A major breakthrough has emerged in the death case of a six-year-old girl in Panipat. Police have arrested a woman identified as Poonam, accused of drowning the child in a tub of water. According to the police, the accused has a disturbing history and has allegedly murdered four children earlier, including her own son.
The recent incident occurred in Naultha village under the Israna police station area, where six-year-old Vidhi was found dead. Investigations revealed that the girl was murdered. Police further stated that in 2023, Poonam had killed her sister-in-law’s daughter as well as her own son. In August 2025, she allegedly murdered another girl in Siwah village. Poonam, a resident of Bhavad village in Sonipat, is married to Naveen.
Vidhi, aged six, was found with her head submerged in a tub of water in a storeroom at a wedding house in Naultha. Her grandfather, retired SI Pal Singh, had immediately alleged murder and filed a complaint. An FIR was registered on the basis of his statement. The post-mortem was conducted on Tuesday, after which the body was handed over to the family.
Pal Singh, a resident of Bhavad village, stated that his family lives in Ramnagar, Sonipat. They had gone to Naultha to attend a wedding of their relative, Satpal. On Monday afternoon, as the wedding procession left, Vidhi suddenly went missing. After nearly an hour of searching, Pal Singh’s wife, Omvati, found the storeroom on the first floor locked. Upon opening it, Vidhi was discovered with her head in a water tub while her feet touched the ground.
The child was rushed to NC Medical College, where doctors declared her dead. During the investigation, police arrested Poonam, who is said to be the deceased girl’s aunt. Further interrogation is underway to uncover more details.
