A speeding Fortuner car bearing an “MLA” sticker crushed three bike riders in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district, killing one youth and leaving two others critically injured. The incident occurred late Monday night in Barkhera village under the Jakhlon police station limits.

According to police and villagers, the Fortuner was allegedly travelling at around 150 kmph when it rammed into the motorcycle around midnight and dragged the victims nearly 300 metres. Shivendra (20) died on the spot, while Anuj (20) and Shankar (45) sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment.

Investigations revealed that the Fortuner is registered in the name of the wife of UP minister Manohar Lal Panth. It is alleged that the vehicle was being driven by the minister’s son, Naresh Panth, at the time of the accident. An FIR has been registered against him.

Locals said the car had an MLA sticker and an assembly pass displayed. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was badly damaged, with parts scattered across the road, and its airbags deployed. Five people were reportedly inside the car.

After the collision, the occupants allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled. Villagers claimed that when they tried to stop them, the accused threatened them with a pistol before escaping. Liquor bottles and disposable cups were also reportedly found inside the car.

Angered by the incident, locals blocked the road demanding action, but later dispersed after assurances from the police. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to establish responsibility and are examining all evidence.
Attempts to contact the minister for his response were unsuccessful.
