00:00Let's go out front.
00:03And good evening, I'm Erin Burnett.
00:05And out front tonight, the breaking news.
00:07It is a major test this hour of Trump's power over his own party.
00:11It is 7.01 Eastern and polls are just closing across the state of Indiana.
00:16That is where Trump is vowing revenge on seven Republican lawmakers who dared to defy him.
00:22How did they do that?
00:23Well, they voted against his redistricting map in December.
00:27And that handed Trump his most embarrassing political defeat of his second term to date.
00:32So he got involved to try to get them out.
00:35His attempts to redraw the House maps failed because of those defiant Republicans.
00:39They were targeted even with death threats as a result of this.
00:42But Trump hasn't forgotten that they stood up to him.
00:44His allies then poured millions of dollars to back their challengers in tonight's election.
00:50And for good measure, Trump tweeted today against those members of his own party.
00:53He said, it's obviously way bigger than about a redistricting fight that Trump lost.
00:59The results are going to reveal a lot.
01:01A lot about whether Trump, when he wants revenge and is going to take on people in his own party
01:05and get him out, has the...
01:07Trump then tweeted, an incompetent and ineffective rhino incumbent.
01:11All right, so Adam, stay with me.
01:12I want to bring everyone in here.
01:14Gretchen, it is pretty incredible when you hear Adam.
01:16And we'll see how this goes.
01:17Maybe Trump wins some, loses some.
01:19It's unclear, right?
01:20We're going to watch these numbers, see if we can make any calls here this hour.
01:23But it is pretty stunning that they spent $13 million on races where these are Republican seats.
01:30It's actually really stunning.
01:32It's stunning, but it's Trump and it's vendetta is what we're expecting to hear, see in the midterms.
01:37But I do think, what I have is that this is a microcosm of the macrocosm of civil war within
01:43the GOP, as Adam's talking about.
01:45That this, whatever happens here, he said, you're not going to have people talking to each other after it.
01:50It's a pretty incredible thing.
01:52I mean, you're talking about a state, it's a Republican party, it's a Republican, it's a Republican.
01:55And now it's internecine warfare.
01:58Yeah, it is also classic authoritarian behavior.
02:02I mean, in order for him to truly, on a partisan basis, where legislators get to choose their voters instead
02:09of voters choosing.
02:11In swing house districts showing the president extremely unpopular.
02:14That we have, because now we've got all polls closed.
02:16As I said, two time zones in Indiana.
02:17They're eating their own, they're fighting amongst themselves.
02:20And I think it's reflective of what both parties.
02:22And here's what's interesting about Indiana, over 40% are independent.
02:25Adam, you know, back on the ground, I know you went door to door with some of the Republicans that
02:29Trump had targeted.
02:31How, what did voters say?
02:33You know, when they approached them and brought this up and, you know, introduced these Republican voters.
02:38How do the voters feel about the situation, right?
02:41That Trump wanted revenge against these individuals.
02:45And these, by the way, these people that are there, most of them have been elected again and again and
02:50again by Indiana Republican voters.
02:51They're not unknown to Indiana Republicans.
02:56It's just, it's really incredible that Trump has become the establishment.
02:59And when you talk about tests, you're saying this is just the start, Paul.
03:02Okay.
03:03Take a look, in two weeks you've got Thomas Massey.
03:05Okay.
03:06Now this is an extraordinary amount of political capital into defeating Massey.
03:09That is going to be something to watch, I mean, if Massey prevails.
03:12He has to, because in Nebraska you see Massey, they will either become the future of the Republican.
03:17Massey, there's a pro-Trump PAC that has been very involved in this race because Trump has put so much
03:21into it.
03:21I said personal political capital.
03:23They have a fake AI generated ad.
03:24They basically create a threesome essentially of Massey.
03:29A throupling.
03:30A throupling with members of the squad.
03:32Here it is.
03:34Amazing about this, Gretchen.
03:36Other than a throuple?
03:37Other than a throuple.
03:39A new word.
03:41Is that Thomas Massey's voted with Trump 91% of the time.
03:44The times that he hasn't have had to do with, well, Epstein wasn't even a vote.
03:49I mean, right, was...
03:50Trump told them to vote for it ultimately.
03:52Right, ultimately.
03:52So you can't even count that one.
03:55But, you know, when you talk about Iran and deficit.
03:59But that's what Trump's spending his time on, on a guy who's voted with him 91% of the time.
04:03By the way, he's taking him on for not wars because that was one of the main platforms of getting
04:08Trump re-elected.
04:09So it's ironic.
04:11Then he also agreed with that and told Republicans to vote for it.
04:14Right, right.
04:14So this whole thing, and by the way, the AI thing.
04:17We had to add.
