Bengaluru Man Allegedly Strangles Woman After Family Fixes Her Engagement

A 33-year-old man allegedly strangled his secret wife to death after learning that her parents were arranging her engagement with another man in Bengaluru's Byadarahalli police station limits.

The accused allegedly attempted to stage the incident as a mutual s**** by c***ming poison after the murder.

The deceased has been identified as Bhavani S, a resident of Tulasi Nagar and a native of Magadi in Bengaluru South district. She worked as a billing executive at a mobile phone shop in Tigalarapalya.

The accused, Chandrashekar, is an autorickshaw driver.

According to police, the incident came to light on Saturday morning when Bhavani's aunt informed her mother that Bhavani had posted an Instagram story featuring a man. Concerned, her father, Srinivasa N, called her at around 7.30 am but received no response despite repeated attempts.

He then contacted the house owner and requested him to check on her. The house owner noticed signs that someone was inside the house but received no response after repeatedly knocking on the door, following which he alerted the police.

Police reached the spot and found Bhavani dead inside the house, while Chandrashekar was found unconscious but alive. He was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment and later taken into police custody.

Investigators said there was a strong smell of a poisonous substance inside the house, which was also detected on both Bhavani and Chandrashekar.

During the investigation, police discovered that the couple had secretly married a year ago and had been living together without their families' knowledge.

However, Bhavani had recently learned that Chandrashekar was already married and had a six-year-old child. Distressed by the revelation, she informed her family, who subsequently arranged her engagement to another man, which was scheduled for the following week.

Police said Chandrashekar visited Bhavani's house on Saturday and an argument broke out between them. He allegedly told her, "I cannot live without you. We should either live together or die together."

Investigators further alleged that Chandrashekar uploaded a photograph of their marriage on Instagram. After Bhavani's family saw the post and contacted her, another confrontation reportedly took place between the couple.

During the altercation, Chandrashekar allegedly strangled Bhavani to death before consuming poison in an apparent attempt to stage the incident as a mutual s****.

Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
