00:00Any team that needs a quarterback is probably in the same boat as the Jets.
00:02I'm not saying the Jets are different than pick a team that needs a quarterback and the Raiders or something like that.
00:09But Joe Burrow doesn't strike me as a guy. I don't know Joe Burrow. Maybe I'm completely wrong.
00:13It doesn't strike me as a guy that really would want to be in New York.
00:17Hello and welcome to Gangs All Here. My name is Ryan Sampson.
00:20That's Brian Costello, our Jets beat writer.
00:23And that's Frankie Vittorini from U Stadium.
00:24Today is Friday, December 12th, week 15 of the NFL season.
00:28The New York Jets are facing off against the Jacksonville Jaguars down in Jacksonville as a 13, 13 and a half point dog to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a season that continues to slog along for the Jets as they are 3 and 10.
00:42But we're going to talk about Josh Myers signing an extension today with the Jets.
00:46We'll break down the future of this offensive line.
00:49We'll talk about potential quarterback options for the Jets this offseason.
00:53And we'll obviously do our over-unders and picks for the game.
00:56But before we get to any of that, I'll start with Mr. Costello.
00:59How are you today, sir, on this Friday?
01:01I'm good, Ryan.
01:03Frankie, how you doing, buddy?
01:06Doing good, too, man. Doing good.
01:07This season's just trucking along here, ain't it?
01:10So, yeah.
01:11Just, you know, week by week we're taking it at this point, right?
01:14Week by week we are taking it.
01:16But I thought last episode was really good, fellas.
01:18And the conversation got a lot of good feedback in terms of, you know, where this Jets team is going with the quarterback.
01:24And we'll get to that in a second because that will be the biggest topic we talk about all offseason as well.
01:30But we got news today, Kaz, that Josh Myers, center for the New York Jets, who was on a one-year deal before the season,
01:37is signing a two-year extension with the team.
01:39What more can you say on Josh Myers now getting extended to have a three-year run with the Jets
01:44and solidifying his spot as the center of this team?
01:49Yeah, well, I kind of want to see the details, Ryan, before we say three years.
01:53I'm going to guess he's definitely here next year.
01:55And 2027 is probably a question.
01:58I'm going to guess just the way contracts are structured.
02:01They can probably get out of that pretty easily.
02:02But, like, yeah, he's a good signing for them in March.
02:05You know, I don't think we really talked much about him in March, right?
02:10Like, he didn't get a lot of attention.
02:12It was a one-year $3 million deal or $2 million deal.
02:14And we kind of were like, okay, he's going to back up Tippmann at center.
02:19And then, you know, ABT goes down, and he ends up being the starting center all season.
02:24I think he's been solid is the word I'd use.
02:27Like, I don't think he's been great, but I think he's been solid.
02:29And, you know, we'll see.
02:32Sometimes this is risky.
02:33That's the only thing I would say is sometimes you get a year out of a guy,
02:37and you should just be happy you got a year out of a guy.
02:39And then sometimes the team extends him, and it goes downhill quickly.
02:42So, you know, we'll see.
02:44But I think it doesn't seem like they gave him a lot of money, two years, $11 million.
02:48We'll see how it actually breaks down when the contract details come out.
02:52But, you know, I don't hate the move.
02:55Yeah, look, Josh is 27 years old.
02:57He started all 13 games for the Jets this year.
03:01You know, he's played 100% of the snaps.
03:03And like you said, he was put in this situation to be the backup to Tittman,
03:07and he stepped right in when ABT went down, sliding Tittman over to guard.
03:11And he's done a solid job, I think, is a great way to put it.
03:15You know, the question still remains, though, how do they – because now they have four
03:20out of five offensive linemen under contract for next year because Tittman's still on his rookie deal.
03:25So, could you potentially see the Jets addressing, you know, both the John Simpson left guard position,
03:32and could they bring more depth into the guard spot?
03:36Because I would argue the Jets need some more beef in the middle, if you know what I mean, Kodz.
03:40Like, I feel like they have two really good young tackles that are sending on the way up in terms of their trajectory.
03:46But I feel like the Jets could still have a little bit better run maulers in between the tackles.
