00:00Oh my god!
00:01This is a pairs challenge.
00:03But these aren't duos. They are duos.
00:06Do you think you're better than your duo mate?
00:08Absolutely.
00:09If I asked ChatGPT what is streetwear, it would be like a hoodie.
00:13Is this what's drying? Don't worry about it.
00:15I'm a little worried.
00:16There's no way that this is bathroom tissue.
00:18This looks so rich.
00:20Curtis, you are the winner.
00:24Maya, your storytelling gets so intelligent,
00:28but I'd rather the execution to be par to your storytelling.
00:32I'm really happy with how it turned out.
00:34Okie dokie.
00:36Delaine, your look was too cliché.
00:38I'm sorry, but you are out.
00:41At stake for the winner, from TV,
00:44a career launching investment of $100,000
00:47and a feature in Elle Canada magazine
00:50with global supermodel Coco Rocha,
00:53fashion designer Spencer Badu,
00:56creative director Aurora James,
00:58and legendary fashion journalist Jeanne Becker.
01:02This is Project Runway Canada.
01:04Watch me do my thing.
01:14Shoes on shoes on shoes.
01:16I'll take these ones. I'll take these ones.
01:20I'm a shoe girl.
01:22So I know whatever is about to be thrown at us
01:24is going to be really exciting.
01:26Aurora is here.
01:28Hi, designers.
01:29Hi.
01:30Welcome to the Badda Shoe Museum.
01:33We are standing amongst one of the most comprehensive
01:36collections of footwear on the planet.
01:38Over 15,000 shoe artifacts and indigenous belongings
01:43are preserved right here under one roof,
01:46including a few pairs designed by yours truly.
01:49I love shoes.
01:52It really says a lot about somebody
01:54from what they're wearing on their feet.
01:56It's fitting we're here,
01:57because for this week's challenge,
01:59shoes will serve as your inspiration.
02:02Each of you will design a high fashion look,
02:06inspired by one of these distinct shoe styles.
02:09Your designs should not only complement this fabulous footwear,
02:14but tell the story of the person you envision wearing it.
02:17Those red thigh-high boots are like,
02:20please do not give me those.
02:22The judges are going to be looking for
02:24some serious creativity this week,
02:26so make sure you kick it up a notch.
02:29Curtis, you won the last challenge,
02:32so you get to pick first.
02:34Shoes wisely.
02:36Hmm, it might seem a bit obvious,
02:40but I think I'm going to select the Victorian boot.
02:44They're even cuter up close.
02:46There you go.
02:47Which designer do you choose to follow in your footsteps?
02:52Hmm, another really hard decision.
02:55Because I had to beat her last challenge,
02:58I'll let Maya choose next.
03:00I think I'm going to have to go
03:01with the 60s Mondrian boots.
03:03Next, I have to pick my Montreal sister, Ka.
03:06I want those cowboy boots for sure.
03:08My safe space.
03:09I want to bring that aesthetic to a high fashion level.
03:13I'm choosing faster.
03:14It's week six, so I'm not going to pick a shoe
03:17that's going to keep me in my comfort zone.
03:19I'm going to pick the black and white saddle shoe.
03:23Wrong.
03:24I'm going to go with hologram shoes,
03:26because I'm from the future.
03:28Leland.
03:31I think I'm going to stick with my comfort zone
03:33and clearly go with the red hat and thigh highs.
03:36And of course, last but not least, Charles,
03:39do you want to come up and grab yours?
03:41I was picked last, because I'm a threat, and that's okay.
03:43Charles, that means you get the fluffy stilettos.
03:46But what the hell am I going to do with this?
03:48To start you off on the right foot,
03:50TD is providing the winner of this challenge with $5,000.
03:56Yay!
03:57Oh, my God.
03:58This will be a two-day challenge.
04:01You have 30 minutes to sketch here at the museum
04:04before we head to the fabric shop,
04:06where you'll have $500 to spend.
04:09Good luck.
04:10Ooh, let's go.
04:12Ooh, these are cute.
04:13Let's sketch, baby.
04:15Place these here for inspiration.
04:17I feel that everybody picked the shoe
04:19that is instinctive to them.
04:21I actually don't know too much
04:23about the black and white saddle shoe.
04:25I just really like it,
04:26and I think it would be smart
04:27to show the judges something new.
04:29I'm really going to tap into, like,
04:31my drag references.
04:33This boot just means a lot
04:35for the drag community that I know.
04:37I've sewn for so many queens in Toronto.
04:40It's insane.
