00:00Migraine and Headache Awareness Month.
00:01So on today's checklist, we're talking about how the hot weather can bring on what are often called summer headaches.
00:07Here to explain why and what we should do about them, Dr. Jen Cottle, Family Medicine.
00:11A summer headache, what exactly is it?
00:14So the term summer, the heat, you know, high heat just makes them feel really not so good.
00:19Heat can do it.
00:20Other people, dehydration.
00:22That's something we want you to stay hydrated in the summertime.
00:25Sunlight and glare, like just direct sunlight for some people can trigger a migraine, a headache.
00:29But also weather changes, things like barometric pressure changes, humidity changes can cause problems.
00:35I would say even like smog and like air pollution too for some people.
00:38And then remember in the summertime, we're traveling, we're going on vacation.
00:42Yes, facts.
00:43These disrupted routines.
00:44So what are some of the ways about dehydration can bring it on?
00:48So you want to stay hydrated, okay?
00:49Wearing sunglasses, especially for those, well, look, wearing sunglasses is really important for our eyes.
01:00I mean, and, you know, direct sunlight, you want to protect your eyes.
01:03So that's just a good, a good thing to do.
01:05But especially if you're sensitive to direct light.
01:07And then keeping routines constant, tough in the summertime, you know, but it's really hot outside.
01:12And then I always say as a family doctor, one thing I always want my patients to do is to
01:16keep a headache diary.
01:17That means to write down when you get the headache and try to think of exhaustion.
01:21Yes, it can.
01:21Explain what that is.
01:23This is when the heat really sort of takes a toll on your body.
01:26It's your body's signal that you need to get cool and cool down.
01:30So you can have a headache that is a part of this heat exhaustion sort of symptomatology.
01:35You may feel fatigued, really tired, dizzy.
01:38You may have heavy sweating.
01:39You probably will have heavy sweating, maybe some nausea.
01:42But we mentioned that your mind is clear here because that's really exhaustion as you do with heat stroke.
01:46So one of the first words we see here is confusion.
01:49People with heat stroke can be kind of like not with it.
01:52They can be confused, maybe slurred speech.
01:55There could be even seizures, things like that, agitation, loss of consciousness.
01:59It's, oh, this is a medical emergency.
02:00Thank you for saying that.
02:01This is like 911 ASAP.
02:04Your body temperature is over 104 degrees.
02:06So that is very, very dangerous.
02:09Dr. Cotto, how do you know if you've got one of these, you know, summer headaches?
02:12How do you know when you should actually call your doctor or go away?
02:15Like sort of warning signs of any type of headache.
02:18Like if this ever happens, whether you think it's summer headache or if it's summer or not, I don't care.
02:22This requires emergency care.
02:24Thunderclap headache, a really sort of bad, worst headache of your life.
02:28Horrible.
02:28That's ER right away.
02:30Headache plus fever plus stiff neck.
02:32We worry about things like meningitis with that, right?
02:34Neurological symptoms.
02:35You got slurred speech.
02:36You got a droopy side of your mouth.
02:38You can't move your arm.
02:39We worry about strokes, right?
02:41Gets worse with coughing, sneezing, exercise, or after head injury.
02:45By the way, there are plenty more on this list.
02:47This is just a small sample.
02:49But I always note, well, so there are certain headaches.
02:51Oh, yeah, absolutely.
02:53So helpful.
02:54Thank you so much.
02:55And for more information on treating summer headaches, head to today.com for the expert tip of the day featuring
03:01Dr. Cotto.
03:02All right, coming up, look who's here in studio.
03:04Of course, the 1996 classic Killing Me Softly with his song from the iconic hip-hop group, the Fugees, featuring
03:12founding member Wyclef Jean.
03:14The Grammy award-winning hip-hop group.
03:16You're going to do it seven times.
03:18You get seven times.
03:20What was the inspiration behind this?
03:22Seven different albums.
03:23Well, I think that it starts off with the music to Latin and everything.
03:27So this is like my way of celebrating.
03:29You're going to...
03:30So this first one, Clef Notes, will be the first of the seven.
03:33And when it drops...
03:35My daughter, who's like, yo, dad, man, I need you to go back to that basement flow.
03:41Like when you was hungry.
03:42Go back.
03:43So Clef Notes is celebrating hip-hop.
03:46You know, Mr. October, by the way, the first track is...
03:49It's hot.
03:49It's fire.
03:50We've got a game we want to play here.
03:51Oh, I love this one.
03:52That's right.
03:52So we've got to...
03:53So, yeah, I mean, we just do it out, right?
03:55But I got to do my job.
03:56So I go, Whitney, you're about to kick me out of the studio.
03:59And then she goes...
04:03That's incredible.
04:04Yeah.
04:05She was going to do it again.
04:05One more time.
04:07And the greatest thing that I...
