00:05Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're begging Square Enix to get it right.
00:09Kingdom Hearts 3 felt like a slight step down from Kingdom Hearts 2,
00:12but if we go another step down, I fear it might end up being the Resident Evil 6 of the
00:16Kingdom
00:16Hearts series. These are 10 things Square Enix should include in Kingdom Hearts 4. Let's go.
00:22Before we continue, we publish content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:27the bell to get notified of our latest videos. Square Enix Worlds
00:38One thing fans have been asking for over the years is a world based on an actual Square Enix
00:42property rather than another Disney film. Considering how closely linked the series
00:47is to Square Enix, it almost feels strange that it hasn't happened on a larger scale yet.
00:51The idea doesn't even require an entire game-sized location. A smaller area inspired by an iconic
00:56setting could work just as well. Imagine exploring the moon from Final Fantasy 4,
01:00wandering through the haunted ruined cities from Nier Automata, or visiting a district pulled
01:05straight from the world ends with you. I've said since 2002 that I want to go to Midgar.
01:10These locations could offer unique enemies, music, and story opportunities while giving
01:14the franchise a chance to celebrate its own heritage instead of relying entirely on Disney
01:18worlds for every major destination.
01:20No one's found anything yet?
01:22Well, it's outside their field of expertise.
01:26A NEW VILLAIN
01:35For better or worse, Master Xehanort has been at the center of almost every major event throughout
01:39the Kingdom Hearts series. No matter which game players jump into, there was always, and usually,
01:44a Xehanort, part of a Xehanort, a future Xehanort, or a backup Xehanort waiting somewhere around the
01:49corner. After so many years, the Dark Seeker saga finally reached its conclusion in Kingdom
01:53Hearts 3, bringing the character's long journey to an end. That's exactly why the series needs to
01:58move forward. While Kingdom Hearts 4 appears to be setting up a new direction, long-time fans know
02:03this franchise has a habit of dragging old villains back into the spotlight when nobody expects it,
02:08or wants it. As entertaining as that can be, Xehanort's story feels complete. The man has caused
02:13enough problems for several lifetimes. Let him go, and don't introduce his son named Xehanort,
02:18you scumbags.
02:19Ruin brings about creation. What then would another Keyblade war bring?
02:36More than any new world or surprise character, one thing I'd like to see from Kingdom Hearts 4
02:41is Sora being forced to confront who he is when nobody else is around. Throughout the series,
02:46Sora has always been the person bringing people together, but there have been small moments that
02:50suggest there's more going on beneath the cheerful attitude. In Kingdom Hearts 2, during the second
02:55visit to Port Royal, he briefly wonders if he'll ever make it home before immediately brushing that
02:59thought aside with a joke. Moments like this feel less like a throwaway dialogue, and more like
03:03glimpses into feelings he doesn't want others to see. The series has also repeatedly tied Sora's
03:08identity to his friends. He even breaks down in Kingdom Hearts 3 after losing everyone, insisting
03:13he's nothing without them. Now that Kingdom Hearts 4 appears to have separated him from everyone he
03:18knows, it feels like the perfect opportunity to explore what remains when his support network is
03:23gone. For the first time, we might finally learn who Sora is when he's completely alone.
03:28Goth? We'll see. Goofy, the king, gone forever.
03:37What do we do? More playable characters.
03:44Leave it to me. One of the best surprises in the Kingdom Hearts series has always been the moments
03:49when the game suddenly hands control to someone other than Sora. Whether it's Roxas, Riku, Aqua,
03:55Terra, Ventus, or other key characters, those sections often provide a fresh perspective on the
03:59story and some unique gameplay opportunities. With the roster of Keyblade wielders now far larger than
04:05it was in the early days of the series, Kingdom Hearts 4 feels like the perfect opportunity to lean
04:10into that idea even more. There are plenty of characters who could support entire gameplay chapters
04:15of their own. Kairi stands out as an especially obvious choice. Despite her importance to the
04:20story, players have spent surprisingly little time controlling her directly. Letting Kairi take center
04:25stage and rescue Sora for a change would be a fun reversal and a long overdue development for her
04:30character.
04:36What's in the box?
04:42Few mysteries in the Kingdom Hearts series have generated as much speculation as the infamous
04:47black box. Ever since it was introduced in Kingdom Hearts X back cover, fans have been trying to work
04:52out what is hidden inside, yet years later we still have almost no concrete answer. My theory is it's
04:58Gwyneth Paltrow's head. Many players expected the box to become a major focus of Kingdom Hearts 3,
05:03especially given how often characters discussed it throughout the story. Instead, the game kept its
05:07secrets intact, offering only brief appearances and a handful of cryptic clues. The most notable hint
05:13came from Luxord who suggested the box contains Hope, though what that actually means remains anyone's
05:19guess. Is it literally or metaphorically Hope? Is there a girl named Hope squished inside? No idea.