04:41So I just think that this, like, strong,
04:43feminine checkerboard print look
04:46could just be so cool on the runway.
04:48I'm trying to do something that is creative
04:51and still has ties to the drag community.
04:54Like, I feel like I should be doing it
04:56for my dolls, you know?
04:57Yeah.
04:58I'm thinking I'm going to go pirate.
05:00Like, fierce female captain
05:03of a pirate ship, you know?
05:05I decide to take the shipwrecked approach
05:07with this look because the shoe is Victorian,
05:10which leads you to think corsetry and lace
05:13and all of the things I've already done.
05:15But if I can take us back out onto the sea
05:17and do something that feels more fun,
05:19I might catch the judges off guard.
05:21So I'm going to do a wide leg pair of culottes
05:23with a matching taffeta vest,
05:25some off-the-shoulder deconstructed puff sleeves,
05:28and a long train in the back.
05:30I'm excited for this.
05:32I don't know what I have to do
05:33to impress the judges this week.
05:35Two of my favorite looks I've done so far
05:37had me in the bottom, so that sucks.
05:40But I'm just trying to really let these shoes speak to me.
05:46The shoe screams 60s.
05:47So I'm referencing that classic mod silhouette
05:50of that A-line mini dress,
05:52and I really want the look to reference
05:55all of the lines happening on the shoes.
05:57And I'm going to find a way
05:59to sneak the color in subtly.
06:02All right, everybody.
06:04Time to go shopping.
06:05Let's do it.
06:06All right, designers.
06:11You have 30 minutes and $500 to shop.
06:16All right, go.
06:17Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
06:19Which gray will win?
06:24This is not what I'm looking for.
06:28I'm thinking I want to get chiffon
06:31because I want to do something a little bit different.
06:35But at the same time, that's still, like, Western.
06:39So I want to do a jacket with ruffle sleeves
06:43and a pair of chaps over a mini skirt.
06:47What do you think about this base of a skirt jacket
06:50and then the ruffles over it?
06:52Is it, like, bizarre?
06:54It's either going to be a hot mess or, like, haute couture.
07:00Yeah. Okay.
07:04All right.
07:05Where are you going to go with this?
07:06I'm going right here.
07:08Oh, wow. Okay.
07:10Mm-hmm.
07:11Mm-hmm.
07:12The word that's coming to my head
07:13is the word that I do not want to say out loud to you again.
07:16100%.
07:17I love that word.
07:18But also hate that word.
07:19Uh-huh.
07:20Remember, we're looking for high fashion.
07:22Oh, high fashion.
07:23Do you know how hard it is to make a red patent
07:26thigh-high boot not look kinky boots?
07:29All right.
07:30Hologram.
07:31We're holograming.
07:32Yes.
07:33I mean, this is very cool.
07:34I'm looking for holographic fabrics that actually matches the shoes.
07:39I want to make sure that whatever I'm selecting stays in that high fashion range
07:45because some holographic fabric have a tendency to look a bit cheap.
07:50Designers, 10 minutes left.
07:53We need you to hustle.
07:55There's literally not any pleated white fabric at all here,
07:59so I'm getting a little flustered and I'm just panicking.
08:02I just don't have the fabrics that I was looking for,
08:05so I'm trying to pivot.
08:07I decided to create a white pleather kind of overdress that has cutouts.
08:12That's definitely more me.
08:14Giddy up, cowgirl. Let's go.
08:16Yes, yes.
08:18Time is up.
08:20Ta-da.
08:21Grab your TD cards. We gotta go.
08:29Let's do it.
08:31Where am I?
08:32Let's go.
08:33I'm here.
08:34I'm back at our original spot.
08:35Oh, it's Foster.
08:37I'm with Curtis.
08:38Table Buddies for the first time.
08:40I know.
08:41There is a rumor that anyone who sits on the table with Curtis is going to be eliminated.
08:46Challenge number one, I'm Table Buddies with Naomi.
08:49Naomi, you are out.
08:50Challenge number three, I'm Table Buddies with Dalryumik.
08:54Dalryumik, you are out.
08:56Whether the table curse is real or not, watch out.
08:59You worried about the curse?
09:00Official high five.
09:01I am not worried about the curse because I'm a curse breaker, baby.
09:04Okay.
09:05A curse breaker.
09:06Okay.
09:07It is super important that I nail this because I feel like these shoes actually fit my aesthetic.
09:14I'm pretty happy with the shoe that I picked.
09:16My inspiration for this design is a girl that is clubbing in the year 3000.
