In Muzaffarpur, a 60-year-old private school principal’s marriage to a 28-year-old teacher in Nepal has sparked tension in the locality after wedding photos and videos went viral on social media.

According to reports, school owner and principal Rakesh Sah, who is said to be the father of four children, married Shaista Parveen, a teacher at his own school, in Janakpur on February 18.

Following the marriage, Shaista’s brother lodged a complaint at Aurai police station, alleging that his sister had been kidnapped and forced into marriage. The complaint reportedly names seven individuals, including Rakesh Sah, his wife and daughter. He also expressed apprehension about her safety.

However, in a video circulated online, Shaista Parveen claimed that she married of her own free will. She stated that she is safe and not under any pressure, adding that the marriage was conducted with mutual consent.

With tension prevailing in the village and concerns over possible communal strain, police have intensified the investigation. Aurai Police Station Officer Ranwar Parveen said that mobile phones of three named accused have been seized and call detail records are being analysed. Officials stated that it is yet to be determined whether the case involves a consensual marriage or coercion, and the truth will emerge after a thorough probe.

The episode has reminded many of the 2006 controversy involving Matuknath Choudhary, a Hindi professor at Patna University, who made national headlines after marrying his student Julie despite public protests and subsequent suspension.
