00:00let's get dangerous with him he joins us right now hello daryl hello boys it's good to talk to
00:05you good to see you good to hear you um first off jarvis landry continues to go after kevin
00:11stefanski lima is in battle mode with several listeners online so i'll be the first one to ask
00:15you your thoughts on jarvis landry's continued comments i know you and i broke it down a little
00:20bit on friday or maybe thursday but your thoughts on the continued comments the continued barbs
00:27being uh being used by jarvis landry at uh at kevin stefanski yeah i don't know what the the
00:35motivation behind all this is um you know kevin is no longer here um we we all remember though
00:44the fallout that occurred with odell beckham jr and baker mayfield here and that was obviously under
00:52kevin stefanski so uh you know um and we know landry and beckham are good friends so you know
00:59i i don't know if that's uh you know part of the motivation behind all this but um clearly uh
01:06jarvis landry not a kevin stefanski fan but you know what we kind of learned a lot of players were
01:11not kevin stefanski fans considering he got the lowest grade on that nfl pa survey of any head
01:17coach in the national football league so um if you're an atlanta falcon fan right now i think
01:22you're hoping that jarvis landry steps away from a microphone as quickly as possible because um you
01:28know landry is just out there leaving bodies everywhere and stefanski's the victim leaving
01:33bodies wow daryl i i just see a guy who was cut and you know his career ended up pretty
01:39much falling
01:39apart after that he just seems to be bitter that's what i see and what were those grades after the
01:43browns made the playoffs do we know how did players feel about kevin when you know he was
01:48winning coach of the year yeah well and and that's the thing right if you win everybody's happy and
01:54everything is good when you lose everything is awful the food tastes terrible all those things right
01:59so um and i i think that that has a lot of influence uh over um perspectives and um views
02:11of
02:11history the alex van pelt stuff call and plays that was a little newsworthy because i never once heard
02:18a single peep about alex van pelt call and plays for the cleveland browns so um you know you have
02:26to
02:26take jarvis at his word because he obviously be on the room or whatnot but i never heard of avp
02:32call
02:32and plays uh when he was here i already found what we're going to talk about at 8 45 yeah
02:39i do know
02:39that's when we would have a chance to talk to kevin daryl uh kevin echoed my sentiments which was
02:45play calling is so overrated it's something that fans and media get worked up into a tizzy they like
02:51to think of you're either a good play caller or you're a bad play caller when i i think there
02:55are
02:55guys that have proven over time they're good play callers but i think most of the league it's it's not
03:01the it's not the plays you're calling it's what you work on all week it's the talent you have it's
03:05the quarterback you have that that trumps the play calling 99 of the time i'm making a note of this
03:11right now uh march 23rd 8 26 a.m anthony lima says play calling does not matter i i am
03:21going to remind
03:22you of that in mid-october if things are not going so well for the monkey men good well i
03:29i'll probably
03:30most likely if it's not working for the monkey men i will be you will be very unhappy with the
03:35play
03:35no i think i'll be unhappy with the players i think that is most likely going to be my target
03:41we'll we'll see who gets the wrath of lima come october well you are he's surly over there today i
03:47enjoy okay i i got a question for you here tone or not tone daryl over the last couple of
03:54days
03:55monroe freeling has bounced up and down the draft board right now would you be willing to trade down
04:00and take monroe freeling at like 12 or something like that as was was bandied about on the station over
04:05the last couple of days would you be willing to go up there at six or if you're not willing
04:09to take
04:09him at six and you're not willing to take him at 12 is he just off your board altogether no
04:14i mean
04:15he's he's definitely on my board because he's a natural left tackle um you know i would not have
04:20an issue with a a slight trade down um i don't know if i'd say 12 it would register as
04:29a slight trade
04:30down i'd like the browns to stay in the top 10 but i do kind of feel like when it
04:35comes to the off
04:36the left tackle and uh wide receiver selections in the draft can um you know uh just you know looking
04:45at that group right now there seems to be a bigger separation in the top tackles in this class uh
04:52than
04:53the receivers like there's there doesn't seem to be a varying uh opinion of the receivers maybe from
05:01numbers two through eight or nine in this class like they're they're all very comparable and highly
05:08thought of whereas it feels like this tackle class there's the the the really good then there's a little
05:15gap and separation and then there's like the the next group so i i do kind of feel like um
05:22if that's
05:23the route andrew barry goes right um if he if he doesn't go best player on the board at six
05:29and and
05:31doesn't take a uh you know a defender there um i kind of feel like tackle should come first and
05:38then
05:38get your wide receiver uh at number 24 and you know obviously andrew's got the flexibility to move
05:45up and down the board uh at will but i'm leaning more towards taking the left tackle first taking
05:52your wide receiver uh second in that first round daryl does it matter whether or not when you take
05:59a player at number six whether that player is ready to play day one because what's so interesting
06:05about this particular prospect if you're going to put him in you know draft a tackle at number six
06:11is that everybody seems to say he has a ceiling that could be you know a really really big time
06:19player he's just not necessarily ready week one should that matter the browns were supposed to be
06:23bad this year uh well i mean rookies are never finished products right um i am of the view that
06:30both of the first round picks uh need to be ready to play in week one mostly though out of
06:38uh necessity
06:39but i don't i don't know how you can take a player in the top 10 and he's not ready
06:43to play week one
06:44i that that is and even in like the first round like that to me is a little bit of
06:51a fail if you draft
06:52a player and he is not able uh to play week one and not because of injury but i'm talking
