00:02Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:06His average finish is somewhere, I think it's 2.4, 2.5, something like that.
00:11So now would be a great time for Cooper Webb to check this one off the list,
00:16make up some points on Hunter Lawrence and Eli Tomac,
00:20because it's tough.
00:21It's tough to make up points, and where he's at right now,
00:25you don't want to lose too many more than that if you want to be in it at the end.
00:28Man, I can't wait for this qualifying session,
00:30but also cannot wait for the races live on Peacock tonight, 7 o'clock Eastern Time.
00:35It's going to be so much fun to watch, so much competition in the 250 class.
00:40They're looking for some bragging rights there,
00:41and this 450 class continues week after week after week to deliver great racing.
00:46Really curious on this first turn, though, Adam.
00:48Obviously, right-hand turn, we talk about it multiple times.
00:51When they have a right-hand first turn, you're not able to have your brake
00:54because it's on the right-hand side, but also really tight.
00:57All right, so in the 250 class, they've drifted way wide as Hunter Colt-Nichols
01:03could get his bike started right there.
01:04Yeah, he was kick-starting it here, but you see what Justin Cooper just did.
01:08Came into the corner as we see it crash as well.
01:10Eli Tomac gets held up.
01:11Looks like Christian Craig's on the ground.
01:14But Justin Cooper came into that corner super fast.
01:18Didn't quite get his breaking point right.
01:20Ended up pushing wide, and that's going to allow some guys to sneak underneath.
01:23Still comes out in a good spot there in second, but a lot of finesse to this start.
01:29You're going to have to get on the brakes early, and it's difficult when you're side-by-side
01:34with everybody trying to get to the first turn first.
01:36It's difficult to convince yourself to brake soon enough to hug the inside of the corner.
01:42So I'm excited for the racing tonight.
01:45I'm excited to see how these guys navigate that first turn.
01:49Absolutely.
01:50Hunter Lawrence on your screen.
01:51Justin Cooper's going to be a factor here tonight as well.
01:53Look, he qualified third fastest earlier today.
01:57He's already getting up there in the mix.
01:59I like to see this right away, these guys throwing down.
02:01Yeah, no doubt about it.
02:03Justin Cooper on the podium a few weeks ago, a couple weeks ago at Seattle,
02:07and you see him already working that jump line in the whoops.
02:10You know he's going to be going inside and doing that line all night long.
02:13And I think for someone like Jay Coop that tends to struggle a little bit
02:17in a technical set of whoops, knowing that you have the inside before the whoops right there
02:23in a nice solid jump line, that's going to allow him to free him up mentally a little bit.
02:28He has a game plan in the whoops, and he can focus on the rest of the track.
02:32And here's the most difficult part about Daytona.
02:34So they went out in Q1, a little bit wet.
02:37We got a lot of rain last night, nearly an inch of rain.
02:39Now the track has totally changed.
02:40They've taken out that inside berm right there.
02:42Now you're just going to have to create a rut.
02:44Then they're going to go out after Q2, prep it.
02:46It's going to be brand new for the heat races, so it's going to develop different.
02:49And then in the main event, it's going to be totally different.
02:51So you're on the track four times.
02:53You're going to see four totally different style of racetracks.
02:56Oh, you're completely correct, JV.
02:59You know this place.
03:00Like the back of your hand, it's just so difficult to dissect this racetrack.
03:05You have to be able to adapt to the changing conditions, to the lines.
03:10And Hunter Lawrence looks like he's having no problem doing that.
03:13Already he goes faster than he went in Q1 with a 116.7.
03:18Justin Cooper goes faster as well.
03:21Eli Tomac rolling around, checking out some different lines.
03:24You know he's going to throw some down.
03:26This is going to be so much fun.
03:27I love this time of the day, AC, where these guys are trying to throw down, get faster and faster
03:32each and every lap.
03:34Love what the sand section is bringing here today.
03:36RC's done a great job on this racetrack.
03:39A little bit of an easy layout, like he mentioned, a little bit more space for the track to develop.
