00:00But let's go out front.
00:04And good evening, I'm Erin Burnett.
00:06Out front tonight, the breaking news.
00:07Iran mocking Trump in a post just now.
00:10The lead nuclear negotiator, the speaker of Iran's parliament,
00:14in a new post tonight, dismissing the president's naval blockade
00:18in the Strait of Hormuz.
00:19Writing about Trump's decision to block this post
00:22from Mr. Kolobov coming just after Trump
00:24patted himself on the back for his blockade.
00:28Of course, obviously, details matter, right,
00:31in ships that have evaded the blockade.
00:33But Trump made that comment right after speaking
00:36to Vladimir Putin on the phone for an hour and a half.
00:39Trump really didn't say much about the call at all.
00:41It's a really long call. It's a really important call.
00:44We don't get readouts anymore.
00:45Trump says Putin offered to help end his war in Iran.
00:48Now, keep in mind, that is the same Vladimir Putin
00:50who, according to sources, provided Tehran
00:52with specific intelligence on striking American targets
00:54to kill American soldiers.
00:56Now, the phone call between Putin and Trump took place
00:58on the same day Trump's defense secretary
01:00faced blistering questioning on Capitol Hill
01:03about Trump's 61-day war with Iran.
01:07Congressman Moulton, I appreciate your time
01:08and thank you very much.
01:10Good to see you, Erin.
01:11All right, you too.
01:12And next, Trump celebrating a Supreme Court ruling
01:14that strikes down a part of the Voting Rights Act,
01:17a crucial part, and could increase the odds
01:19of Republicans keeping the House.
01:21Plus, the name of one of the world's highest-paid magicians,
01:24David Copperfield, appears many times in the Epstein files.
01:27What do we know about Copperfield and Epstein?
01:30And Trump defending his Justice Department's decision
01:33to indict James Comey,
01:34insisting anyone who knows anything about crime
01:36knows 86 means to kill somebody.
01:38Goodman, Schneider, Deary,
01:40who knew Comey from his time at the FBI,
01:42they're all on deck.
01:43They're coming out.
01:44Here they come.
01:45It's like a phalanx over there.
01:48All right, break cameras, two and three.
01:51Erin needs a new B-1.
01:52Standby.
01:53Break in three, two, one.
01:55Effect.
01:56Roy, break, please.
01:56Master.
01:58Breaking news.
01:59President Trump defending his DOJ's indictment
02:01of former FBI Director James Comey
02:03for allegedly threatening the provincial practice
02:05by weighing in on his own DOJ's indictment
02:08of one of his top political enemies.
02:09He spoke about it.
02:12Now, Trump's comments coming moments
02:13after Comey surrendered to law enforcement in Virginia
02:16using a side entrance, turned himself in,
02:18also faced a judge for the first time in the case
02:20during a brief hearing that lasted less than 10 minutes.
02:23Now, Comey never spoke.
02:24He didn't enter a plea,
02:25though he was allowed to go home without any conditions.
02:27And everyone's here with me now.
02:28So, Gary, let me just start with you
02:30because you've known James Comey for a very long time.
02:32You worked for him at the FBI
02:34the entire time he was there, right?
02:36So you know who he is.
02:39President Trump repeatedly calling him a dirty cop.
02:42So I guess everybody knows that 86ing somebody
02:45is killing them.
02:45By the way, it can mean that,
02:46but it also can mean to get rid of, to cancel,
02:49and that's why there's merchandising 86, 45, 46, and 47.
02:54So I guess a lot of people would be threatening
02:56to kill several presidents.
02:58Did this all ring true to you, what you hear him saying?
03:03It's troubling, but...
03:04Really never.
03:04And this is important, I think,
03:05in the context of what an FBI director would see
03:08when he saw that, which is what Trump is saying.
03:10You're saying that in your role in law enforcement,
03:1235 years and at the FBI,
03:14you never heard of Dyson,
03:15that it is obviously used to say,
03:17to cancel, get rid of, void, impeach, whatever.
