girlfriend and ended up drinking heavily the night
24:14before he was supposed to report to work.
24:16Because of this, he overslept and missed his scheduled arrival time at the Raccoon City Police Department.
24:21Ironically, that delay likely saved his life.
24:24By the time Leon reaches the city, the outbreak is already underway, meaning he avoids being trapped inside the station
24:30when the infection first spreads.
24:38Jake is a continuity error.
24:44This doesn't do anything for you yet.
24:46It's supposed to be some kind of energy booster, but...
24:51I don't feel any different.
24:52Jake Mueller, introduced in Resident Evil 6, is revealed to be the son of Albert Wesker.
24:57While the twist adds a new connection to the series' main villain, some fans have pointed out that it raises
25:03timeline questions.
25:04Jake is in his early 20s during the events of Resident Evil 6, meaning he would have had to have
25:09been born long before Wesker gained his superhuman abilities.
25:12Because Wesker's earlier appearances as well never mention a child, some players consider Jake's existence a retroactive addition that slightly
25:19conflicts with established lore.
25:21I am willing to renegotiate.
25:37Japanese Dub.
25:38Oh! Oh no!
25:41Sorry, I didn't mean to do that.
25:44You must be from the Bravo team.
25:46This one's a little strange, especially for a Japanese game, but Japan's version of Resident Evil doesn't have any Japanese
25:52audio.
25:53It was actually recorded, but director Shinji Mikami scrapped it because he didn't like how it sounded.
25:58Racist.
25:59The English voice tracks were used for both Japan and North America.
26:02The good thing is that this gave Japanese players a perfect excuse to practice their English by repeating terribly translated
26:08English dialogue.
26:09The helicopter made a forced landing.
26:11I just ran into this house anyway.
26:1310% Immunity.
26:17Throughout Resident Evil lore, it's implied that a small portion of the population has a natural resistance to certain virus
26:24strains.
26:25Some umbrella documentation suggests that the majority of infected individuals immediately mutate or die, while that small minority show unusual
26:33resistance or compatibility.
26:34This small piece of lore that was released on the official Biohazard website explains how your playable characters in Resident
26:41Evil games manage to survive bites and scratches unchanged.
27:01I wasn't going to include this as the executor virus, otherwise known as the Cameron virus, was introduced in the
27:07non-canon 3D animated short film Biohazard 4D executor.
27:10But with the in-game lore of the recent Resident Evil Requiem, the executor virus has become more canonically linked.
27:16The executor virus was a mutagenic virus engineered by umbrella virologist Dr. Cameron.
27:21Those infected with the Cameron virus gain the ability to transfer their intelligence and minds into the bodies of those
27:27who they come into physical contact with.
27:29Cameron virus infected are also capable of mutating various parts of their bodies, such as growing tentacles to defend themselves.
27:41The stage
27:54Surprisingly, Resident Evil has even inspired stage productions.
27:58One notable example is Biohazard The Stage, a Japanese theatrical performance based on the video game series.
28:04The production features live actors portraying characters from the universe while dealing with a new outbreak scenario.
28:10Although it exists outside the main canon, it demonstrates how widely the franchise has expanded into other forms of media.

28:32Trevor's Diary
28:34Alpha team is flying around the forest zone, situated in northwest Raccoon City.
28:39the trevor diaries appear in the resident evil remake but were also intended in the original
28:43and later cut with their entire transcript appearing in promotional material for the
28:48satin release they are a series of tragic notes written by architect george trevor trevor
28:53designed the spencer mansion for oswell spencer unknowingly building secret passages and traps
28:58that umbrella intended to use for experimentation when trevor began to suspect something was wrong
29:03spencer invited him to the mansion and then imprisoned him there the diary entries described
29:07trevor slowly starving while searching for his missing family they are some of the most disturbing
29:12pieces of environmental storytelling in the entire series he's also the father of the disturbing
29:16in-game remake character lisa trevor golgotha and xerum you think we can get upstairs through this shaft
29:31give me a boost i'll go and check golgotha and xerum are the names for boss types that were originally
29:37rejected during re2's development golgotha originally designed as a final boss for resident evil 1.5 it
29:43was intended to be a transformed william birkin fought outside an escape train xerum a monster
29:48designed from the rejected biohazard dash which influenced the development of the golgotha design
29:56the merchant is ganado over here stranger in resident evil 4 the mysterious merchant who sells weapons to
30:04leon appears strangely unaffected by the last plague as parasite controlling the villagers
30:08many fans believe the merchant is actually a ganado who retained his independence explaining his
30:13glowing eyes and knowledge of the local infection the games never directly confirmed this but his
30:18appearance and dialogue strongly suggests he is connected to the infected population while somehow
30:23remaining neutral you've picked quite the place to set up shop stranger i and look what it brought me
30:35chris is gay chris what the hell sorry ethan there is a long-running fan interpretation surrounding chris
30:45redfield because chris has never been shown with a clear romantic relationship in the mainline games some
30:51fans speculate about his sexuality the theory gained traction particularly during the era of resident
30:56evil 5 and resident evil 6 where chris's closest emotional bonds were his female teammates rather
31:02than romantic partners however capcom has never officially confirmed any specific orientation for the
31:08character Miranda how are you involved leave it alone ethan you are out of your depth what about the
31:13sample analysis it's definitely related to the mold haunting ground haunting grand actually began
31:23development as one of the early prototypes for resident evil 4 during development capcom experimented
31:28with several wildly different versions of the game one of these prototypes featured a young woman
31:33trapped in a castle with a large dog companion and a pursuer enemy that concept eventually evolved into its
31:39own game released in 2005 as haunting ground while resident evil 4 continued development in a

32:24comes from billy disappearing from the story after zero however there's no official evidence supporting
32:29this theory and it remains pure speculation among fans

38:53of the spencer mansion including puzzle focused exploration and backtracking and while resident

39:10recognize a girl in this photograph the parasites featured in resident evil 4 known as las plagas
39:20are described in the game as ancient organisms discovered beneath a spanish castle some fans

39:31biology and long dormancy underground however the official law describes them as an ancient
39:36terrestrial parasite rather than an alien life form the alien theory remains a fringe interpretation

41:54resident evil as a series features lots of stories outside of the games through written media audio
42:01dramas and shorts the world has expanded heavily but one of the more interesting stories comes from

42:12village near raccoon forest followed reverend harvey simmons into the wilderness to perform a religious
42:17ceremony during the ritual they encountered a mutated snake and drank its blood unknowingly infecting
42:23themselves with the t-virus over the following weeks the villagers developed symptoms of cannibal disease
42:29at first they experienced brief violent outbursts but by mid-july the condition escalated into murders
42:35and cannibalistic attacks many villages interpreted the snake as a divine gift from a saint and believed
42:40the violence was part of shredding their mortal forms because victims often regain brief moments of
42:46sanity the remaining villagers hesitated to kill the infected and instead focused on burying the dead
42:51the village chief proposed executing the infected in the church crypt but simmons opposed the idea as the
42:57situation worsened stars officer jill valentine arrived after investigating a truck crash connected to the village
43:03when she was attacked the chief ordered her imprisoned and destroyed the bridge to isolate the community
43:08chaos followed as zombies overran the settlement and survivors fled to the church simmons eventually