03:54Yeah, if I had to guess right now, right, I bet they'd bring ABT back on a one-year prove-it type deal,
04:00and then they'd bring somebody else in as well.
04:02Like, whether that's signing a veteran or whether that's drafting a guy, maybe the third round, fourth round,
04:08that could come in and possibly compete and, you know, if ABT gets hurt again, step in.
04:14That, to me, makes sense right now as we're sitting here on, what is it, December 12th.
04:20You know, so we'll see as the offseason unfolds.
04:23But I can see – I think John Simpson's probably gone.
04:27You know, John Simpson and ABT are both free agents.
04:30But ABT, to me, feels like a guy who he's not going to get paid, obviously, coming off of an injury.
04:37So why not just run it back with him on a year deal and see if he can get healthy and have a good season?
04:41Yeah, look, ABT was voted as a team captain before he went down with the injuries.
04:46So we know that the team really respects him as a leader and a guy that they all can look up to.
04:51Frankie, if they do decide to bring back ABT on a one-year deal,
04:54how important is that for this offensive line to gel?
04:58The fact that they've had the same five starting all 13 games
05:02and that it's been a consistent rotation for this Jets offensive line.
05:07Yeah, man.
05:08I think they need this offensive line to be a strength of the team.
05:12So I think the more guys you can sort of lock in on, let's say, these shorter-term deals,
05:16I think the better, especially when you're talking about center and guard.
05:19I do want the Jets to address this, though, in the offseason, especially through the draft.
05:24I think you want to bring in a young center behind Myers and definitely maybe look at guard,
05:29depending upon how you view Simpson there.
05:34So, yeah, I don't know what ABT's market really is.
05:38I don't really think anybody does at this point.
05:40Once that becomes clear, I think we'll get a better sense whether or not he's a viable option for us.
05:45But I love ABT, man.
05:47He's been here for a bit.
05:49He's a leader based on what I've seen and heard from people that have played with him.
05:56Like, he's just – he's awesome.
05:58He's a great guy, and I think he's someone that if you want your offensive line to be a strength,
06:03you want guys like ABT up there.
06:05Yeah, no, I agree with you.
06:07It's just – it's been unfortunate luck for ABT with the injuries.
06:10Considering it's been two triceps injuries and Achilles injury that have all ended his seasons in the last four years.
06:18I mean, he's missed a lot of time in that span.
06:22But it's good to see that the Jets are somewhat building a strength for this team in the front line
06:27with their two tackles, now locking up Myers at center for another year, possibly two.
06:33And then we'll see what they do with the guard position and if they can strengthen that.
06:36And I think make this really an elite offensive line because that's something I think we all take for granted sometimes.
06:44But it's nice to see that the Jets are building some young foundation there.
06:49Look, they're building this foundation potentially for their next quarterback.
06:54And we had talked about it on the last episode, Kaz and Frankie, about, you know,
06:58are the Jets going to be able to trade up if they end up with another win this year,
07:03they end up with four wins, and they end in that five to seven range in the draft.
07:06It doesn't seem like a strong quarterback class right now with just Mendoza.
07:09We don't know the situation with Moore and Simpson.
07:12So are they going to be able to trade up for that quarterback?
07:15Kaz had mentioned, look, maybe not just because it's few options in the draft.
07:22So we haven't really talked about, and something we might talk about in the offseason is,
07:26could there be veteran options for the Jets to look at for the quarterback position
07:29that we haven't even talked about?
07:31So for Gag Sounds Off.
07:36I think I might have found a veteran quarterback option for the Jets.
07:43If I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it.
07:48You know, I've been through a lot, and if it's not fun, then what am I doing it for?
07:52So that's the mindset I'm trying to bring to the table.
07:59Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems frustrating.
08:02There's just a lot of things going on right now.
08:05A lot of things going on right now.
08:06Football-related, personally?
08:08All of the above.
08:08Like you said, there's nothing.
08:11All we can do is focus week to week and try to win games.
08:17I don't think anybody's really thinking about the playoffs right now.
08:21That's within reach, but on our fingertips.
08:29So we just got to keep doing what we're doing and try to get better.
08:35So look.
08:36Ooh.
08:37Look.
08:38A lot of people took it two ways for the Burrow sound.
