A tragic road accident in the Bangarmau Kotwali area of Unnao claimed the lives of a three-year-old girl and a driver after a speeding loader overturned on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 9 am near Gaharpurwa village when the loader, carrying 14 passengers, reportedly lost control after the driver allegedly dozed off. The vehicle struck a divider and overturned.

The victims were identified as Diksha (3), daughter of Monu, and the driver Murari, a resident of Makhi police station area. Both died on the spot.

According to Monu, a resident of Arsena village under Auras police station limits, he and several others from Gobra village had been working as labourers in Faridabad, Haryana, and were returning home for Holi in a rented loader when the accident occurred.

Upon receiving information, the UPDA rescue team and local police reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby health centre. After first aid, all injured were referred to the district hospital.

Inspector Akhileshchand Pandey confirmed that the injured were sent for treatment and the bodies were forwarded for post-mortem examination.

Those injured in the accident include Monu (27), his daughter Vaishnavi (8), his wife Bitto alias Pratibha (30), Rohit (24), Munshilal (50), Sonu (14), and Bhupendra (24), among others.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, with preliminary findings indicating driver fatigue as a possible cause.