05:25Well you see, the thing is, you can never, ever open it. Great, now I really want to know.
05:34Side quests.
05:43For all their size and visual detail, many worlds in the Kingdom Hearts series can feel surprisingly one and done.
05:50Once the main story is finished, there often isn't much reason to revisit areas beyond collecting treasure
05:55chests, hunting hidden mickeys or wrapping up a few leftover objectives. That's why proper side quests
05:59could be such a valuable addition to Kingdom Hearts 4. The series has always been packed with minigames,
06:05but meaningful optional missions have been strangely rare. The closest example came in Kingdom Hearts 3,
06:10where players could help rescue stranded villagers during the opening sections and receive rewards for
06:15doing so. It was a really, really nice idea, but only a small taste of what could be possible.
06:20Expanding that concept into full side quests would make exploration feel far more rewarding
06:25and help bring each world to life beyond its story events.
06:34Character customization
06:46A surprisingly cool feature that never made the jump from Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep
06:50of Fragmentary Passage into Kingdom Hearts 3, geez that was a hard sentence, was character
06:55appearance customization. In that game, players could unlock cosmetic accessories by completing various
07:00challenges, allowing them to personalize Aqua's look without affecting gameplay. It wasn't a major
07:04feature, but it added a nice sense of individuality and gave completionists something extra to work
07:09towards. Bringing that system back in Kingdom Hearts 4 feels like an easy win. Better yet,
07:14Square Enix could expand on the idea by tying small passive bonuses or unique abilities to certain
07:19accessories. The series has featured countless pieces of equipment over the years, but very few
07:23have actually changed how characters look. Combining visual customization with gameplay benefits would
07:29add another layer of progression while letting players put their own spin on their favorite heroes.
07:33I want to give Sora Mickey Mouse ears. Like a Disney World. I think it'd trip the mouse out.
07:38I want to give Sora Mickey Mouse ears.
07:50Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilms, fans have been wondering when, not if, Star Wars would
07:55eventually find its way into the Kingdom Hearts universe. Few franchises are as instantly recognizable,
08:00and the possibilities for a world based on a galaxy far, far away are kind of endless. Whether
08:06players explored Tatooine, the Death Star or another iconic location, it would immediately become one of the
08:11most talked about additions in the series. The idea might sound unusual at first, but Kingdom Hearts
08:16has already shown it can blend very different styles together really successfully. The more
08:20realistic presentation of the Pirates of the Caribbean worlds proved that Sora can fit into
08:24settings that don't resemble classic Disney animations. If handled with the same care, a Star
08:28Wars world could feel like a natural evolution rather than a strange crossover gimmick, while attracting
08:33even more attention to the franchise. Still, Sora beating Darth Vader would make me laugh. Poor Darth.
08:48Final Fantasy Characters
08:54It's easy to forget sometimes the Kingdom Hearts wasn't built solely on Disney magic. The series
08:59was originally created as a crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy, making Square Enix's characters
09:04just as important to its identity. That's why their reduced presence in Kingdom Hearts 3 felt so
09:09strange to long-time fans, mainly me. I'm just kind of there for Final Fantasy, that's why it breaks my
09:14heart to see them push to the side. Earlier games regularly featured characters like Leon, Yuffie,
09:20Cloud, Aerith and even Sephiroth in meaningful roles that helped shape Sora's journey. Roles that I cared
09:25way more about than Disney. I'm so sorry Disney fans. They weren't just cameos thrown in for nostalgia,
09:30they felt like part of the world itself. Removing most of those connections left a noticeable gap.
09:36As the series moves into a new era, bringing these characters back would help restore one of the key
09:40ingredients that made Kingdom Hearts feel so unique in the first place.
09:45Hey fellas!
09:52Bring back the Coliseum.
09:59One of the worst omissions from Kingdom Hearts 3 was the complete absence of a proper Coliseum,
10:04especially considering Olympus was still included as a major world. For many fans, the arena tournaments
10:10were a core part of the series, offering a steady stream of optional battles, difficult boss encounters
10:14and extra rewards long after the main story was finished. For me, it was Kingdom Hearts. It's my
10:19only memory of the game when it first came out. The Hades Cup, Paradox Cups and other tournament
10:24challenges gave players a place to test powerful abilities without having to replay entire sections
10:29of the game. And the hours they spent in it can't be counted. Their absence in Kingdom Hearts 3 left
10:34a
10:35noticeable hole in the endgame experience. Whether it's tied to Olympus again or introduced somewhere
10:39new, a dedicated battle arena feels like something Kingdom Hearts 4 should absolutely bring back.
10:44Sometimes players just want to fight increasingly ridiculous bosses for bragging rights, and the
10:49Coliseum was perfect for that.