08:42The first being that he seems disappointed, and you have to love what you're doing,
08:47which gives a lot of people thought about the Joe Burrow-Andrew Luck comparisons of a guy
08:53who's been beat up a lot in his career.
08:55He's dealt with a ton of injuries.
08:57He's been sacked a lot, more than any other quarterback in the NFL.
09:01And there's questions about, will he pull an Andrew Luck and just decide to hang it up?
09:07And I've had enough of this game.
09:09I've gotten the most out of it.
09:10I can.
09:10I just don't want to keep beating my body up.
09:12That's one angle.
09:13The other angle is how I'm presenting this to you, Kaz and Frankie.
09:17If he is disappointed in Cincinnati, and the Jets have all of this capital,
09:22five first-round picks in the next two years,
09:25Kaz, you've got to be picking up that phone in the offseason and saying,
09:28hey, what's it going to take for me to get Joe Burrow on the New York Jets?
09:33Am I crazy?
09:35You're not crazy to say they should pick up the phone.
09:38You're crazy to think it can happen.
09:41There's two huge obstacles, in my view.
09:44Okay.
09:44One, Joe Burrow has a no-trade clause.
09:47Why would he want to play for the Jets?
09:50He just said the word fun.
09:52I know.
09:53Fun.
09:53He had the word, you know, he's having fun.
09:55Has there been a lot of fun around here in the last 15 years?
09:58No.
09:59Right?
09:59Like, I just think if, and like, look, any team that needs a quarterback is probably in the same boat as the Jets.
10:05I'm not saying the Jets are different than pick a team that needs a quarterback and the Raiders or something like that.
10:11But Joe Burrow doesn't strike me as a guy.
10:13I don't know Joe Burrow.
10:14Maybe I'm completely wrong.
10:15It doesn't strike me as a guy that really would want to be in New York.
10:17It doesn't seem like a, like, that that would be the thing for him.
10:22Like, that he would desperately want to be here.
10:24He doesn't seem like a guy who wants to be in a ton of commercials and that kind of stuff.
10:27So, that's the one thing.
10:29The second thing is the Bengals, right?
10:31Like, the Bengals are a different organization than most organizations.
10:35Even if the Jets are throwing a ton of stuff at them, I just think the Bengals are going to dig their heels and then say, yeah, we're not trading them.
10:40Even if Joe Burrow's like, I don't want to play for this team anymore.
10:44We saw with Trey Hendrickson last year, right?
10:46They fought him all the way to the season.
10:50Going way back, Carson Palmer had to retire.
10:53You know, they wouldn't trade Carson Palmer.
10:54Retired, and I think then they traded him, what, like, a year later to the Raiders, something like that.
10:59So, this won't be like a, you know, I just can't see it happening.
11:04I'd be stunned if the Bengals traded Joe Burrow, and I'd be stunned if he was traded, if he picked the Jets as the team he wanted to go to.
11:11I also think if the Bengals do do this, they're going to ship him to the NFC.
11:16Like, you're still trying to win if you're Cincinnati.
11:20So, I think if you have, like, you know, I think you're trying to get him to the NFC.
11:23Now, the Jets maybe could go, oh, we have five draft picks.
11:26Exactly.
11:26That's my pushback.
11:27They have more capital than anyone else in the NFL right now to throw at the Bengals.
11:31Yeah.
11:31I think it's the one of the first two things is the big thing to me.
11:34I just don't see Joe Burrow wanting the Jets, and I don't see the Bengals just capitulating to what he wants.
11:39If that's what he wants.
11:41Yeah.
11:41I mean, I hear you, guys, completely on both points.
11:43But what I will say is a lot of people thought the same thing about Aaron Rodgers until he eventually made his decision that he wanted to come to the Jets.
11:50Yes.
11:53Aaron Rodgers is a guy, though, you can see wanting New York a little bit.
11:56Like, he doesn't.
11:57He does like attention.
11:59He does like, you know, he does like to be front and center.
12:02So, that sort of made a little sense there.
12:04And I think things, the writing on the wall by the end there was more with the Packers.
12:10You know, he also, how old was he when the trade happened?
12:12I can't remember.
12:1338, 39?
12:14I think he was 39 going on 40.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Joe Burrow is 29, am I correct?
