A speeding Jaguar car (UP70 DQ 0070) ploughed through a busy Diwali market in Prayagraj, killing one person and injuring five others, including a child. The driver — later identified as Rachit Madhyan, son of a prominent businessman and son-in-law of a renowned city doctor — was allegedly drunk and driving at over 100 km/h when the tragedy occurred.

Shockingly, despite police rescuing Rachit from the driver’s seat and sending him to the hospital in an ambulance, the initial FIR was filed against an “unknown driver.” Only after 24 hours was Rachit’s name officially added to the case.

Rachit, 30, is the son of Vasudev Madhyan, owner of the iconic Kamdhenu Sweets, and nephew of Inder Madhyan. He is also the son-in-law of Dr. M.K. Madnani, a renowned hospital operator in Prayagraj. Rachit and his wife, dermatologist Dr. Amrita Madnani, are directors in multiple high-value ventures, including KSN Foods LLP and Madhyan Infratech Pvt. Ltd.

According to eyewitnesses, the Jaguar hit two cars, two bikes, and a scooter, before ramming into a Diwali idol shop. The crash left the shop destroyed and several victims lying in pools of blood.

“The car came at lightning speed — everything was over in 2–3 seconds,” said eyewitness Somil, whose shop was hit.

Another witness, Ramanand Agrahari, alleged that Rachit was heavily intoxicated.

“He was drunk and speeding at around 100 km/h,” Ramanand said.

Sources reveal that Rachit had just returned from a cricket match, where his team had lost and he hadn’t been allowed to bat — possibly leaving him agitated.

The Dhoomanganj Police have now seized the vehicle and sent Rachit’s blood sample for alcohol testing. DCP Manish Shandilya confirmed that CCTV footage and car ownership documents are under scrutiny.

The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Patel, an electrician. His postmortem was conducted on Monday.

The incident has sparked public outrage over alleged police leniency towards an influential family, with many questioning the delay in naming Rachit in the FIR despite his immediate presence at the scene.
