Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh): High drama unfolded late Wednesday evening in Rai Vihar Colony near Narayan Bagh when a 30-year-old woman staged a sit-in protest outside her in-laws’ house, holding her infant daughter in her lap, after allegedly being denied entry.

The woman, identified as Varsha Rai, a resident of Hansari, claimed she was married to Ravi Rai on November 24, 2024. She alleged that after the birth of her daughter, her husband and in-laws began harassing her for not bearing a son and were now trying to force her out so that Ravi could remarry.

According to Varsha, shortly after her marriage, she received a call from a woman claiming to be Ravi’s first wife. She said the family later admitted to a “mistake,” and she did not pursue the matter further. However, she now alleges that her husband is having an affair with another woman and intends to marry her with the support of his parents.

Varsha stated that she had been staying at her parental home for around one and a half months. When she returned on Monday, she was allegedly not allowed inside the house. On Wednesday, she claimed her husband left the house and switched off his phone. Left with no option, she sat outside the locked gate in protest.

On the other hand, her mother-in-law, Rajkumari, denied the allegations and accused Varsha of plotting to kill her son. She claimed that her son had read a message on Varsha’s phone allegedly stating, “If you say so, we will shoot your husband.” She also alleged that Varsha frequently stayed at her parents’ house and did not reside regularly with her in-laws.

As the confrontation escalated, police reached the spot and brought both parties to the police station. Inspector Ravi Srivastava said efforts are being made to mediate between the two sides and that further action will be taken as per legal provisions.

The incident remained the subject of intense discussion in the locality as accusations and counter-accusations continued between the two families.
