00:00Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:30Once Hayden Deegan moves up to the premier class during the outdoors this summer, I think
00:35the confidence that he gained from winning the SMX World Championship last year and
00:40getting over the hump, going head-to-head with Hayden Deegan, I think he sees himself
00:44as the guy now, and I think that's something that Joe has been missing in the past.
00:49How about the way this track is shaping up right now?
00:51I like the lines that Joe has taken.
00:53There's some inside little berms there, especially the one before the whoops.
00:56I like what he did.
00:57Go inside, cut off some track, he's able to already start jumping through the whoops.
01:01Here's an inside right there, you see Cody Shock to the inside, Shimoda to the outside, so
01:06I love the versatility of this track.
01:08And it's really difficult, especially in the first qualifier, when there really isn't one
01:13fast line that stands out above the rest right now.
01:18All these guys will go back to the truck in between qualifiers, they'll find out who the
01:22fastest guy was, they'll watch his footage, watch his lines, and adjust their lines for
01:27the second qualifier to get a better idea of the race line later on this evening.
01:32But right now, I love Joe carrying a lot of momentum around the outside of that corner.
01:36And with these conditions here, the softer dirt, the more you lose your momentum, the more you
01:43bury the bike in some of these softer corners, the slower you're going to be around the racetrack.
01:48And I like that for Joe, because he is so good with carrying his momentum, being light on the gas,
01:54and light on the brakes.
01:55Joe Shimoda, only one start here in Daytona, is in 2020, he got seventh that night.
02:01How about this guy, 37, Cole Davies, Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha, you want to talk about speed?
02:07This guy's got plenty of it.
02:09And we always make a big deal about Cole in the whoops, and for good reason.
02:13But you kind of see some of the technique that makes him so good in the whoops.
02:19You see it here watching on screen.
02:21He's so, his upper body oftentimes is so stable on the motorcycle.
02:27You don't see his head leaning to the right or leaning to the left.
02:30And it just allows him to put the bike in the line that he wants to.
02:34In terms of having complete control of the bike, that's always very important at Daytona because of the conditions.
02:42And I just love watching this kid ride, JB.
02:45To be this young and this good already, we've got a superstar in the making.
02:49Well, he jumped to second right there with a 120.2.
02:52But no one faster than the 10 of Seth Hamaker on track right now, 119.9.
02:58Do you like that number 10?
03:00I like it.
03:01I do.
03:02I like the 10.
03:03I like Seth Hamaker.
03:04I think he's going to be in this thing for the long haul.
03:06He's great here at Daytona.
03:08Kind of got his season underway last year like you had mentioned earlier.
03:12But I like Cole Davies as well.
03:14Look, bad start.
03:15Goes down in the first turn at Arlington.
03:17Comes back to fifth.
03:18His segment times in the whoops.
03:19We're going to cover it later on right here on Race Day Live.
03:22But just how quick he was in that one segment.
03:25Now, he's not going to be able to rely on that here in Daytona or maybe even at Indianapolis
03:30being that they're going to be so ruddy typically.
03:32But like you mentioned, the rest of the track, he's growing into himself.
03:36Look, it's only his sophomore season.
03:38But he's not only got speed in the whoops, turn speed, technique.
03:41He's got it all.
03:42And he has the mindset as well.
03:43Getting to talk to him a little bit last year.
03:46A lot like kind of reminds me of Cooper Webb.
03:48A lot of these great champions and Ricky Carmichael will tell you the same thing.
03:52They don't overcomplicate anything.
03:54And I think in terms of the markers for long-term success, I believe his mindset will be just
04:01as valuable, just as important as his skill and technique on the bike.
04:05All right.
04:06Let's take a fast lap with the number 10.
04:08Seth Hamaker on a good one right now.
04:09Pierce Brown jumped to the top by less than a tenth of a second.
04:13So can Seth Hamaker throw down?
04:15He goes double, triple right there.
04:16And I rode this track yesterday.