09:21So I'm definitely thinking hologram vest top with a skin tight shirt and cargo pants.
09:28This is a great opportunity for me to actually show the judges what I can do and what my brand is about.
09:33I'm actually excited about this one.
09:35I'm happy for you.
09:41I didn't love being saved last week.
09:43It's not a great feeling.
09:45I'm just feeling a little bit overlooked.
09:47I'm pushing the boundaries and I need that to be recognized.
09:51It's a lot of damn work.
09:52What's your idea, Charles?
09:54I want to do like a bustier in a pan.
09:56The shoe itself is very feminine.
09:58It can pull lingerie.
09:59It can pull boudoir.
10:00It can pull old Hollywood.
10:02And I do not want to go in that direction.
10:04So I'm trying to bring more masculine energy to it.
10:07I'm going to be making these voluminous baby blue trousers with this structured peplum bodice.
10:13This challenge is called Step It Up and that's what I'm going to do.
10:16So I'm happy.
10:17I get to play with color.
10:18Nice.
10:19And I never want to play with color.
10:20I know this holographic material is a lot and it is very easy to make this look cheap.
10:29But I'm hoping to cut the red and the black up into mini squares and create my own fabric with it.
10:36Your checkerboard looks sick, Leland.
10:38Thanks, honey.
10:39You made that in like a minute.
10:41It was like three minutes, but...
10:42Heh.
10:53Hey, designers!
10:54Hi!
10:55Hello!
10:59Curtis, your fabrics are so fun.
11:01Tell me what you're going to do with them.
11:02So I got these lovely Victorian lace-up boots and I decided to take it to the high seas.
11:09Let's just make sure that when it's on the runway, it feels like fashion first, not pirate first.
11:14Yes, of course.
11:15I'll make sure it's still fashion.
11:16Your model's walking the runway, not the plank.
11:18At least we hope.
11:19Ha!
11:20The tide is rising!
11:21Woo!
11:22Don't drown!
11:25I came up with something that like really feels like me, you know?
11:29How are you going to bring it high fashion?
11:31Oh, I believe...
11:32Because this fabric is very like stretchy, very hologram-y.
11:37It's a little Superman-y camp.
11:40Sure, it gives me a little superhero and a little cosplay, but I also feel like sometimes like we all take fashion too seriously.
11:48I'm like, we need to have fun.
11:50I think it'll look really mod, and I'm hoping some cool really graphic stuff will not look superhero-y.
11:57I think it'll look a bit more high fashion.
11:59Great!
12:00All I want is high fashion.
12:02Great.
12:03Great.
12:04So what colors do you have?
12:06You have pink, blue, and white.
12:09Slut.
12:10For me, this is a big jump.
12:11I could go full on white with this look, but I don't want to.
12:15This competition is helping me figure out how I can express myself in new ways.
12:20And for me to play with color is kind of big.
12:25So you chose fabrics that I feel are very elevated.
12:30They're also very quiet and minimal.
12:33So how are you going to make this look really pop?
12:35I think I'm going to lean into my styling and tailoring menswear experience.
12:39Time has not historically been on your side.
12:42This time, I am definitely pushing myself.
12:44I am making a blazer and a super baggy pair of smoky gray pants in two days.
12:50I think it would be great for me to show the judges something that is new.
12:53I'm going to win this week.
12:55I'm stepping on the gas and working as fast as I can.
12:59Hey, Laura.
13:00Hi.
13:01You picked one of your favorite shoes.
13:03This shoe is very you.
13:04You've been given a lot of advice over the past several weeks.
13:08And I'm not sure how much of it you've actually listened to.
13:11Oh, great.
13:13Towards the end sometimes of the process, you can see that you're struggling and the execution isn't there.
13:19And that's what the judges are starting to notice.
13:21I am feeling very misunderstood by the judges.
13:24You're in the bottom for the last two weeks in a row.
13:27I think I should have won every challenge along the way.
13:29But it is not a good feeling to be in the bottom.
13:31And I really want that to change this week.
13:34I think that there's definitely a lot of things that I absolutely need to work on throughout the past couple weeks.
13:39And I'm trying to bring all those things in.
13:41What you've sketched is really good.
13:44I really appreciate that. Thank you.
13:45It is really good. And that's why you're here.
13:49She seems to really like my idea and be really encouraging of it.
13:52So I'm trying to focus on that.
13:54It's hard for me to really know what exactly the judges want because sometimes they're loving my storytelling.
14:00Sometimes they're saying it's too much.