03:44And I think it's going to make for a great racetrack later on tonight.
03:46I really do, too.
03:47And I love the inside, outside options.
03:50And a lot of times when we have any type of split lane in Supercross, one option ends up being
03:56far and away better than the other one.
03:57And everybody funnels to the same line.
03:59But what makes Daytona a little bit unique in the way that RC has designed this track, it's kind of
04:05a toss-up.
04:06Like we've seen in the whoops right there, Eli Tomac goes outside, skims.
04:10A lot of guys going inside, jumping.
04:12And you can kind of make both work.
04:13Like, so getting to see everybody and how they personally dissect the track to their liking, to me, as a
04:21dirt bike fan, that's what is the most fun for me to watch.
04:25Tomac there through the sand section.
04:27It's interesting because when we saw Drew Adams, he drifted way far left and then drifted to the right later
04:33than anyone, which made for a better angle.
04:36Tomac cut back a little bit early right there.
04:39He's going to clean that up.
04:41But how about that turn speed right there?
04:42Oh, I love seeing Eli Tomac break the rear end loose like that.
04:47Specifically, a lot of times at Daytona, in the bowl corners, you'll see some ruts there.
04:53And depending on how much rain we get or how soft it is, we'll see some ruts in the turns.
04:57But a lot of times, the dirt remains loose.
05:00And that's when guys that like to steer with the back end, I think of back in the day, someone
05:04like Orion Villopoto and this man you see on your screen,
05:08great at steering with the back, so good at modulating the power with the clutch.
05:12So I think this condition is where he really shines when it's not just ruts all over the track.
05:18Remember, we said Justin Cooper is going to be a factor.
05:20Look at the left side of your screen.
05:22115.9.
05:24Fastest guy here today so far.
05:26Ken Rocks in your 2025 Daytona Supercross winner.
05:30He's second right now.
05:30Hunter Lawrence.
05:31Ferrandez still up there from Q1 time with a 117.2.
05:35And how about Joey Savace?
05:37He has been great lately.
05:38It was unbelievable.
05:39That heat race in Arlington a week ago was incredible.
05:42Joey's getting more and more confidence on that quad lock Honda.
05:44But how about the 32?
05:45He's going for another lap.
05:48Two in a row.
05:49Backs it up.
05:50Did a 115.9 lap before.
05:52116.3.
05:55Doing both of those times back to back.
05:57It always feels good no matter what.
06:00If you're the fastest guy.
06:01But if you know that you can back it up.
06:03If you're comfortable enough to where that pace doesn't seem like it's riding over your head.
06:09That's a great spot to be as Hunter Lawrence goes to the top.
06:11That's what I said.
06:12No, no, Jay Coop.
06:13I'm still the best guy here.
06:14I got the red plate for a reason.
06:16I want to go on a win streak.
06:18And it started last week in Arlington.
06:21115.3 from Hunter Lawrence.
06:23These guys are going to continue to drop as Ken Rockson is on a fast lap right here.
06:29Let's see what he does.
06:30He's at a 116.1.
06:33Starting another one.
06:34Going right into another fast lap.
06:37Ken Rockson won this race last year.
06:39So you know the vibes are flowing.
06:41And I'm kind of interested.
06:43I haven't seen a lot of guys going inside and doing the skim line like that.
06:47But that's a crafty veteran move right there from Ken Rockson.
06:51It gets in the middle part of the woofs when there's a little V in there.
06:55Allows him to just drive forward.
06:56And I love what I'm seeing from the 94 right now.
06:59Well, I love that you mentioned the V right there.
07:00Look, a lot of guys messing that up.
07:03Shows how difficult it is.
07:04It shows how impressive Drew Adams was doing that section nice and clean in the 250 class
07:08after he qualified fastest.
07:10Kenny on a pretty good one right here.
07:12But I love that you mentioned through the woofs.
07:14So that's just a timing thing.
07:15You're not going to be able to do that when the track is fresh, right?
07:17Because the woofs are so big?