03:19Impeach, actually, is how it's used
03:21in cases with presidents many times.
03:24You heard Trump didn't definitively say
03:28that he believed Comey put his life in danger.
03:30He said probably.
03:32Does that affect the case?
03:34It does.
03:35If I were in the defense,
03:36it's probably, I don't know,
03:38yeah, that actually suggests
03:39that it's not perceived as the threat,
03:40as everybody knows.
03:41James Comey wasn't aware
03:43of what the actual indictment said.
03:45Right.
03:45Because that other point is a point,
03:46but it's not the point they made,
03:48which is hugely significant, Stacey.
03:50As you're a longtime criminal defense attorney,
03:52you know Trump, obviously, well.
03:54You were on The Apprentice.
03:55So Todd Blanche, who's the acting attorney general,
03:57under whom all of these charges were brought
03:59that Trump had wanted brought before,
04:01and they were not.
04:02So we're almost a year post this post of 86-47.
04:08Here's what Blanche said,
04:09defending the indictment overall.
04:11Here he is.
04:13What do you make of that?
04:13Well, that was a real sidestep.
04:15The question was about
04:16what proves announcing the indictment.
04:18And a reporter at trending searches today
04:20after the indictment
04:21was whether Comey is a Democrat or a Republican.
04:24And it's just interesting
04:25because Trump today also accused Comey
04:27of trying to cheat in elections
04:29and trying to help Hillary Clinton,
04:30which is actually a pretty incredible thing to say,
04:33given the impact that Comey's announcement
04:36of Hillary Clinton had on that race, right?
04:38I don't think anybody would say
04:39it helped Hillary Clinton.
04:41When you worked with him,
04:43did you ever see,
04:44I mean, you're saying you didn't ever see him
04:45be political.
04:46Political that would have indicated anything?
04:49Listen, the executives,
04:50one of his quotes that stuck with me was,
04:52in my experience, yes.
04:53And by the way,
04:54I think it's important what you said.
04:55You didn't agree with everything you did.
04:56Maybe a lot of things you didn't agree.
04:57You think this case is going nowhere.
04:59And in fact,
04:59that the lawyers who are bringing it
05:01could end up being disbarred.
05:02I mean, this is serious, serious business.
05:05But one of the reasons
05:06that you think it's going nowhere
05:07is a Supreme Court case
05:08that goes all the way back to Lyndon Johnson.
05:11What do you mean?
05:12So it's actually a land...
05:13Jonathan Turley, obviously,
05:14incredibly respected.
05:15a legal expert,
05:16also a Fox News top legal analyst,
05:18a conservative,
05:19to state the obvious.
05:20You know,
05:21he was a GOP witness
05:21in Trump's impeachment.
05:24He called this out.
05:26Andrew Napolitano,
05:27who's a Newsmax expert,
05:29conservative,
05:30also called this out.
05:32It's hard to find anybody who isn't.
05:34I know.
05:35And, you know,
05:35I would urge any lawyer,
05:38a criminal defense lawyer,
05:39if I offended people,
05:41I'm taking this down,
05:42and I did it.
05:43To make it out,
05:44I appreciate it.
05:44And next,
05:45one of the most important
05:46Senate primaries in the country
05:47upended
05:48after an exclusive
05:49K-File report
05:50that you are going to hear
05:52thousands of tweets
05:54from a top contender
05:55deleted.
05:56K-File, though,
05:57found them.
05:58Plus,
05:58President Trump
05:59celebrating a Supreme Court ruling
06:00that weakens
06:01the Voting Rights Act.
06:02Van Jones,
06:02Charlie Dent
06:03are here next.
06:06and Charlie coming in.
06:07Stand by your break,
06:08Master.
06:08Here we go.
06:09Three, two,
06:11effect.
06:11Roll your break, please, Master.
06:14Breaking news.
06:15President Trump's celebrating
06:16after the Supreme Court ruled
06:18against a key part
06:19of the landmark
06:19Voting Rights Act,
06:20a ruling that could help
06:21Republicans keep the House.