04:18This sand section is so, so deep.
04:20It's hard to even ride through, let alone go as fast as Seth is going right now.
04:23The bike just, you feel like you're on an ice skating rink, JB.
04:27And especially for these 250s, going through that sand section, if they don't fall into a rut
04:32and stay in the rut the whole time, you get outside of that rut where it's a little softer
04:37and you absolutely kill your momentum.
04:40So one of the most technical spots of the track.
04:43And if you make a mistake in the sand section on a 250, it's really easy to lose a second,
04:49second and a half.
04:50As you see, Seth just make a little mistake, not quite getting over that double off that
04:56little ledge.
04:56Haley, you have no more on the number 10?
04:58Yeah, the number 10 and the 163.
05:01Just my thoughts.
05:02I had a chance to speak with our colleague, Ricky Carmichael, as well as the King, Jeremy
05:06McGrath, yesterday to get their analysis.
05:08And they said when it comes to Daytona, the more experienced guys in the 250 class, this
05:13could suit them.
05:14Would you guys agree?
05:15Someone like Seth or even Pierce Brown, they've had a number of races here at Daytona.
05:20I think you're spot on, Haley.
05:22And talking to those two guys, obviously they would know best, but I do think experience
05:26comes into play mainly from not only just switching lines and evolving with the track,
05:32but also just bike changes, AC, right?
05:34I mean, you're going to really want to evolve with the track with the bike as well.
05:37Not only your technique and line selection.
05:39There's no doubt about it.
05:40And Daytona always proposes a different challenge in that way.
05:45But because the super cross style portions of this track, they're just as steep, just
05:51as rutted.
05:52These whoops are just as difficult as we see every weekend.
05:55So you need to have your bike, you need to have your bike stiff to be safe in those sections
06:01of the track.
06:01And you kind of just have to deal with it on the parts of the track that get some braking
06:05bumps that get a little bit, get a little bit rougher.
06:08So the guy that is in tune with his machine, as you see Pierce, I love that line jumping way
06:13out in the sand.
06:16The guys that stay in tune with their bike and know the changes they need to have the best
06:21motorcycle for this evening's program.
06:24Those are the guys that are going to be on the top step.
06:26I love what we're seeing from Pierce Brown.
06:28Not only last week, but you would have to think that that took the pressure off, right?
06:32You come out, you obviously in a contract year, you were injured for the last 12 months.
06:37And not only just from the fans and the speculation, even from us, what type of form is he going
06:42to bring?
06:43But even as a rider yourself, you know how fast you are during the week.
06:46But then to actually do it, to come good on getting that first career Supercross victory,
06:50he's riding with a lot of confidence right now.
06:52Yeah.
06:53And as you see him here, finishing up a fast lap, he looks confident, sending it super
06:58fast into the, into the turns.
06:59Couple of little mistakes, nothing, nothing he should worry about too much.
07:05But we've known for a long time that Pierce Brown has had the speed needed to win and
07:10to compete in these championships.
07:11And it's really been health and consistency that, that he's needed.
07:15And this is a new position for him.
07:17Winning the race, having the points lead.
07:19I'm really interested to see.
07:21We know how skilled he is.
07:23I'm interested to see mentally how he copes with the challenge of being the guy everyone
07:27is chasing.
07:28Well, they're chasing Seth Hamaker as far as qualifying times here today.
07:32It's close at the top though.
07:34Hamaker with a 119.7.
07:36Your championship points that are Pierce Brown.
07:38He's second with a 119.9.
07:40Cole Davies in there with a 120.2.
07:42Drew Adams.
07:43That's good for that Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider.
07:46And Joe Shimoda in the top five.
07:48Shimoda's typically not that great in qualifying.
07:50So if he's in the top five, you know he's feeling good out here today.
07:54Stay tuned.
07:54And we're just getting rolling on race day live.
07:56We'll catch up with the tennis.
07:57Seth Hamaker.
07:57We'll catch with you there.
