00:00and look at that final preparations before the gate drops both the west
00:05division and the first round of the east division this year 250 competitions
00:09been dominated by the blue crew all Yamaha victories interestingly enough
00:15Yamaha hasn't won in 250 competition here in Daytona in 10 years all the way
00:22back to 2016 and Jeremy Martin ready for 250 East here in Daytona main event let's
00:30go inside set Hamaker bike 10 Hamaker with the hole shot slips right up the
00:37inside as the other guys fade out and Joe Shimoda second position right there
00:43behind Hamaker this is going to be a battle we talked about earlier those
00:48runs coming out of the gate and Joe actually had this hole shot I believe
00:52but he hit one of those front end popped up he had to pull in the clutch allow
00:55Seth to get out front this is what he needed Ricky we know he has the speed
00:59need that clean air right now oh is that yeah Pierce Brown trying to make a move
01:05on Adams early I'd let these not wanting these guys you just have to think not
01:11one these guys in front to get too far out and gain that track position to be
01:15tough to make up time especially here early Yamaha may have dominated
01:19competition so far this year but it's Kawasaki and Honda out in front before you
01:24pick up the first Yamaha Seth Hamaker crash in qualifying and crashed in his
01:31heat as he fends off Joe Shimoda the SMX 250 World Champion that line was
01:37great by Joe Shimoda he actually gained position on Seth Hamaker by going to the
01:43inside and jumping through there Joe Shimoda almost tagged the rear wheel of Hamaker just
01:49what we talked about in heat race how aggressive Joe looks coming off this
01:52injury just getting better and better Joe probably understands he wants to get
01:56out front hopefully avoid what happened last week and I think if he does he has
02:00the pace to start clear out but it's gonna be tough yeah he looks like a
02:04completely different rider than last week and on a gnarlier track but I
02:08actually oh look at this that's Davies trying to get by Cody shock now he's
02:14gonna be on the inside here he had the preferred line or the advantage I like
02:19how shot goes to the outside as it gets bottled up in there yes traffic jam of
02:24teammates up ahead one two three Cody shops gonna break up that line of
02:28teammates as he forces his way ahead of the Davies tucks in behind championship
02:33leader Pierce Brown highest place Monster Energy star Yamaha rider is Nate Thrasher
02:38in fourth that's what I talked about being patient he slammed in that corner and
02:43lost that momentum otherwise he might have to pass and yeah he knows he has to
02:47get out get around him because they're those leaders starting to pull away as we
02:50see drew Adam got around Nate Thrasher for third place it's hard not to take that
02:55bite that bait when you see out of your peripheral the guy going a little bit
03:00faster than you are trying to make a pass
03:05oh this guy's teammates battling for it
03:10Seth Hamaka aboard his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki top box leads the way he
03:15was a championship contender last year finished just three points shy of Tom
03:20Vial to win the 250 East Division but he won a couple of times it was a great
03:25season for him after multiple setbacks in his career last year was a phenomenal
03:32year for Hamaka this is Drew Adams the youngster working on the SMX world
03:36champion talking about confidence he was able to get around Nate Thrasher and
03:42close in on Joe so that heat race just the confidence that he's getting you've
03:47seen it on this racetrack Joe makes that mistake holds up drew a little bit and you
03:52can see his teammate out front pulling away looks like a lot of the riders if
03:56they're kind of by their by theirselves they go to the inside first on the
04:01split lane but if they're behind someone they automatically go to the outside
04:06there on the first right-hander so keep your eye there later on in this race
04:12looking at the 18 year old New Zealander Cole Davies currently runs fifth chasing
04:18after his teammate he's got teammate behind as well run by both those guys oh
04:24yeah felt Cole might make up some time but wasn't able to Pierce got through his
04:28wolf just as good yeah he did great run for the both of them and I was I was with
04:33you I thought for sure Cole was gonna make up some ground on his teammate but he
04:36wasn't able Pierce is still hitting on only one actually seen in both classes still
04:41tripling into that sand section he didn't get it as clean slowed him down but
04:47he can get that right we saw what he did in that heat race
04:52Davies was frustrated last week after going down on the opening lap but his
04:57comeback as he's coming back on his teammate here Pierce Brown his comeback
05:00from the back of the field to a top five result last weekend in Arlington that was
05:05something else as he passes the points leader I'm guessing he revved up his bike
05:09right there to try to scare Pierce Brown out of the line perfect execution way to
05:14look ahead and predict that that inside was going to slow down and keep that momentum
05:18around the outside really heads up I mean that could have been even costly he almost
05:23ran into Pierce but like you said that heads up Roddy he predicted and nice pass
05:29coming in on Drew Adams right in front of him yeah he's not that far away is he
05:33there's Adams top of your screen watch the run he gets through the whoops so I mean
05:36Cole Davies for his stature I mean he is absolutely incredible through the whoops he almost had
05:42I'd say six tenths to seven tenths time gap on the whoops last week in Houston that's an eternity in
05:49a regular supercross race
05:52if he hits this triple oh Drew Adams got hung up there a little bit here comes
05:58Piz Brown on the inside and Cole is definitely keeping his eyes up because he almost landed on
