00:10Why just dream when you can venture?
00:23When people think of a heart attack, they often think about sudden severe chest pain.
00:28But in reality, a heart attack can feel very different from what many expect.
00:35Tonight on House Call, we're discussing what a heart attack actually feels like,
00:40so you can recognize the warning signs and seek help early.
00:44A heart attack occurs when blood flow to a part of the heart muscle is blocked.
00:50Symptoms can vary from person to person, and not all heart attacks involve severe chest pain.
00:56Here are some common sensations that people describe.
01:00Chestness, comfort, or pressure.
01:02This is often described as tightness, heaviness, squeezing, or fullness in the chest.
01:09Not always a sharp pain.
01:12Pain that spreads or radiates beyond the chest.
01:15This pain can spread to your arm, jaw, neck, back, or even upper abdomen.
01:22Fainting or syncope, a person may lose consciousness.
01:27This is a serious warning sign, especially if it is accompanied with other symptoms.
01:33Nausea, sweating, and dizziness.
01:36People may feel nauseated, lightheaded, or even break out into a cold sweat, known as diaphoresis.
01:44And lastly, unusual weakness or fatigue.
01:48If you feel a sudden wave of weakness or fatigue, especially if it's out of proportion,
01:54this can be an early warning sign of a heart attack.
01:58In some individuals, particularly women, symptoms may be more subtle,
02:03such as indigestion like discomfort, back pain, or breathlessness.
02:08These can easily be mistaken for anxiety, reflux, or muscle strain.
02:15If you or someone else is experiencing these symptoms,
02:18especially chest discomfort that's combined with fainting, shortness of breath,
02:24and pain that radiates beyond the chest, do not ignore it.
02:29Seek medical attention immediately.
02:32Early treatment can significantly improve outcomes.
02:35A heart attack does not always present dramatically,
02:39but your body often gives you early warning signs.
02:44Recognizing these signs can save your life or the life of somebody else.