07:19Yeah, absolutely, no doubt.
07:21That line, Ken knows that in the main event when the track breaks down, he can go to that line.
07:27He's done enough where he's comfortable with it.
07:29But going out in the heat race, you make kind of a different game plan.
07:33You've got to wait around for the track to break down enough to do these lines he's doing right now.
07:40Let's see what this time is.
07:41He's fourth right now, 116.1.
07:43When Ferrandes went in the 115s, he went 115.9.
07:47That lap around was a 116.7 for Kenny.
07:50So it didn't beat his fastest lap as Cooper Webb is on screen.
07:54Let's see if he can nail this sand section.
07:55Made a little mistake in the turn.
07:58He does it.
07:59He launches it.
08:00That was nice.
08:00Yeah, and you see he was able, he got it so clean, he was able to kind of hop again,
08:05miss another bump in that section.
08:07I love this from Cooper Webb right now.
08:10And you just see in his riding this year, it's tough to tell because everyone else is riding so good.
08:16But he's riding with more intensity than I've seen him ride with in the past.
08:21You can just tell the aggression level, the sense of urgency is there for Cooper Webb.
08:27And every time we had Jett Lawrence come in to the premier class, we had Chase Sexton come in, the
08:33pace gets raised and raised and raised.
08:36And Cooper Webb has answered the bell time and time again.
08:41Hard to bet against the one.
08:44Cooper Webb, ninth right now, 117.0.
08:47That last lap around was a 117.4, so he doesn't go faster.
08:51One man that did go faster last lap around was Eli Tomac.
08:54He's in the 115s now with a 115.9.
08:58But how about this, man?
08:58He's been impressive all day long.
09:00And could this be the day that it gets turned around for Dylan Ferrandez here in Supercross?
09:06We know he's great in motocross.
09:07He's a past motocross champion.
09:09He's won two 250 Supercross championships.
09:12But in the 450 class, yet to really be a championship contender.
09:17Could be on the podium today.
09:19Looks to have the speed to do it.
09:20I think if you're Dylan Ferrandez right now, I think you've got to start small.
09:25You've got to have realistic expectations for yourself.
09:28Getting up here and qualifying is going to do a lot for his confidence.
09:31He knows he has the pace and the skill necessary to be a top five guy.
09:36But I think you start there.
09:38I think you try to get inside the top five.
09:40He's been right there at the bottom of the top ten.
09:43It seems like he's in ninth at the end of the main event every single time I look at the
09:47results.
09:47But there's definitely more there for the 14, and we might see it tonight.
09:51Absolutely.
09:52He's on a fast one right now.
09:54Haley, Dylan's looking good so far today.
09:55He's looking mighty good.
09:57And I just love seeing this, considering that Troy Lee designs Red Bull Ducati.
10:01It's their first year in Supercross.
10:02And speaking with team manager Josh Wisner, they said they have made leaps and bounds from these first seven rounds
10:08of Monster Energy Supercross with this motorcycle to a really sweet spot now that we're seeing with Dylan.
10:14They know the positions that he's been getting.
10:16They know he's capable of more.
10:17So when you have that motorcycle being able to meet the talent of that racer, and you're at the point
10:22where you want to continue to move forward with it, I like that sweet spot for Dylan Ferrandez.
10:26I think we're starting to really see that today.
10:29That last lap of the round was a 116.5.
10:32Thank you, Haley.
10:33Absolutely, Dylan, looking good so far today.
10:36And how about Dylan's results so far this year?
10:39Ninth at Anaheim 1, ninth again, 11th, 10th, 9th, 9th, 10th.
10:44So he's on pace to have the best day so far this season.
10:49This is another guy on the 17, had a crash in the main event last week and was still able
10:54to get to seventh.
10:55And we spoke to Joey a few weeks ago, and he said that's his sweet spot, trying to be in
11:00that 5-8 range.
11:02But what really stood out to me last week was his heat race.
11:06JB, he was so good, so fast.
11:09And I think it's all starting to happen for Joey.