06:06Drew and Peter jumped out he would have landed on him we saw Pierce get behind him but still didn't
06:10lose too much time
06:11yeah be interesting remember Cole made a pass on his teammate right here in this section coming up let's see
06:16if he does the same thing he's going to try to do it
06:19using this outside to his advantage
06:22so that inside oh
06:25made up time there you go I'm assuming he's probably going to go to opposite see if he could make
06:29Drew nervous maybe rush that corner
06:31oh Cole messed it up so he lost some time but you'll see that gap close in and he was
06:37able to show Drew Adams the front wheel and so now that's in Adams head
06:42he'll know that Davies is close enough and then now Dave if you're Davies right here and James you've been
06:47in this position a million times he knows he's faster than these guys so
06:51the urgency is there for sure and you want to have it but at the same time he can kind
06:56of let the pass come to him when he has that kind of speed advantage
07:00yeah and the way Cole is and if I'm in this position as long as
07:04Seth isn't pulling away from me I'm okay with that but
07:07right he does that number 10 gets away I'm gonna have to start making these passes JT
07:11yeah they're definitely trying to get forward here but you know it's just another Drew Adams comment he's talking about
07:16this is his favorite racetrack you see
07:17Cole Davis make a huge mistake there but you know Drew Adams so good Pierce Brown taller guy AP do
07:24you think that there's a distinct advantage here at Daytona to having a taller height
07:29do you think they can get more leverage is that why these guys talk about Daytona being their favorite track
07:34do you think
07:35uh that's I mean listen that's a that's a really good question and I'd love to ask him that I
07:41think that the long legs and a track like this JT can work for you
07:45but against you also in some of these ruts I've always been told that listen ain't no secret I'm a
07:51short man
07:52so it you know ruts normally are better especially in turn situations so I think it's twofold I really do
08:00I love this place now it's short
08:04so there you go
08:05worked out pretty well didn't it
08:077.22 we're at the halfway point on the clock
08:12in this second round of 250 east for 2026 you're looking at Cole Davies a quick reminder
08:18to stock up on Monster Energy drinks
08:21at 7.11
08:22really good form there through the whoops and
08:27still a lot of racing left here Will with uh half the race left to go
08:32yeah Ricky and James are just kind of wondering what you're seeing Cole Davies now compared to what we saw
08:36in qualifying earlier because talking to him after those qualifying rounds he was definitely not happy
08:42he describes himself he describes himself excuse me as overriding the bike he did say he's not too
08:47worried about qualifying and he's a racer and that's main event time for him but what do you see in
08:52him now
08:52what did you see in him this morning and we're talking about a kid with you know comparatively little
08:56experience in this pro class
08:57uh he hit a spot on that's what i thought i thought maybe he was trying a little um too
09:02hard
09:03and with this racetrack as this slows down i think it's going to help Cole because he's a very technical
09:08rider
09:08so as the day goes on he'll get better but he was just overriding the racetrack to me it seems
09:13like when he gets close
09:14sometimes he gets a little excited obviously he wants to make that pass
09:17then he makes a mistake and loses that time but clearly he has his speed as he goes up the
09:20inside
09:21look at this side by side with Drew Adams Cole Davies moves into third
09:26that was a really nice pass
09:29goes to the opposite lane
09:30and he really executes that last corner
09:33that left-hander coming out on the inside
09:36perfectly
09:37he's kind of messed that corner up the last two laps
09:40but man did he get it right at the right time
09:42whoa misses the inside
09:45he's got a shot at Joe Shimoda now
09:47oh yeah 100%
09:48watch this
09:48he's got a shot at this wind
09:50yeah
09:51yeah the way he's going i mean he was two seconds faster
09:53and drew and just what will was talking about
09:56he can just be smooth he has the pace
09:59and as you see these guys going jt i think he he still get this thing done
10:03he's got a lot of pace right now and it's it's the whoops guys like he's riding the track really
10:08well
10:08you can see how much smoother he is now and he's kind of letting the race unfold
10:12where he was overriding earlier as you mentioned
10:14but the whoops last weekend he had a clear advantage the whoops again here this weekend
10:18as the whoops are starting to deteriorate he has such an edge on these guys
10:22and i'm telling you right now if Joe Shimoda does not pick up the pace
10:25that is where he is going to continue making up time
10:28well jt i don't think you have time in and scoring down there but Cole Davies ran a 119-0
10:34to Seth Hammacher's 121-0 a sec- two seconds faster
10:40that is huge look at that bottom left graphic showing you times
10:45and this guy's flying this is his first pro race here
10:49Cole Davies raced here in smx next where drew adams got the better of him
10:54a couple of years ago but he is the man on the move watch him here
10:59beautiful yeah very good and he's making time up clearly
11:03in the in the whoops but i actually think where he's making more time up is due to the sand
11:08section
11:08in these corners when he's really patient he doesn't make too many mistakes he makes one arc
11:13and he's able to get it same thing with the sand if he gets it right make sure he gets
11:17in there
11:17he's able to carry that momentum that's where he's making it up
11:20make a little bit of time here and there it looks good
