Bride Elopes a Day Before Wedding, Claims Forced Marriage; Kidnapping Case Takes Dramatic Turn

Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh): A day before her scheduled wedding, a 25-year-old woman allegedly eloped with her lover from a beauty parlour in the Karvi police station area, triggering tension in the family and a kidnapping case.

The incident took place in Chhapra Mafi village under the Kotwali area. Divya Shukla (25) was set to marry Dhananjay, a resident of Nagar village in Manikpur, with the wedding procession scheduled to arrive on February 12. Preparations were underway, and rituals were to begin on February 10.

On February 9, Divya’s father took her and her younger sister to Apoorva Beauty Parlour in Sitapur town for wedding makeup. After finishing her makeup, Divya allegedly stepped out while her sister remained inside. At that moment, she reportedly left in a car with her lover, Aditya Singh Chauhan. Despite her father’s attempt to stop her, she managed to flee.

Following the incident, her father lodged a complaint at Karvi police station, registering a kidnapping case against Aditya Singh Chauhan and two others — Shivendra and Garima Dixit.

However, the case took a new turn after Divya released a video on social media while sitting in a car with Aditya. In the video, she stated that she is 25 years old and had left home of her own free will. She alleged that her family was forcing her to marry an older man against her wishes and claimed she was subjected to mental and physical harassment.

Divya further claimed that she married Aditya Singh Chauhan in Prayagraj as per Arya Samaj rituals. Photographs and an alleged Arya Samaj marriage certificate have since gone viral on social media.

Police said efforts are underway to trace the woman and record her statement before a court. Officials added that if she is found to be a consenting adult and confirms her voluntary marriage, the kidnapping case may be legally impacted.

The incident has become a major talking point in the area, especially as the wedding was just a day away when the bride left with her lover.