14:02So I'm doing what I want and hoping that they like it.
14:06Designers, I think a lot of you made really safe shoe choices.
14:12And I'm not sure that the person who plays it safe is the person that's going to win $100,000.
14:19You've got three and a half hours.
14:21Let's see what you guys got.
14:24Bye.
14:25Get into it.
14:36I have to focus on the holographic vest.
14:42I want to get that done and get it out of the way because I want to see if this look is going to be high fashion enough.
14:48If not, then I could just scrap it.
14:50It can look very costumy and I'm just trying to stay away from that.
14:53The street can be high fashion.
14:54Can it though?
14:55Yeah, the street can be high fashion.
14:57I'm going to have to pull something out.
15:00Yeah, you'll be fine.
15:06It's a new day.
15:11I still think the competition is anyone's game, but I'm feeling pretty good about my design.
15:15It's definitely different from everyone else's.
15:17We have Rome doing a holographic jacket.
15:21Curtis is pirating it up.
15:23Leland is doing something that I simply cannot even understand what's going on over there.
15:28And I also see some ruffle thing from Kat.
15:32Girl, I don't know.
15:33How's your top coming?
15:35I did the bodice.
15:36I'm just waiting for the model, but I decided to scratch the skirt.
15:40Oh, yeah.
15:41I'll do pants instead.
15:42Last night in my room, I tried a pair of chaps over one of my miniskirts and it really didn't work.
15:50I'll just play it safe and do pants instead.
15:53We're not going to see a lot of the shoe, but we're going to see the inspiration.
15:58The shoe are going to be hidden by ruffles.
16:04You're such a technical person, Foster.
16:08Me?
16:09Yeah.
16:10You approach your work like you're very, you know?
16:15I never actually saw myself as that.
16:17I've been trying to make it as a designer for over 15 years, but my full time job is a PSW.
16:23I work with the elderly.
16:24Being a PSW and being a fashion designer, it's been really challenging.
16:28It's not enough to be hopeful.
16:29I need a sign.
16:30Sometimes you just need the reassurance.
16:33Well, I never said it looked good.
16:35Oh.
16:36I'm just kidding.
16:37Oh, my goodness.
16:38Isn't it fun being at a table with me?
16:41Oh, I love it.
16:42I wouldn't have it any other way.
16:45How are you going with your style?
16:47It's going good.
16:48I'm still going to keep it slightly street, but more elevated street.
16:54The whole point of this outfit is that I have to match it with the shoes.
16:58And so I still need this holographic fabric.
17:01And now I'm thinking maybe I do these triangle events using the hologram fabric.
17:07It's time the judges get on the train to Rome.
17:10This is the week.
17:12All roads lead to Rome.
17:15You're painting beads, why?
17:18I just want them to be really clean and blend in.
17:21My plan is basically to secure these panels together with white pearls and black thread,
17:27which will blend into the dress underneath.
17:30A bit of the black thread is poking through, so I grab some white paint.
17:33Let's make it look perfect and clean.
17:35You're like, why are you doing that?
17:38Being self-taught, I want to prove to my family that you can succeed.
17:42My parents moved here from the USSR before it was Russia.
17:46And my dad had some pretty high ambitions for me to be a doctor,
17:50and it was very hard for him to accept that I wasn't going to follow the path he wanted for me.
17:57And I want to prove that you are the person who can create your own destiny.
18:02Hey, everyone.
18:03Hey.
18:04All right.
18:05Who is looking for their soulmate?
18:07Ooh.
18:08Ooh.
18:09I've got your models.
18:10Yay.
18:11Come on in, everyone.
18:12Yay.
18:14Hey.
18:15So nice to meet you.
18:16You're so pretty.
18:17Hi, Christina. I'm Leland.
18:19Pleasure.
18:20So the pants is really perfect.
18:22I don't even think I'm going to change it at all, actually.
18:27I'm feeling great.
18:28I really like the ruffles.
18:30And the tweed adds a little luxury high fashion to the garment.
18:35Cool to see these attached.
18:37Yeah.
18:38So where are the other colors?
18:40So the plan is to have them underneath here.
18:42But do you think it would be better to shorten the thick band at the bottom or shorten this row?
18:47I think shortening the thick band at the bottom.
18:50Yeah.
18:51Because I think it feels heavy.
18:52The other thing that I would just say is, like, really making sure that these attachments feel clean and intentional.
18:58Yeah.
18:59Yeah.
19:00Definitely agree that that will be a priority.
19:01Excited to see it continue coming together.
19:02All right.