11:22just to go back to will's point about qualifying and Cole Davies James we were watching at the end
11:27and he made his feelings known he ripped his goggles off his helmet you could see the look on his
11:32face
11:33he was so mad at the end of qualifying where i think he was something like sixth
11:37and uh just not satisfied with his performance well he's got just under four minutes plus the lap
11:43to work on shimoda and he's got joe right within his sights
11:47and then set hammock is only another two and a half seconds up the up the track
11:51getting in the lap first man that was close did you see joe almost lose it looked like going into
11:56that right hander he initiated the turn and it pushed that front end push just a tad
12:01that hard base on there with that sand on top good job saving him but gotta give a shout out
12:06to
12:06seft he picked up the pace he ran a 120 so he was the fastest guy on that racetrack right
12:11there
12:11so he saw the number 37 Davies coming you know ricky this race could be won a loss in the
12:17next
12:18half a lap except if he can keep going i go back to also i mean compared to when we
12:24were racing james
12:25it's like these these younger guys are so good at maintaining like a two to three second lead it's
12:31always hard to tell if they're giving it their all whereas you and i when we were racing we wanted
12:35to
12:36have a you know a 20 second lead at the end so yeah but seth doing a great job wicked
12:41it up
12:41there when he did and got that gap back to two and a half three seconds and there's some lappers
12:47going on also yeah seth didn't get through that sand section and look at that gap he closed down
12:52quite a bit just to remind you what happened to this man who leads the race and it's just two
12:59and
12:59a half minutes plus a lap away from a victory which would be his best ever result here at daytona
13:03this is what happened to hamica earlier today it wasn't pretty for the guy who almost won this
13:10title last year check this out uh yeah when you get right there that is that is so scary when
13:15you go
13:16sideways like that but glad to see that he was okay and remember he has shoulder surgery in the off
13:22season not sure why but his teammate drew adams just pulled off the track and has left this race
13:28that's a shame for the teenager who was running so well he was in the top three at one point
13:33in time
13:34tell us more about seth will i was talking to ricky lee before racing got started today and we were
13:41kind of reflecting on seth's performance last weekend and sort of ricky's opinion and not to
13:47put words in mouth ricky that they just wasn't quite what we were expecting out of him he missed the
13:50podium there with the four well i asked him about that today and he said honestly i just i i
13:56took what the
13:57track gave me that night we know how bad the conditions were last weekend in arlington and
14:02something's oh shimota's down well oh man look at you can almost see his line right here not sure
14:11what happened he was probably feeling the pressure from davies davies was all over him a lot of time
14:18if you don't get that momentum here let's see what happens oh he gets there probably buries that front
14:23in kind of hits that pothole right there and then yeah there is it there you go it looked like
14:28he
14:28tried to turn out early a little bit and get a straighter shot down that straightaway and just yep
14:33buries the front and at the moment that has cost him a podium spot because pierce brown not only
14:39cole davies but pierce brown went by as well oh brutal for joe i mean considering what we this guy's
14:47only been on a bike a couple weeks i'm sure he's not going to be happy but both these weekends
14:52are
14:52wins for joe it's just how good he's been around he's had a chance i mean yeah you're talking about
14:57a guy that wasn't even sure he was going to race last weekend and the reason why folks is after
15:01he won
15:02the 250 smx world championship he went back home to japan to a hero's welcome it was an amazing period
15:09in his life he returned to the u.s and had a practice crash had a training crash and broke
15:15his neck
15:16had successful surgery but it was a long rehab period as you can imagine and this is still part
15:21of the comeback story last week finished second in awkward somewhat controversial circumstances
15:27with that confusion with the red flashing light and pierce brown jumped past him and went on to the win
15:33that infuriated honda the team the executives las linstrom the team manager and the rider especially
15:42now unfortunately here dropping it in the sand at the end of this 250 east main event
15:48yeah you heard lee right this guy broke his
15:53on the line and he'll be the first monster energy pro circuit kawasaki rider to win here in five years
15:59since cameron mcadoo won back in 21. this is huge i just think about
16:05ever since last year he invested in himself made the change he's been a completely different rider you
16:11think i've closely won almost won the championship think about how any any race victory is special
16:17but as the two of you know all too well to win at the world center of racing under the
16:23lights
16:24here in daytona this is a special time set hamica wins daytona
16:32and kawasaki breaks the yamaha stranglehold on this year's 250 competition
16:39mitch payton well done so happy for that guy mitch you ain't joking
16:56that's a fan experience i think when they purchased them tickets they were going to get this that's
17:02why you need to come to supercross that's what you get here awesome congrats that
17:08that's so special first one in the season first one at dictona
17:16is that point up too and lee you asked i mean what makes daytona so special it's that right there
17:21and what you're able to do and how you can celebrate here
17:28set hamica daytona winner that's a lifetime memory right there