06:23Here's the moment
06:24Trump heard the news.
06:26where a third of the population
06:27is black.
06:28It is an epic nationwide battle
06:30that this is a part of
06:31between Republicans
06:31and Democrats
06:32over redistricting,
06:34not in the normal time frame,
06:35redistricting in the middle
06:36of a decade,
06:37and it could determine
06:38who wins the midterms.
06:39And so this ruling
06:40is now up front and center
06:41because precedent matters.
06:42Up front now,
06:43former Republican
06:43Congressman Charlie Dent.
06:44This is a blow
06:45to the landmark
06:45Voting Rights Act,
06:47and the president
06:48obviously celebrating it
06:49because it's a win
06:50for Republicans
06:51to get more House seats, right?
06:52How big is this moment?
06:55I think it's huge.
06:56I think it's devastating.
06:57It's the end of an era.
06:58This is the bill
06:59that John Lewis
07:01was beaten almost today
07:03because these states,
07:04I'm a southerner,
07:05I grew up in Tennessee.
07:06These states still
07:07lie to that
07:08not just history
07:09of discrimination,
07:10but the present tense
07:11of it, not good.
07:12And the implications,
07:15I mean,
07:15you're talking about
07:16something obviously
07:18existential in many ways.
07:19The implications,
07:20practically,
07:21congressmen,
07:22are such that
07:23could actually affect
07:24the way these midterms
07:25go.
07:25It's been quite a while
07:26where if you looked
07:27at any betting market
07:28or polls or whatever,
07:29when it comes to the House,
07:30never mind the Senate,
07:31but the House,
07:32Democrats had a huge advantage.
07:33That could shift, right?
07:34You're seeing this happening
07:35in state after state,
07:37and you had Marsha Blackburn today.
07:39She is now calling
07:40for the elimination of...
07:42Tonight,
07:42exclusive reporting
07:43from CNN's K-File,
07:45upending one of the most watched
07:46Senate primary races
07:48in America,
07:48a race which could determine
07:50party control of the Senate.
07:52Democrats in Michigan
07:53are determined
07:53to hold the seat,
07:54but their primary
07:55has now been disrupted
07:55after K-File uncovered
07:57thousands of tweets,
07:58old tweets,
07:59quietly deleted
08:00by one of the leading candidates,
08:01state lawmaker Mallory McMurro,
08:03including messages
08:04disparaging the state
08:05she now wants to represent.
08:07So K-File's Andrew Kaczynski
08:08joins me now
08:09and is upending
08:10a very, very crucial race.
08:11So you went through
08:12thousands of these
08:14deleted tweets
08:15by McMurro.
08:16I mean,
08:17what did you find?
08:18Well, look,
08:18first off,
08:19this is a must-win
08:20Senate race for Democrats.
08:21It's must-win
08:22because this is one
08:23of two states
08:23in 2026
08:25that are up
08:25that are in...
08:26Breaking news
08:27in a major turn of events
08:28tonight.
08:29Former Attorney General
08:30Pam Bondi
08:31will now testify
08:32before Congress
08:33on the Justice Department's
08:34handling of the Epstein files.
08:36Now, this move,
08:37it's a big one,
08:38comes just after Democrats
08:39filed contempt charges
08:40against Bondi
08:41for refusing to testify
08:42at a previously scheduled
08:44committee deposition.
08:45This comes as the Epstein files
08:46are revealing new details
08:47about Jeffrey Epstein's
08:49relationships
08:49with celebrity magicians
08:51David Blaine
08:52and David Copperfield.
08:53Now, neither Blaine
08:54or Copperfield
08:55have been accused
08:55of criminal wrongdoing
08:56related to Epstein,
08:57but M.J. Lee tonight
08:58is out front
08:59with new details
09:00on how close they were.
09:03All right, M.J.,
09:04thanks very much,
09:05and I guess that final performance
09:06is supposed to be tomorrow.
09:07Thanks so much for joining us.
09:09AC 360 with Anderson
09:10begins right now.