19:04Thanks.
19:05Zimbabwe.
19:06Yay!
19:07Give me, like, a huge flex.
19:08Just...
19:09Oh, my God.
19:10Uh, hello, gun show.
19:12Okay.
19:13These shoes can very easily give bedroom.
19:15Yes.
19:16And nothing about this look says bedroom.
19:17Yes.
19:18So you've really elevated the shoe.
19:19Taking the out of the...
19:20We're out of the boudoir.
19:21Out of the boudoir and we're hopefully at the Met Gala.
19:24Yes.
19:25I'm very happy.
19:26For me, I'm pulling out all the stops here.
19:28Here, up.
19:29Yeah.
19:30Feeling it.
19:31There, trusting you.
19:32Okay.
19:33I have not made trousers in this competition.
19:35So this is a huge leap for me.
19:37I want to win because if we're going to talk about pushing yourself to the absolute limits
19:42and then also designing a look based on a shoe that you didn't pick.
19:45Like, this is a huge challenge for me.
19:47So this moment will come in here.
19:50Today, I'm seeing all of my elements start to blend and merge into each other.
19:54And I'm feeling really confident in my textile choices as well as my silhouette.
19:58I mean, even the way that just felt, like, naturally.
20:01I'm obsessed with this.
20:02So the runway might be demanding a little bit more drama than what this is giving right
20:09now.
20:10Oh yeah, for sure.
20:11Because right now it feels really safe.
20:12Yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:13And I think in order to take it to a high fashion place for the runway, you just need
20:16to exaggerate something a bit more.
20:18Yeah, I'm already thinking.
20:19I'm already thinking.
20:20So from the front when she's coming down the runway, it'll just look like she's wearing
20:27an all black look with those.
20:29Yes.
20:30Is that too risky?
20:31Don't you think that there should be some nod to that shoe in the front of the garment?
20:36There just needs to be a connection to the shoe.
20:38Okay.
20:39Aurora is right.
20:40So what I'm gonna do is add vents around the front of the pants as well.
20:45This entire thing I'm gonna have to redo.
20:48All right.
20:49Models, time to head out.
20:50See you tomorrow.
20:51See you tomorrow.
20:52See you tomorrow.
20:53More than ever this week, we need these looks to be well executed, the highest of high fashion.
21:03I will leave you to it.
21:06Thank you, Aurora.
21:12Foster, what are you adding to your suit?
21:14I'm just adding some red accents on the shoulders.
21:18I picked this shoe specifically for the reason that I do not want to play it safe.
21:23I'm going to accentuate the shoulders.
21:25I'm gonna give them a little bit of drama and instead of baggy pants, I'm going to make a skirt.
21:30I just wanted to make it more interesting.
21:40I'm kind of having a bit of a freak out.
21:42I'm not happy with the pearls.
21:44You don't like the pearls.
21:45I don't like that you can see the black thread.
21:48I'm just feeling super frustrated.
21:50Take a sec.
21:51I'm so stressed out.
21:54You got this, honey.
21:56You got this.
21:57The judges have mentioned that my execution sometimes doesn't measure up and I don't know how to fix this.
22:03What am I going to do?
22:04Let's go!
22:16You got it.
22:17Let's get started.
22:18Runway.
22:19Runway.
22:20Ooh.
22:21Walking into the workroom this morning, we have so many little things to see through.
22:27But I think it's finally hit us that we're short on time and we're short on energy.
22:33I just need to move as fast as I possibly can.
22:36I wanted to do the vents on the pans but I don't have the time for it and this isn't a time to figure it out.
22:43Foster, how are you doing?
22:46This is just a weird place to be.
22:49I come in here and I'm like, yeah, I got this.
22:52And then I start sewing and I'm like, no, I don't got it.
22:55Yeah.
22:56And then so I have to keep the faith.
22:59I think being an immigrant in Canada, I'm not just here fighting for myself.
23:04I'm fighting for my parents to represent them, to give them something more than what they've achieved.
23:11So I just got to make this work.
23:18All right, designers.
23:19It is boots on the ground.
23:21No time to waste today.
23:24Models, come on in.
23:27Hi.
23:28Good morning.
23:30Hey.
23:31Oh my God.
23:32My models arrived and nothing is really completed yet.
23:35Give me two seconds.
23:37I'm going to pin this and then we'll get you fitted.
23:40You definitely brought some drama from yesterday.
23:44Yes.
23:45This is what I had in mind.
23:46Love that a lot.
23:47I put in some red fabric.
23:50What happened to the pants?
