00:00Since snow days are so unexpected, they really are this forced pause and for that and a whole
00:13host of reasons I think they are, there's something that we should honor. You hear from
00:19a superintendent talking about those snow days and while snow days can feel unexpected, AccuWeather
00:24created a unique tool some 15 years ago to make it easier to plan for school closings.
00:29throughout the winter season. Alright, it's called the snow day forecast and it takes into account a
00:34variety of winter weather that may play a role in the decision to cancel school including snow, ice
00:41and extreme cold. It considers not only the actual weather but its likely impact on road and travel
00:49conditions and it also takes into account local climatology. For example, an inch of snow in North
00:55Florida may lead to school cancellations while it'll likely take a much greater snow amount to cancel
01:00schools say in the Great Lakes snow belts. The timing of snow or ice is also taken into consideration
01:07on the cancellation risk. So where can you find this information? Well, you guys probably are pretty
01:13familiar with wintercast on our website. You'll go to wintercast and you'll scroll down and there's a
01:18whole lot of information about snow and ice. But as you keep scrolling, you'll see a little search
01:23icon and you can type in a zip code or a city. For example, I typed in Chicago for today, no chance of
01:29a delay. But for tomorrow, a 30% chance of a delay. And then we take you into an area like South Bend,
01:35Indiana and especially with the timing of things, only that 10% chance. So that's the AccuWeather Saturday forecast.
01:40I know you're going to find it useful. Next time we are talking about winter weather in the forecast. But
01:49for those hoping for no school on Wednesday, maybe a good time to flip those PJs inside out or do whatever
01:56ritual you have for snow day superstition.
