A sensational case from Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district, where a 25-year-old woman allegedly “turned into an Icchadhari Naagin”, has taken a dramatic turn after she resurfaced and announced her marriage to her long-time partner.

On 10 February 2026, Reena, the youngest among five sisters, went missing from her home after her family had reportedly fixed her marriage elsewhere.

The next morning, family members found a five-foot-long snake’s shed skin (kenchuli), along with bangles, a bindi and jewellery, placed on her bed. Panic spread across the village, with rumours that she had transformed into a serpent woman (naagin).

An FIR was lodged, and police began tracing her location.

During investigation, police found that Reena had been in a relationship for the past four years with Satnam, a resident of the same village. According to sources, Reena had repeatedly resisted attempts by her father to arrange her marriage. She allegedly told her family vivid stories about snakes visiting her at night and claimed she was an “Icchadhari Naagin” whose male serpent lived with her.

Police later traced her to an Arya Samaj temple in Kanpur, where she married Satnam after performing traditional rituals, including the seven pheras. The couple also reportedly registered their marriage legally.

A day after her disappearance triggered chaos, Reena appeared in an Instagram video with Satnam standing behind her, stating that she had married of her own free will and asking authorities not to harass her in-laws.

When questioned about the snake slough, she claimed that a snake used to sleep beside her at night and that one of the shed skins belonged to it. Police have recorded her statement and are expected to produce her before a magistrate for formal recording under legal procedure.

An old dance video of Reena, reportedly shot in rural fields to a song themed around serpent couples, has now gone viral on social media, further amplifying the “naagin drama” narrative.

Officials maintain that the case is linked to a love affair and her opposition to an arranged marriage. With Reena having returned and given her statement, further action will depend on court proceedings.