23:51You decided to do a skirt?
23:52I just felt like the pants would just be quite predictable.
23:55Do you think it's too long?
23:57As it is right now, yes.
24:00I'm going to shorten the length of the skirt because I want the shoe to shine.
24:04And then just focus on everything being like neat.
24:07Perfect.
24:08Clean.
24:09Sharp.
24:10Polished.
24:11Got you.
24:13All right.
24:14How are we looking?
24:15So I'm really happy.
24:17I think it's almost there.
24:19How much are we showing of the shoe?
24:21The shoe is an inspiration.
24:23Right.
24:24So the answer is very little of the shoe.
24:26Yeah.
24:27We see it and it's really working well.
24:29Yes, those shoes are ahead, but no, I don't think it's going to be a problem.
24:34This is actually like really well done, but this is a lot.
24:41Is there ever a world where you would consider just cutting these off?
24:46I don't know.
24:47It's just something to consider.
24:49The ruffles are perfect.
24:51She's crazy.
24:52I don't want to cut those sleeves.
24:54I will not cut them off.
24:55He will not cut it off.
24:56I love those sleeves.
24:58I'm not cutting them.
24:59Never.
25:00So what happened here?
25:03How did you?
25:04I glued it at least so that we could try it.
25:06I thought, you know, better it's all together than in pieces.
25:09What about O-rings in like a Paco Rabanne way?
25:13Okay.
25:14I'm going to go for the O-rings.
25:15We're going to make it happen, but I have no idea how long it's going to take.
25:19I've never done this before.
25:23Is it lower?
25:24Is it like a this kind of moment?
25:25The feathers are beautiful.
25:27I love this little dip painted feather moment.
25:31It's so edgy and fun.
25:33I think this is the vibe.
25:35It's giving a little Vivian Westwood sex collection.
25:37It's giving a little, like, Betsy Johnson.
25:40This isn't giving Vivian Westwood sex.
25:42Listen up.
25:44It'll make sense.
25:45It definitely, it will.
25:46Okay, I must have missed that.
25:47I must have missed that collection.
25:48I think so too.
25:49Is it high fashion?
25:52Yes and no, but it screams me.
25:56I'm not worried.
25:57All right, designers.
25:59An hour and a half until runway.
26:01Let's go, let's go, let's go.
26:07I have an hour and a half left, and I'm going to completely redo how this look is secured.
26:12I wish I hadn't wasted time on all the other options.
26:16The rings look good.
26:18Let's put this one on just to see what it looks like.
26:21I'm looking around the work room, and I don't see the shoe being the star.
26:27And I hope the judges see that.
26:29I'm just so happy with my buttons.
26:31Look.
26:32Kat's tweed ruffle thing.
26:36Let's just say I would not have chosen those fabrics.
26:40Okay, designers.
26:41When you're ready, start taking your models to the L'Oreal Paris Glam Room.
26:50I love a glowing moment, and I love shining skin.
26:53Oh, she's going to glow.
26:54I was thinking like a bold black liner.
26:57Oh, I love that idea.
26:59So I'm going to use the shadow stick that comes in shimmers and mattes.
27:03It's transfer proof.
27:04It's easy to glide on.
27:05And it's going to add this multi-dimensional feel so that the black doesn't just overwhelm her eye.
27:11I'm so excited to see how it turns out.
27:13Guys, we have ten minutes left.
27:15Oh, my God, you guys.
27:17The anxiety.
27:18Is anybody else freaking out?
27:20My hand's sewing as fast as I can.
27:23These zippers are gonna be the death of me.
27:26Oh, God.
27:28Do Project Runway, they said.
27:30It'll be fun, they said.
27:32Final looks.
27:34The runway's in one minute.
27:36Ay-yi-yi-yi.
27:37I'm just gonna futz with this front panel just to schmiedle.
27:42Let's see what's going on here.
27:44So I made this vest and I don't know whether I should keep it or lose it.
27:50We gotta make a game time decision here.
27:53This is what it looks like.
27:55If I remove it, then there's barely anything tying the outfit to the shoes.
28:00So it is gonna stay.
28:02Time to head to the runway.
28:03Let's go.
28:04Let's do it.
28:05Let's do it.
28:06Let's do it.
28:07Let's do it.
28:08Let's do it.
28:10Let's do it.
28:13Woo!
28:14Yeah.
28:15Let's do it like this.
28:16Let's do it like this.
28:17Let's do it like this.
28:18Let's do it like this.
28:19Let's do it like this.
28:22Hi, designers.