06:59you know
06:59talent which is i think what you're getting at anthony um i for me that's that that's a little
07:05problematic like we're not drafting projects in uh with first round picks okay uh no you you need
07:13to be able to contribute in my view from week one is a high first round pick daryl you said
07:19you'd
07:19rather take you so you take the offensive lineman at six and then you take a wide receiver at 24
07:23well with the with the first selection whether it's six or there they slide down a couple spots
07:29which i look i i think it's a very high probability that andrew berry uh slides down
07:36a few spots i mean i think it's not a very well kept secret that he is absolutely open for
07:43business
07:43at number six so let me ask you this then i'll ask you what daryl or uh what uh keith
07:49always wants
07:49to ask us daryl what's stopping them from drafting two wide receivers in the first round he said why
07:55wouldn't you draft two wide receivers in the first round well i i think that uh because the tackle
08:01class being what it is uh and you know they they have you know three or four guys that are
08:11on one
08:11level and then there's a gap and that and and and a drop off and then you get into guys
08:17that that need
08:18some work and so for me i i i don't want the guys that need the work i i want
08:25the guys that are ready
08:26to go from day one so that that's what would stop me um we saw him double up on two
08:32position groups last
08:33year with uh the the quarterback and the running back right uh shooter sanders dylan gabriel uh
08:39quinshawn judkins and and uh dylan sampson i think this year um and i talked about this yesterday
08:47on my show i think there's a real possibility they doubled up again now i don't know that they
08:53do in the same round but i think two wide receivers and two offensive linemen are going to be part
08:59of
08:59those nine selections that the browns make um also too i could see uh offensive linemen you know your
09:07left tackle with your first selection wherever that ends up and then you go back to back with your
09:12receivers um you know at 24 and then your second round pick which right now is number 39 i could
09:21i
09:21could see a scenario play out like that can so okay um but um yeah that i i think that's
09:28kind of where
09:29i'm at because they they absolutely have to get one of the top tier tackles in this draft class that
09:37that is a must have and again i think you can get you can still get a tremendous wide receiver
09:44with that number 24 pick and you can still get a very good receiver at 39 or even number 70
09:52kenny's smarting a little bit as he's weighing your thoughts the gravity of your thoughts well
09:58because i'm thinking best player available at number six like everybody else probably would be and then
10:03i'm thinking about andrew barry's history of drafting wide receivers you know the later i go
10:07into the draft the less likely it is that he's going to be able to draft a good one so
10:11that's that's
10:12kind of where i disagree i have to disagree with darryl because it ain't me and him making the pick
10:15it's my lack of trust that i have for the guy actually making the pick why i have to i
10:19have to
10:20disagree with darryl i hate to say it sorry you don't mean to be a problem no no for me
10:24though here's
10:25the thing though okay and those picks are in the third the fourth the fifth the sixth rounds right
10:31the the david bells and the donovan peoples joneses and the cedric tillmans right those are later
10:38round picks and because receiver is such a need i don't want andrew barry waiting for that hey let's
10:46just throw a little something something against the wall and we're going to develop this guy into
10:50something right i uh you know i actually would be more comfortable if andrew barry took the wide
10:55receiver or wide receivers early in the draft because i think there's a better chance that
11:02he's going to hit on those guys rather than waiting to get that quote-unquote value uh at that
11:09particular position later in the draft because you're right he hasn't been good drafting these
11:14receivers right and so for me better chance of getting the hits uh early in the draft rather than
11:21uh later uh are we doing anything else at quarterback or is this quarterback room going to be the room
11:27once uh we get training camp underway well they'll add a fourth body um it it doesn't seem like they're
11:35going to add someone in free agency right now but hey we've gotten into late march early april and
11:41they've you know made a qb move so you can't rule it out but i mean i i hope that
11:49it's not
11:50shador sanders v deshaun watson but it sure is looking and sounding that way but they're going
11:57to add a fourth body whether that again a free agent a minor trade uh they draft another project
12:06which frankly i think you ought to work on the two projects you already have but that's just me
12:10or an undrafted free agent that becomes your your extra offseason slash training camp arm because you
12:18need four quarterbacks in the offseason so they're going to add somebody we're just all i think on
12:23pins and needles hoping begging praying that uh it's something of relevance and significance so
12:30we're not uh sitting watching deshaun watson and shador sanders slug this thing out in training camp
12:37for that job there was flag football that ended up being on my tv on saturday you watched that no
12:43it
12:43just ended up being on the tv by accident apparently yeah um well i we had friends over
12:49one of my friends turned on the golf i went downstairs i came up flag football was on
12:54i didn't pay much attention to it i'm kind of going blind into this apparently tom brady looked really
12:59good yeah he did so yeah lima said or uh owen said daryl that you would what you would take
13:06tom
13:06brady for a one-off say that i said well i said if it was one game right now i'd
13:10take it yeah one
13:11game i'd take tom brady did he look good enough to tape to be able to do a one-off
13:15game uh well i i
13:19didn't watch i only watched the highlights that were being posted on social media uh and you know
13:25his signature step through move was was still there yeah sure why not yeah we're the denver broncos when
13:31bo nix got hurt were you gonna yeah i i would totally make that phone call to see if he'd
13:37do
13:38it yeah i yeah for one for one game sure yeah yeah yeah i would yeah that is no problem
13:43all right
13:44daryl thank you very much for the time all the best you bet guys talk to you later the dangerous
