00:01Hello. Welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:06Tonight, no Chase Sexton, no Jason Anderson, and it's yet another week, a second race weekend in a row, no
00:13Jorge Prado.
00:14Justin Barsha, by the way, was on property today, so great to see him back, but not yet back racing.
00:21And hopefully we'll see both Chase Sexton and Jason Anderson back next weekend in Indy, so fingers crossed.
00:27And, of course, R.J. Hampshire with that foot injury.
00:30So wishing all those guys on the sidelines a speedy recovery, and hopefully we'll see him back soon.
00:36How about the guy who can ride good at this race track is our last year's winner, Ken Robson.
00:42Been solid all year long.
00:44I think this track, as it goes on, is going to favor this guy, but coming back in, got to
00:48have a lot of confidence, maybe he can get another one.
00:50Well, and you're exactly right, Chase, but he needs a bounce back.
00:53He had a rough...
01:00Here's an interesting story for you.
01:02Bike 676 is Robert Fitch out of Denver, Colorado.
01:08The 45-year-old racing here at the World Center of Racing.
01:12Pretty exciting night because his 15-year-old son is in SMX Next.
01:18Yeah, looking good, too.
01:21That's incredible.
01:22Think about that.
01:23Father-son combo on the same night.
01:25Here under the lights at Daytona, 450, heat one.
01:29Let's go!
01:32Good start, Eli Tomac on the inside.
01:35Somebody's down.
01:37Oh, looked like a star bike, baby.
01:40Hopefully that's not the case.
01:42It was not an incredible start by Eli Tomac.
01:47And able to break hard enough to still keep the lead and not fade to the outside.
01:53But, again, no surprise.
01:54This guy is just absolutely lighting it up aboard that Red Bull KTM.
01:59But I like...
01:59Hey, don't sleep on Cooper either, man.
02:01He's been right there all season long.
02:04And these two veterans right here know what is on the line.
02:08And I'm sure all these guys want to win.
02:10Eli wants to get his eighth one.
02:12But there's probably no one that's more motivated than that number one Cooper Webb to get his first one.
02:17But also to do it in Eli's house.
02:20So far, Eli's starting to get away.
02:21Good to see the Cowboy, Aaron Plessinger.
02:24And the rookie, Jordan Smith.
02:26Yeah.
02:26This is Jordan's second race back.
02:29He had a full-on shoulder reconstruction in the offseason.
02:35Good run through the woods.
02:37Jordan's always been fast through the woods.
02:39But, JT, give us something to hear about on Plessinger.
02:43Well, AP is certainly trying to repeat what he did last year.
02:47Because he had a really tough start at 25.
02:49Guess what?
02:502026 hasn't been much kinder.
02:52But he came in here and got a podium as he makes a move on Jordan Smith there.
02:56This is a track he's ridden well at.
02:58He qualified well earlier today.
03:00And I think the AP has a podium on his mind headed towards the main event.
03:02Look at the momentum of Ken Rockson, last year's winner here at Daytona.
03:08I want to go back to what I was talking about, Ken Rockson, before this race started.
03:13I think he needs a bounce-back race.
03:15Remember, we go back to Seattle.
03:17He had a collision with Hunter Lawrence.
03:19And he lost a lot of championship points there.
03:22Then last weekend, he hung on for a hard-fought fourth.
03:25But, man, he at least needs to be on that podium to insert himself back into the championship.
03:33No, I agree with you.
03:34Oh!
03:35Oh!
03:36Yeah, we saw in the background Dylan went down.
03:39And then we had another guy run into him.
03:41Dylan was trying to get his bike.
03:42He probably couldn't see.
03:44That's...
03:44Logan Leetzel on the 208.
03:47Went into the back of Dylan Frandes.
03:49Yeah, tough break.
03:50But, yeah, I agree with you, Ricky.
03:51I think the history...
03:52And just for Ken, the Belter believe in himself that he has a chance to win this championship.
03:57It would be a huge knife for him points-wise and mentally.