04:08When you come back, we want you to perform next time.
04:11I got you.
04:11All right.
04:12Notes is out this Friday.
04:14House, NFL Hall of Famer, Terry Brown.
04:17A legend.
04:18I love that legend.
04:19Taste, privately sealed.
04:21And they took it out of the studio.
04:23You saw Dylan.
04:25You said, hey, I love this lady.
04:26She was great.
04:27What she did is so hard.
04:29Dylan, that is so hard to do.
04:31Because you're a horse guy.
04:33Right.
04:33I mean, we're...
04:35Al, see, that's where your mind goes, Al.
04:37I wasn't going there.
04:38We're outdoor people.
04:40Yeah.
04:41It's good.
04:42You're here with your wife, Tammy.
04:44Yeah.
04:44There she is.
04:46You've got three daughters, three grandchildren.
04:48Four grandkids.
04:49Four now.
04:50Four.
04:50Four.
04:51Four.
04:52Hey, I'm sorry.
04:53I'm sorry.
04:54I do it.
04:56Got a great wife.
04:58Do I do that?
04:59You know what I'm talking about?
05:00Yeah.
05:00Yeah.
05:00And so, I'm most proud.
05:02You know, I'm just proud that I've turned out.
05:05This is selfish to say.
05:07But I know.
05:08And that's something.
05:09I look a little ancient in there.
05:11But don't look at that.
05:13I cut the hooks.
05:15And I've passed on.
05:16And I'm wanted to share the experience and the thought process.
05:20But do we ever?
05:21Yeah.
05:21We're having a good time looking for us.
05:23I think that's the fun part.
05:25I'm still pursuing, still chasing.
05:27No.
05:27No, Hester.
05:28Yeah.
05:28Bring that in.
05:29You've got a whole.
05:30Oh, you know.
05:31You know.
05:31Really good bourbon.
05:32Oh, no.
05:33Slippity bourbon.
05:34A lot of slippery bourbons aren't good.
05:36Yours is good.
05:37Mine has won all the awards.
05:38Gold label awards.
05:41Thank you, though.
05:42Our 12-year-out has won double gold standard awards and all those.
05:46It's good to see you.
05:47And all the.
05:47Oh, you're the horse lady.
05:48Yeah, you are.
05:49So, but this bourbon I'm so proud of.
05:52It's so good.
05:53Well played.
05:53Well done.
05:54It's a strawberry basil bourbon smash, essentially, with the Bradshaw flagship.
05:57A couple more of these ones.
05:59Oh, my God.
05:59I don't know the regards.
06:02No, thanks so much.
06:03We always love when you're here.
06:04Well, I'll be back next week.
06:06I got nothing to do.
06:08Well, we'll have you.
06:10All right.
06:10Still to come this morning, Millie Alcock and Eve Ridley are here to tell us.
06:13We're going to be able to read.
06:16We are so excited to welcome our next guest to Studio 1A, making their big screen debuts
06:21in one of the summer's most anticipated movies, Supergirl.
06:24You're really excited.
06:25Supergirl's pup, Krypto, and take on a dangerous villain.
06:28Take a look.
06:31All right.
06:31You talked earlier about all the stunts that you had to do.
06:34Yes.
06:34Eve, you were in a lot of action scenes.
06:36Is it true that you didn't know any time?
06:38And, Millie, I hear that David Cornswit, who played Superman, warned you of the brink.
06:42Yeah, this is getting really nice and pepled, but, yeah, I mean, it's all kind of part
06:47of the job.
06:47Really cool, this dynamic between the two of you.
06:51As the film goes on.
06:53So, Eve, there's the villain in the...
06:56Yeah, you're like, remember...
06:57You grew up in Australia.
06:58Yeah.
06:58This is your first feature film, but a lot of folks probably know you from the Game of
07:02Thrones prequel.
07:03I heard recently that after season one, you actually applied for, like, a regular job.
07:08Yeah.
07:08I didn't know that.
07:09Yeah, I think it's applied to play.
07:10You could act like a baker.
07:11I would tend to be a baker.
07:12I can use the till.
07:13Yeah.
07:14Yeah.
07:14Well, we're glad you didn't take the baking jam.
07:15Yeah, yeah.
07:16Eve, I heard you kind of had a little side gig on set, making...
07:19After tutoring.
07:21Yeah.
07:21After some hard scenes.
07:23Huh?
07:23Is it everything you thought it would be?
07:24It's everything I thought we'd like to...
07:26Oh, these are amazing.
07:27Yes.
07:27I'm a weatherman.
07:29You're a weatherman.
07:30You guys are so great.
07:31Thank you so much for being here.
07:32Oh, thank you.
07:32It was terrific.
07:33Thanks for the bracelet.
07:33Congratulations on everything.
07:34Supergirl flies into theaters and IMAX nationwide this Friday, June 26th.
