00:01Out front next, the United States prepares a new offensive against Al-Qaeda.
00:05Plus, will she or won't she?
00:07Hillary Clinton, Robert Reich, a man who's known her since she was 19 years old,
00:11reacts to our CNN interview today and tells us about a date he had with her.
00:17And Apple will launch a new iPad with a very different price tag.
00:20Let's go out front.
00:31Good evening, everyone. I'm Erin Burnett.
00:33Out front tonight, attack of the drones.
00:35The American government is launching a new war.
00:37Some of this country's 7,500 drones may be about to take off with new targets in their sights.
00:44Today, Niger's ambassador to the United Volkswagen Super Bowl ad, funny or offensive.
00:49The automaker released the ad early, and it's already getting hit with accusations that it's racist
00:53because it features white actors with Jamaican accents.
00:57Take a look.
00:57Respect, Bosman.
00:58And that Jamaican joyride did not go over well with the New York Times.
01:01Columnist Charles Blow, here is what he had to say about it this morning on CNN's Starting Point.
01:06All right, out front tonight, Roland Martin, Raihan Salam.
01:08Hey, hey. Good to be here.
01:10Okay.
01:11Yeah, you're both, you know, you're both people of color.
01:14I know, just be careful.
01:15This is a tightsy, touchy subject.
01:17This is a touchy subject.
01:18It's like I'm scared.
01:18I don't even know what to ask.
01:20Oh, my God.
01:21It's about women.
01:22All right.
01:22You find it racist, Roland?
01:23No, actually, it was funny.
01:24I'm sorry.
01:25I don't know what Charles Blow is talking about.
01:26Seriously, it could be racist.
01:27Something could simply be funny.
01:30There is.
01:30So here's, well, one thing I want to say.
01:32Then we actually can't be a real mixed melting pot multicultural society.
01:37Right.
01:37And the thing in this ad is be offensive.
01:39And you simply might say, well, that's offensive.
01:41But so sensitive, though.
01:42I mean, it's like you can't sit down as a woman.
01:44Okay.
01:45Let me just talk.
01:45Because I don't want to get race makes me nervous.
01:47It's not my right.
01:48All right.
01:48Woman.
01:49People make jokes about women.
01:50And some people go, oh, my gosh, you're not a feminist.
01:53It's crazy.
01:54Stereotypical things about women.
01:55Oh, you want to talk it out all the time.
01:56You know what?
01:57Sometimes it's funny.
01:58But also.
01:59And sometimes it's grounded in truth.
02:00And that's why stereotypes are something to acknowledge at times.
02:03But also, there are things, though, if we want to be honest, there are things.
02:06There's a reason for that.
02:07And the reason for that is this.
02:08The reason for that is simple.
02:09When there's this issue of accents.
02:11I want to play some ads.
02:12And viewers, listen to this.
02:13Right.
02:13Because this shows how the world has changed.
02:14This is a 1989 ad from Poliner Jelly.
02:19Uh-oh.
02:20Okay.
02:21Okay.
02:21Southern accent.
02:22So that he's the stupid, clearly the stupid guy who doesn't have any manners.
02:25No, no, no, no.
02:25That's what it read to me.
02:26Not necessarily the stupid.
02:27Here's the deal.
02:28When we were in the newsroom, I brought this dog on Jelly.
02:30I mean, you get, it's funny.
02:33And it gets, New Jersey.
02:34I mean, that's what it is.
02:36And so we can't get up.
02:37Get so upset about Jersey Shore.
02:39It is a kind of a reverse snobbery thing where it's saying that the text, see, you push my buttons,
02:43Aaron.
02:44Uh-oh.
02:44You push my buttons.
02:45Uh-oh.
02:46So I think that one of the issues is.
02:48Does seem to demean.
02:49Oh, right.
02:49When that case also looked, you could find plenty of Chinese.
02:51And it goes to, what are you trying to say?
02:53Black guy, white female.
02:55What's conveying a whole different message than be happy, drive a VW.
03:00Yep.
03:00And you know what, VW?
03:02I think they're a winner.
03:03You know why?
03:05Because we're playing it.
03:06Because everyone around the country is going to play this.
03:07People are going to talk about it.
03:08And that means more Volkswagen sold.
03:09But at least we can have a conversation about it.
03:11So that's the good thing.
03:11And so.
03:12But next time I want to see you rock the ass.
03:13What is it?
03:14Viva Fafra Nugan or whatever their name is.
03:16I have no idea.
03:17Fafra Nugan.
03:17Fafra Nugan.
03:18Fafra Nugan.
03:19Yes.
03:19I've got a tattooed across my chest.
03:20I'm from Texas.
03:21Just call it a VW.
03:24Let us know what you think of the Volkswagen ad.
03:26Go to our blog, please.
03:26CNN.com slash out front.
03:28And we have an online poll for you.
03:30All right.
03:30Still to come.
03:30Americans stocking up on supplies.
03:32People thrown in jail.
03:33How the Super Bowl has turned into something I found absolutely horrific.
03:37And so would Mark Haynes.
03:39A chicken apocalypse.
03:40Uh-oh.
03:43All right.
03:44The Super Bowl is just days away.
03:45And all anyone seems to be talking about is not even the game and, you know, the brothers
03:49that are going to coach the two teams, but about chicken.
03:51Last week, a report from the National Chicken Council.
03:54Simply not true.
03:55There is plenty of chicken to go around.
03:56Don't worry.
03:56Chicken wing prices have skyrocketed to their highest levels in history.
04:00And two nervous football fans in Georgia were arrested.
04:03I couldn't help think of one person.
04:06Mark Haynes.
04:07The average American eats 19 chickens a year.
04:10That may make you look at your stomach in a strange way, but I did the math and I eat
04:14a staggering 26 chickens a year.
04:17That is a lot.
04:18I grew up in chicken country.
04:20And while I love chickens just like Mark Haynes, they are not only sweet avians, they are healthy
04:25for humans.
04:26Still, I am cutting back.
04:28Piers Morgan Tonight is next.