28:23Hi.
28:24Welcome back to the runway.
28:27This week, you were asked to create a look inspired
28:29by a distinct shoe style.
28:32A look that doesn't just match the shoe,
28:35but tells a story of its unique identity.
28:38And you all dove in feet first.
28:41But, just like a pair of flip flops,
28:44in this competition, you can be in one day
28:47and out the next.
28:50Please welcome your judges.
28:52Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
28:54Nice to see you.
28:55Fashion journalist, Jeannie Becker.
28:58Hi, designers, you all look so wonderful.
29:01And, meet the NFL's first ever fashion editor,
29:05stylist, Kyle Smith.
29:07Hi, designers.
29:08Hi.
29:09Kyle Smith is here.
29:12Fingers crossed he likes my look.
29:14Let's get this show started.
29:22Oh, she looks so good.
29:24This might be one of my favorite looks I've made
29:26during this competition.
29:28The fit is correct.
29:29The shoes are shining.
29:30And the cherry on top, a gorgeous train
29:34flowing from the back, just like the waves of the high,
29:37high seas.
29:41Oh, my model is stomping the runway and just serving it.
29:45I'm so proud of this look.
29:47It takes that period inspiration,
29:49but it brings it to all the things that I love.
29:51I'm really glad I pivoted to the O-rings.
29:53I just love that clean, circular shape,
29:56and I think it just worked so well for the look.
30:02I feel pretty confident in the design.
30:05This garment is built from the pair of shoes,
30:07and that was a challenge.
30:08The vest definitely is catching my eye,
30:11but I just want her to take it off
30:12so they can see the back.
30:14It has that iridescent thing going on,
30:17so when the lights are hitting it,
30:18it is hitting it in the right places.
30:22I want to show the judges tailoring
30:24and something that is adventurous and exciting.
30:28Of course, there's the red showing on the shoulders,
30:31and I am so glad I made the skirt shorter.
30:34My outfit really exists in the realm of the shoe.
30:38Now, that is high fashion.
30:42This looks a mix of an upper-edged side
30:45and a countryside girl.
30:47I really worked on those ruffles to be perfect
30:51and to blend in together
30:53and to fit in the color palette.
30:56I love it.
30:59This, to me, gives a bit of high fashion, you know?
31:02And I see the drag that I wanted to bring to it.
31:04I love it.
31:05It's so fun.
31:06I love the skirt.
31:08I love the corset.
31:09I love the feathers.
31:10It's really campy in me.
31:12Everything on it's super primo.
31:17For me, the shoe here is the star.
31:21I know women who would die to wear this.
31:25Trousers are really unexpected in this look.
31:28Just wanted to flex my couture muscle,
31:30and I just wanted to show my skill here.
31:33I feel like I deserve to win.
31:39Designers, please step up to the runway.
31:46Some of you knocked our socks off in this challenge,
31:49but unfortunately, it may be time for the other shoe to drop.
31:54When I call your name, please step forward.
32:02Charles.
32:06Curtis.
32:10You two are in.
32:12Congratulations.
32:13You can leave the runway.
32:16Congratulations, guys.
32:17oh we're in back to the couch i'm just confused because i honestly thought you'd be in the top
32:27i thought you'd be in the top but safe is just as sexy to me i'm kind of gobsmacked i poured my
32:33heart into that piece and for me to be safe is really strange the five of you make up tonight's
32:40highest and lowest scores but only one of you can be the winner let's start with one of our favorite
32:49looks of the night foster i'm really impressed with this look you let the shoe start the sentence but
32:59you finished it off with the outfit i picked this shoe because i wanted it to push me outside of my
33:04comfort zone i wanted it to be different i really love it i love the juxtaposition of the structure
33:09jacket and the flowy skirt i think there's something very poetic about it the draping of
33:14the skirt is gorgeous and it really shows off the shoes which was this week's challenge for me the
33:19cherry on top was the little piece of red and the little slits on the shoulders that's a very
33:24ambitious thing to create a jacket of that nature yeah and you're really pushing yourself and we all
33:31really appreciate that we're really proud of you foster good job thank you so much now let's bring
33:36out one of our least favorite looks of the night start putting my hands out
33:40had your hand out ready there around i wish there was no best as you made her take it off right now
33:50i'm curious why you didn't make her take it off before it cheapened that look i liked the best the
33:57silhouette was the only cool thing when i saw the back i said oh you incorporated the shoes you understood
34:03the point of this challenge but it was hidden it was hidden behind the vest i didn't see enough
34:09imagination in the look and i know that you're really capable of that i thought it was rather
34:14lackluster i think my biggest issue was the pants with the hem of the bell bottom you had the best
34:20shoes of them all i love those shoes but we really don't even know what that shoe really looks like
34:26to get this idea out makes sense let's bring out the next look which also received one of the lowest scores