04:01Meanwhile, back up front.
04:03Eli Tomac continues to lead Cooper Webb.
04:07And Eli had a small crash himself today at the...
04:12Just finishing off the...
04:13Whoops, James.
04:14You and I were watching it.
04:15His foot came off the pegs.
04:16It is his teammate.
04:17Aaron Plessinger has problems in the sand.
04:20Oh, one of many.
04:21This sand section is really difficult.
04:23And now they worked on it.
04:24It's really soft.
04:25So, bummer for Aaron.
04:26I'm sure he just...
04:27Probably a little wide and just got stuck there.
04:30Well, and it's really hard coming out of a corner going into that deep sand
04:34because they basically have no speed.
04:37And that's just what happens.
04:38The back end lights up.
04:39He starts spinning.
04:40Then the weight transfers.
04:42He buries the front end and goes over.
04:44Very difficult right there, especially the sand hasn't dug down to the hard pack of this harder base.
04:51So, got to get some momentum coming out of that corner.
04:54Get on top of the sand and drive through.
04:56Yeah, Lee, as you were talking about, Eli, he had to tip over in the whoops.
05:00And he was able to rebound.
05:02I mean, he pretty fast.
05:04Almost a second faster than third place.
05:07But the problem was, was Hunter Lawrence is a half a second faster than him.
05:11But Eli just really threw those whoops.
05:12He's here to play tonight.
05:14Probably really motivated to try to stop this bleeding, I would say, with Hunter Lawrence and his confidence.
05:18Tell us more about time back, Will.
05:21Well, I'm going back to the very beginning of this heat race there.
05:24And that incredible start.
05:25Because Eli Tomac started the entire season with strong starts.
05:29They've kind of faded away the last few rounds.
05:32They've been a bit sort of like hit and miss, if you like.
05:34But this was clearly a good one.
05:36And for a reason, he actually went to the GOAT farm, the training facility.
05:41Oh, I'm sorry.
05:42I'm sorry.
05:43The training facility there.
05:45And did starts on Thursday.
05:47So he was in Florida.
05:48Got there Wednesday.
05:49Did starts on Thursday, which is fairly unusual.
05:51He's not usually there leading into the races.
05:54And they said, what we wanted out of it was consistency.
05:57So it was just starts, starts, starts.
05:58And they wanted to make sure that he, like himself, and was prepared to help him with some of the
06:02mapping on the bike,
06:03was comfortable with making sure that he could do it repeatedly.
06:06Because they said, that's fine.
06:07You can do 20 starts on a start day, get five of them right.
06:10But we need to make sure every single one is right.
06:12So whatever he figured out, guys, on that Thursday, the Thursday just kind of obviously helped.
06:17But here, we need now to see if he gets the consistency going in order to hit that for the
06:21main event.
06:22Yeah, I think it was at the Baker factory, I believe, doing some starts there.
06:26And a lot of the KTM riders ride and train.
06:30But, man, go back to that start.
06:32When you watch that replay, you guys at home can rewind.
06:34We don't have the luxury of that right here.
06:36But I don't believe Eli shifts to third gear.
06:39So he's able to just focus on his drive and his body position and drive forward.
06:45And by not shifting, that gave him the advantage.
06:50Dylan Ferrandez has been able to work his way up into the top nine
06:54in a transfer position ahead of Mitchell Harrison.
06:56He works his way through the woods.
06:58Have a look at the Ducati rider here.
07:00Yeah, Dylan's been riding really good.
07:02Actually had some great laptops in practice.
07:04And I do feel like as this track breaks down, Dylan's going to be even better and better.
07:08But nice to see him back up, not injured, and makes his way to a transfer position.
07:14You talk about how well his lap times were in qualifying practice.
07:17And then the Rocky Mountain ATV MC Fantasy Picks wasn't showing him any love.
07:25Disrespecting his skills here at Daytona.
07:27See that rear fender.
07:29Yeah.
07:30It's messed up.
07:31I bumped into Paolo Cipati yesterday, who's the head of the Ducati off-road program.