04:18Paying attention and you had to be kind of a massive hangout.
04:20Who is a fascinating person, happens to be a billionaire GOP donor, as you mentioned.
04:25But you mentioned that he talked about that Republicans could lose the Senate.
04:28Here's what he said about it today.
04:30He refers to it as a political battleground.
04:32Okay, obviously he's got a dog in the fight.
04:35Interesting, though, that he was still confident.
04:38And Democrats have been, they have had a lot of swagger about taking the Senate.
04:42There's been a real shift.
04:43Are Democrats too confident?
04:44No, I don't think Democrats.
04:45But all of these people running for Senate are going to be well-positioned on the Democratic side.
04:50We'll see, and I'll thank you very much as we are watching these results just starting to come in in
04:55Indiana
04:55and see if we can make some calls and see where Trump fares on tonight out of the seven races
05:01where he has targeted the incumbents.
05:03We are just starting to get more and more results coming in.
05:06I'm going to talk to one of Trump's top targets.
05:08Breaking news tonight out of Ohio, Vivek Ramaswamy.
05:10Remember him, the former presidential candidate?
05:12Well, he's hoping to win the Republican primary for governor.
05:15He's poured a lot of money into this race.
05:17He has Trump's blessing.
05:18Big numbers coming in this hour.
05:20We'll see if there's a call there.
05:22And breaking news with a cargo ship purportedly struck in the Strait of Hormuz
05:25as we're learning that Trump's claims of obliterating Iran's nuclear capabilities do not necessarily add up.
05:33And to solve four, guests are clear.
05:35We can take them out.
05:37Break cameras, one, two, and three.
05:40Four, you're clear.
05:41In three, two, one, effect.
05:43Roll your break, please, master.
05:46Tonight, Elizabeth Smart, like you've never seen her before.
05:49I mean, you may have seen some of these pictures recently on social media.
05:52They stop you in your tracks.
05:54She's 38 years old now and is an award-winning bodybuilder.
05:59That's who she is now.
06:00Obviously different than what the world saw when she was a young girl.
06:03She was abducted at age 14 and held for nine months.
06:07Taken in the dead of night, the only witness, her nine-year-old sister.
06:11The story struck fear in the hearts of parents everywhere.
06:14Now, Elizabeth was found after a horrific ordeal, incomprehensible.
06:19She was raped and starved and abused, rescued when witnesses recognized her in public with her captors.
06:25And she is here with us now, Elizabeth Smart.
06:27But obviously, you know, so many of us, when I see you and I see you now and I, your
06:33face, everybody knows your face.
06:35Everybody in this country knows your face.
06:37And chips, cake.
06:40Which is hard when you've got this bodybuilding, like going to Orange Theory and getting stronger.
06:44I mean, you're competing.
06:46Yeah.
06:47So I...
06:48Talk about loving your body.
06:49And you, when you first posted the pictures of yourself bodybuilding, you posted with them this.
06:55You wrote, my body has carried me through, if you human beings can comprehend.
07:00What does it mean?
07:01How empowering is it to you to walk out on a stage and to share and to...
07:06Every heart experience I went through day in and day out, it showed up for me.
07:10And so now for me...
07:12New podcast with iHeart where you talk to other survivors, of people who have gone through things that almost no
07:18one can imagine except for them.
07:19And that's why you're talking to them.
07:21And you've gotten a lot of messages of support after your post.
07:24Someone posted it mean to you?
07:26I was very...
07:27You were using it.
07:28I was using my married name, yeah.
07:31And so I really was like, oh, should I do this?
07:33Should I do it for so long?
07:35What if it changes how people perceive me?
07:38What if it suddenly makes my words less valid?
07:40And just sitting there thinking that, I was like, those are the exact same reasons why victims go after the
07:47perpetrator and nothing ever happens to that person.
07:49And I just end up looking like a liar.
07:51That one thing, separate from all of this, I was just thinking about it with, well, it's been months and
07:58maybe the worst has happened.
08:01And you came back and here you are.
08:04There's new surveillance footage.
08:06There's, you know, everyone's wondering what could possibly have happened with Nancy Guthrie.
08:11Do you think there's any chance, and I know, obviously, I'm not asking this forensically or anything, but because you
08:17had been through a time where maybe in your own mind you didn't know if you were going to live,
08:23right, to be gone for so long, do you think it's possible that she could still have gotten through it?
08:30Absolutely.
08:30Could still be alive.
08:32I mean, of course, there is the alternative, but...
08:36All right.
08:37Well, Elizabeth, thank you so much.
08:38It's a pleasure to meet you, and thank you so much for talking all about it.
08:42And thanks so much to all of you for being with us.
08:44AC360 starts now.
09:36We'll see you next time.