11:12He's riding the best that I've seen in a very long time in this class.
11:16Absolutely.
11:17He's on a fast one right now.
11:18He's 8th, 116.6.
11:20Hunter Lawrence bested his time, or bettered his time from the 115.
11:24He said, I'm going 114.4 over a second faster than everybody.
11:29Wow.
11:30So we see Savace inside.
11:33Oh, he doubles out of that turn.
11:35That was nice from the low line.
11:38Oh, you see him just get a little bit hung up, still trying to make a lot of that turn
11:42on the exit, going into the sand.
11:45Just a tiny little mistake, but good lap so far from the 17th.
11:49Let's see if he can finish it.
11:50Now he's on the second half of the track right here.
11:52Does he go?
11:53He's going to go triple.
11:55Oh, comes up just a little bit short.
11:57Comes up a little short, but recovers pretty well.
12:00I think he was maybe trying to get to that inside, a little thinking on the fly, adjust the plan,
12:05went outside.
12:07Stays in that big rut.
12:08We've seen a lot of guys kind of hopping out on exit.
12:11That allows them to have a better radius going into the next right-hand corner.
12:16Just inside right there.
12:19And all those little acceleration bumps on exit with a supercross suspension on your bike.
12:25You can feel like you're in the woods riding.
12:30Joey Savace goes to P3, 115.7.
12:35Woo, he looks good.
12:36Wow.
12:36He's in the mix.
12:38Absolutely in the mix.
12:39I don't think I've seen anybody on my screen that hasn't looked good today.
12:43JB, these guys are hauling the mail.
12:45If you're Joey Savace, you qualify third.
12:47You had the heat race last week.
12:48Do you start to change your goals a little bit or just stay in that 5-8 range?
12:52That's the trap that you'd fall into is anytime you go out there and, you know, have a really good
12:58result,
12:59it's easy to adjust your expectations to expect more of yourself.
13:04But I think the way that he's been approaching the races is great to have that kind of realistic expectation
13:10for himself.
13:12And I think eventually over time he keeps progressing, keeps doing what he's doing.
13:16It's only natural for the expectation to change a little bit.
13:19But for now, I think the hardest thing is to keep doing what you're doing and not allow good results
13:27to affect your expectations.
13:28So he's got to remain disciplined and level-headed in this scenario.
13:32Man, look at that leaderboard right there.
13:34Hunter Lawrence on top, 114.4.
13:37Coming off that first Premier Class victory a week ago in Arlington, Eli Tomac in second.
13:44That's the man on that Red Bull KTM machine right there.
13:47Can he get his eighth win here at the Daytona Supergaz?
13:51His eighth win, I see a potential for tonight.
13:54Unbelievable.
13:55Well, there's so many storylines going into tonight.
13:58People that need to win.
14:01Of course, Eli Tomac and his success in this building.
14:04So whatever happens tonight, it's looking like it's going to be a great story.
14:09No doubt about it.
14:10He's feeling good, throwing a whip.
14:11That's good to see.
14:12Yeah, he's having a good time.
14:14This is the new and improved Eli Tomac that just loves to ride his motorcycle.
14:20Great day so far for the three.
14:21How about Hunter Lawrence on top?
14:23The only one in the 114 second range with a 114.4.
14:28Eli Tomac in second.
14:29How about Joey Savace in third?
14:31He hasn't qualified inside the top three since Salt Lake City in 2021.
14:36So you know he's feeling good on that quad lock Honda.
14:39And how about this?
14:40Cooper Webb, you see at the bottom of your screen there in 10th, 117.0.
14:45A little more than two and a half seconds off the pace of the lead.
14:48But I can tell you what, by the time the gate drops in the main event tonight, he is going
14:52to bridge that gap.
14:53I don't know how.
14:54I don't know how he does it, but he will.
14:57He absolutely will.
14:59Love that.
14:59So you're not worried.
15:00You're saying you're not worried about the one.
15:03Justin Cooper in fifth.
15:04And Dylan Frandes looking great on that Ducati.