07:36And he just said, look, we're bummed about Justin Barsha being away from the track,
07:40but we wish him a speedy recovery.
07:42He said, given this is our first season here at Monster NGMA Supercross,
07:47we're delighted with what Dylan Ferrandez is doing and how the bike's performing so far.
07:50I mean, you've got to think of who they're racing against
07:53and just how long these race teams have been established
07:56and how long they've been in the business.
07:58I mean, yes, Ducati has been in the motorcycle business for a long time,
08:02but not at the SMX level.
08:05Man, Kenny's putting in some good laps.
08:07He was the fastest guy on the track last lap.
08:09Yeah, Kenny's looking good.
08:10I think maybe Eli Tomac getting away.
08:13Now Cooper doesn't have that rabbit to chase,
08:15so it's easy to kind of start looking back behind you.
08:17But that being said, Kenny is riding really good, looking at the bottom.
08:22Looks like Aaron was able to get back up.
08:24He's in the transfer position.
08:26We've got Jordan Smith behind him.
08:27He's logging these laps, Ricky.
08:29Yeah.
08:31Well in position to make it to the main.
08:33Hate to see AP go down like that, like JT was telling us.
08:38Wants to get up there and run up front.
08:39And this style of track, I think, really he vibes with.
08:43Able to ride a little loose, use those long legs as some leverage.
08:47Ride to the back of the bike.
08:49Keep that front end light, especially the sand sections.
08:51That's what you want to do.
08:52The bike 12, bottom box there ahead of Plessinger.
08:55Shane McElrath aboard the Quadlock Honda.
08:57So good to see Shane nicely positioned in the top four.
09:00Plessinger's fifth.
09:02Jordan Smith and Ferrandez Cole Thompson and Freddie Noren
09:04in a transfer position at the moment.
09:07Mitchell Harrison's been pushed outside.
09:09I like the way that split lane is working out.
09:11But on the top of our screen, we saw how close Ken is as he closes up.
09:16Cooper was able to get away.
09:17So kind of back to my point, maybe he was kind of relaxing a little bit.
09:21Eli was a little farther away.
09:23But we still got a good battle for here.
09:24This top five.
09:26See if Aaron can get a run through the wolves.
09:27Oh, great entry speed for Aaron.
09:29Gaines on the bike length or so on McElrath.
09:32McElrath going to guard there, go to the inside.
09:38Inside primarily faster right now.
09:40But again, it is going to get super rough in the main events.
09:43Those guys are going to have to pull an audible, probably go to the outside.
09:46And this is one of those racetracks.
09:49I thought he was going to make the move.
09:51Yeah, it looked like he was going to make the move, didn't it?
09:53Next team coming up, you'll see McElrath's teammate Joey Savagy.
09:56And Joey was really speedy in qualifying.
09:59We'll tell you more about that in just a moment
10:01as these two battle it out for a top four in this heat.
10:04Oh, that's twice here as Eli dominates this heat race
10:08over Cooper Webb and Ken Rockson.
10:10But, yeah, Aaron's been trying to get around.
10:12He comes up short on that triple.
10:14Let's see.
10:15McElrath's going to have to make a decision inside or out.
10:18You got options, you got options.
10:20Look how tight it is here.
10:21Great move.
10:22Aaron Plessing and the crowd love that.
10:25Saw that one coming.
10:26Nice job.
10:27That was an epic pass.
10:28And that's a good confidence boost for AP
10:30to come back from that little tip over
10:32and finish off the heat like that going into the main event.
10:35Top four result for the Red Bull KTM rider.
10:39And his teammate wins.
10:40Think about the career numbers.
10:41This guy's racking up.
10:4256 main event wins.
10:44That was his 52nd heat win.
10:46The story just keeps getting better and better
10:49for Eli Tomac.
10:51We'll hear from ET3 when we come back.
10:53.
10:54.
10:54.
10:54.
10:54.
10:54.
10:54.
10:54.
10:54.
