00:21Joint pain is one of the most common reasons people visit the doctor.
00:25Whether it's pain in your knees, hips, shoulders, or hands.
00:31But not all joint pain is the same.
00:34And the cause matters.
00:36Tonight on House Call, we're breaking down the different types of joint pain.
00:41From wear and tear, to inflammation, to crystal buildup.
00:45So you know what to look out for.
00:48Joint pain can come from several different conditions.
00:51Here are some of the most common causes.
00:53Number 1. Osteoarthritis
00:56The most common type of arthritis.
00:59Usually caused by wear and tear of the joint.
01:03Some common symptoms include pain with activity, stiffness in the joint, especially after rest.
01:11Most commonly, this can affect your knees, your hips, your hands, and your spine.
01:17Number 2. Gout
01:19Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis that is caused by uric acid buildup.
01:26Most commonly, these symptoms are sudden and severe pain, redness, swelling, and warmth of the joint.
01:34And gout can most commonly affect your big toe, knees, and ankles.
01:40Number 3. Tendonitis
01:42Tendonitis
01:43Tendonitis is inflammation of your tendon.
01:45Your tendon connects your muscle to your bone.
01:49Symptoms of tendonitis include pain with movement.
01:53Usually, this pain is caused by repetitive movement or overuse of the joint.
01:59It most commonly affects your shoulder, elbows, knees, or heel.
02:04Number 4. Brasitis
02:06Brasitis is inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that help cushion your joints.
02:13Symptoms often include localized pain and tenderness to the area affected and swelling.
02:21It often affects your elbows, shoulders, or hips.
02:25And number 5. Inflammatory or autoimmune arthritis
02:29Conditions like rheumatoid arthritis cause your immune system to attack your joints.
02:37Symptoms often include pain and stiffness in the joint, especially in the morning.
02:43Generalized symptoms such as fatigue or weakness.
02:47And it can also cause deformity and destruction of the joint.
02:51While some joint pain improves with rest, worsening and persistent joint pain needs medical evaluation.
03:00Joint pain isn't something you should simply push through.
03:04The cause determines the treatment.
03:07Whether it's medication, lifestyle changes, or physical therapy.
03:12If your joint pain is ongoing, worsening, or limiting your range of movement,
03:18talk to your doctor early.
03:21The sooner you address it, the better your long-term joint health will be.