34:34damn when i saw this come down i was getting maybe comic book character one of the criteria of
34:41this challenge was to make it feel high fashion when i got the like thigh high red hologram boot to me that like represents
34:50my community these boots are costume boots i get a little bit of what you're doing however taste wise
34:58to us it was a little cheap it felt like santa's helper on top jester in the middle and then the most
35:06gorgeous shoes i've ever seen on the bottom these boots maybe leland you're good under a little pressure
35:12and a little bit of constraints the denim challenge and the bathing tissue challenge those were your best
35:19looks i think this one's more costuming for me all right let's bring out our next favorite look of the
35:25night oh my god well this look made my heart sing i'm a child of the 60s i mean this is my era
35:36absolutely loved it i saw these gorgeous 60s boots and what came to mind was bringing in a bit more
35:43deconstruction and edginess you turn about house and you made a badass you know i really love this look
35:49i think the panels are very cool i think it brings in the lines but i think we needed some color but
35:55storytelling check and execution check yeah thank you this last design received one of the lowest scores
36:06so uh i got to pick cowboy boots i really wanted to uh to do a pair of chaps to make it a little bit
36:19more chic i don't even know it was a boot in every look there's been a little bit of a cowgirl and i think
36:25in this case the pan is consuming the look it's very beautifully constructed i think if you just cut
36:33away some of the frills actually could be quite nice less certainly could have been more thank you cat
36:43thank you designers we have some very tough decisions to make you can leave the runway thank you
36:53that was crazy that was wild super wild it's nice to have them say something nice for once i
36:59really had no idea how it was gonna go so just a huge relief right judges who do we think should win
37:05this week i loved foster i think if you could do a classic look and add your spin to it that's real
37:13talent i love the little peekaboo red you know it's it's elegant it's minimal it had a foster's
37:19handwriting all over it but there's no secret that i uh adore 60s fashion and i thought maya's take on it
37:28it was pretty fabulous those are some great details too it's the hardware we really saw what
37:33maya had to offer i love how she was able to take a concept and push it in like a bit of a
37:38a punk direction let's move on to who should be going home i did not like this leland look it was
37:47shockingly bad that was costumed to the max yeah again something that we have encouraged leland did he
37:53forget steer away from let's not forget cat did you know those were boots didn't even see the boots
37:59at all it was a kind of a turn off for me i think we could have done away with all the chiffon layers
38:05and frills it would have been so lovely if it was just that body suit i just don't understand the
38:13thought process there what about rome did not need the jacket wears something more awe-inspiring it
38:19certainly wasn't fashion forward except for the detailing on the back of the top okay that was
38:25the one strong point of that outfit all right i think we've made our decisions let's bring the
38:32designers back out maya yes foster we were impressed by the way you both paid homage to your footwear
38:46the winning look tonight was cohesive concise and felt high fashion the winner of this challenge is
38:55foster congratulations oh my god what i won that is wild because you put your best foot forward in
39:07this challenge td is stepping up with a five thousand dollar cash prize thank you so much it means the
39:14world to me i've been working hard to show you that i'm able to do it i'm so grateful the last few weeks

39:36are also in thank you you can both leave the runway
39:51rome leland cat your designs left us asking where's the high fashion which in this challenge
40:03was a huge misstep leland you are in you can leave the runway thank you so much i'm gonna go cry my
40:13eyeballs out thank you thank you i love you guys so much
40:19this was an incredibly difficult decision to make
40:26we know you're both talented but at this point in the competition the bar is high
40:30and both of your looks fell short i'm so sorry but you're both out
40:43both of us i wasn't ready for that i'm feeling devastated but even for the look tonight
40:51there's still no regrets thank you both so much can't wait to see what you guys do next

41:02oh my god wait so what's happening yeah we're both going home yeah what what yeah you're both going

42:16amazing designer next time on project runway canada each of you will design a high fashion fit that
42:25roars couture on a budget you may have to axe the dress oh is there a world where we cut it scandalously
42:33low opening the back the answer is no please welcome your guest judge christian sirian i thought
42:42it was kind of fabulous i don't know what you were seeing i think if the plaid was really done
42:47perfectly if it was done perfectly but it wasn't
