00:00Anderson Cooper, giving them a chance to just reflect what I have seen in New Hampshire and I've seen it
00:07in South Carolina and I see it in Florida tonight.
00:09And that is that young people are very passionate about Ron Paul and they want passionately to vote for him.
00:15They care. And seeing young people this involved in this passion is a pretty neat thing, regardless of what you
00:20think about the candidate that they choose.
00:23All right, let's talk about the super PACs. These groups can raise them.
00:30So just how influential are these ads? Out front now, John, you got the call lights, you got the 99
00:35% on lights, great.
00:37Gloria, let me start with you. The super PACs supporting Newt Gingrich had not spent a dollar in Florida before
00:42this week.
00:43Only Mitt Romney's ads were visible. This week, Newt tied with Mitt. Proof it worked?
00:47Well, without the bill was very different than arriving in Manchester or in Charleston, South Carolina.
00:53I.e. saw lots of signs on the roads and in front of people's houses there and really not as
00:57much here in Jacksonville.
00:58It's a different sort of election here. So do ads matter more?
01:02Ads really do matter here. You've got Jeb Bush, but I won't because none of us will be able to
01:05hear.
01:05But John came, talked to Jeb Bush tonight. Jeb Bush basically said, look, if you've just drowned all this in
01:10negativity,
01:11you take away the connection people have with their candidates. You do yourself more harm in the long run. What
01:16do you think?
01:16Well, this gets to the core issue of what's the state.
01:19Can he get the nomination if he does not win Florida?
01:21I think death blows in a row.
01:23I think he could. I think it goes on. A third of the ballots in the state could be absentee
01:27or early voting.
01:27Right. And you have a sense of kind of the two people who would have likely benefited from that.
01:31Well, absentee votes in particular have a Ron Paul edge because they're largely military.
01:36Probably, though.
01:37It's pivotal for both of them.
01:38Right, right, right.
01:39But tonight's the old, this is a big enchilada debate tonight.
01:41It's all coming down to the wire.
01:43And I guarantee you, they're both going to be ready to fight it out on stage tonight.
01:49It's too much at stake.
01:51I guarantee you, though, for him, Ari, with apparently the things that you file early on,
01:55and you're coming to be a candidate in August.
01:56He filed some financial disclosures with the election, the Federal Election Commission.
02:00Some things weren't in there that we've now found out in his tax returns, like the Swiss bank account.
02:04Obviously, he's disclosed everything now.
02:06No one's going to say the guy hasn't.
02:08Right.
02:08But he didn't want to until he won the nomination.
02:10So they say these are minor things.
02:12Are they minor or not?
02:14Well, obviously, that's missing.
02:15There's a form or two that's missing.
02:17And the Swiss bank accounts, if they're so secretive, why do we all know about them?
02:22Look, in a state where a lot of people are suffering real financial pain, where you...
02:26...trust, too, all of his income-generating revenue.
02:31Yeah, she is so cold and used to the concept, which I've kind of brought up.
02:35Thanks so much to all of me.
02:37Now and now, we're just 15 minutes away.
02:40I can tell you, it's pretty invigorating and exciting to be here with these young students who are so excited.
02:45John King moderated the last debate.
02:46Who doesn't know that?
02:48He's got a preview of what he expects tonight.
02:50And Newt versus the media.
02:51When I talked to Newt Gingrich last week, he complained about the elite media.
02:55But now the conservatives are piling on and forth.
03:01All right, so why the push to stop Gingrich, and will it work?
03:04The man's certainly got a lot of momentum in South Carolina.
03:07Joining me now, David Prom, let me start with you.
03:09Bob Dole coming out today with a big slam on Newt Gingrich.
03:12You spoke to Bob Dole.
03:13What did he tell you, and why did he come out today?
03:16Well, actually, Aaron, I went by to see him and pay my respects about three or four weeks ago,
03:20and we spent an hour together.
03:21And we talked about Newt Gingrich, and I think...
03:23...the conservative establishment has come out against Newt, or for Mitt Romney.
03:27Why?
03:28You're someone who's not a supporter of Newt Gingrich.
03:32People respond to Newt.
03:33People like Newt.
03:34What's wrong with him?
03:34Well, it's interesting that it's not just a Republican that's heard,
03:37because they're going to be on a ticket.
03:39Men, where Newt has a huge gender on that ticket, and Newt Gingrich...
03:43I misheard that with all the noise, but...
03:44No, no, you heard it right.
03:46Getting in their beds.
03:46Okay.
03:47You could have said something worse.
03:50All right.
03:51David, from Ronald Reagan, famous saying,
03:53Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican.
03:55Yes.
03:55It is being violated.
03:56One of the things that needs to be understood here is...
03:59...the face or the soul of the party.
04:01Well, it's the same thing you've seen John Boehner trying to do in the House.
04:04You know, this is a party that's fractured in a lot of different ways.
04:06I think David's right.
04:07But I do want to say one little exception.
04:09There's this much difference between these two candidates on where they stand on issues.
04:13Very little.
04:14This is not a...
04:14He got the buzz by telling an enormous lie.
04:17That's a good analogy.
04:17He got the buzz by opening with a big...
04:20What we now know is a big lie.
04:23And that gives you pause.
04:24It's not...
04:25I think what people worry about with Gingrich is that's not strength.
04:28That's anger.
04:30And yes, it's true that he speaks with Reagan.
04:33I think one of the reasons that Newt Gingrich talks so much about Reagan is to cause people to forget
04:38that he's not a man of the 80s.
04:39He's a man of the 90s.
04:41Although Alex wins the prize here for the best kind of visual metaphors.
04:44He's coming through a little bit.
04:45He in the bed.
04:46He doesn't matter where you are.
04:47I'm sorry I went in my bed.
04:48And as you know, we're just a few minutes away from tonight's GOP debate here in Jacksonville, Florida, University of
04:53North Florida, hosted by CNN.
04:55The last debate over Florida's crucial winner-take-all primary.
05:00John King, out front next.