12:19Which is why it's so tantalizing if the Jets were even.
12:23But not just Cincinnati.
12:24If I'm saying, like, for Cincinnati's view, why would Cincinnati trade him?
12:28Well, I think, again, they might have no choice if their quarterback says, I don't want to play for him.
12:32You always have a choice, Ryan.
12:34How many times do we hear this guy wants to trade?
12:36How many times do we hear that a year?
12:38Let's go San Francisco.
12:40Just take the 49ers.
12:41How many guys have demanded to trade from the 49ers?
12:43And they said, no.
12:44Like, you're not.
12:45We're not trading you.
12:46Like, more guys who demand a trade don't get traded than do get traded.
12:50Right.
12:50But there's certainly been a shift, though, I think, in the modern athlete now in the way in terms of NFL.
12:56Even professional teams now have gone sort of the NBA route where a player demands a trade.
13:00He's a star player.
13:02And they kind of are at the mercy of that player, either giving him a contract extension and paying him more money to stay here.
13:08Or they do end up having to force their hand and trade him because he doesn't want to play for them anymore.
13:12And he holds out.
13:14Yeah.
13:15I just think Lamar Jackson demanded a trade, right?
13:17Like, he's still in Baltimore.
13:19Like, there's been the last five years, I can name, like, 20 guys who demanded a trade and didn't get traded.
13:24Like, it happens all the time.
13:26And, again, the Bengals are a different organization.
13:29They operate in a different way than everybody and all the other 31 other teams.
13:35Frankie, what are your thoughts on all this of Joe Burrow?
13:37Well, my thoughts are this.
13:40You want to end this Joe Namath curse, this Broadway Joe curse?
13:44Get the new Broadway Joe in here.
13:46I think that's the way to do it.
13:48Get the new Broadway Joe.
13:50No, listen.
13:51I think the only way that this were to, if this were to happen, the only way that it would make sense for Joe Burrow is him telling himself,
13:59hey, I'm going to be able to go to a team that actually has a unit that we just spoke about, a really good O-line that will finally be able to protect me a bit.
14:09He's gone through injuries, and people have speculated why those injuries have happened, and they've blamed the O-line.
14:15I think it would be a home run for the Jets, but I agree with Kaz, man.
14:21It's, Ryan, this stuff, this is pipe dream stuff when you're talking about a 29-year-old.
14:27We're talking about an aging vet like Rogers was that's a little bit different.
14:31The market's not really there.
14:33Joe Burrow is a top-five quarterback, and you have teams.
14:38I would argue top three.
14:40You could argue that, yeah.
14:41You'd have teams lining up that even have quarterbacks that want Joe Burrow.
14:45You'd have the Texans with C.J. Stroud lining up.
14:48You'd have the Panthers with Bryce Young.
14:50You'd have everyone lining up, really, unless you have, you know, a Josh Allen, Lamar, or Dak,
14:56and maybe they would line up, too, the Ravens.
14:59Who knows?
14:59I'm just saying, so that's how good Joe Burrow is.
15:02You have to consider that.
15:04Right, but none of them have, Frankie, none of them have the Jets draft capital.
15:09None of them.
15:10That is true.
15:11That's what I'm trying to say to this about this all.
15:13Let's say in this crazy scenario that I'm laying out, Joe Burrow does one out,
15:18and the Bengals are getting their hand forced.
15:21I just, the Jets would be crazy not to go all in and say,
15:25we're going after Joe Burrow.
15:27We're offering the five first-round picks.
15:28Whatever it's going to take, we'll take the contract.
15:30You'd offer them all?
15:31I'd offer them all for him because Frankie and Kaz.
15:35Well, hang on, guys.
15:35So, let's be honest here.
15:37No, it's not that crazy, but it is crazy.
15:39It is crazy.
15:40The only issue I have with Joe Burrow is his health, right?
15:43Like, you're, he hasn't been able to stay healthy, right?
15:46Like, you do have to take that into account.
15:49A hundred percent, but he's also the only guy I've seen take the Bengals to the Super Bowl
15:53in my lifetime and also be able to do what he's done at this, at this age.
15:59I just, you're talking about a franchise that has not won anything recently and hasn't been
16:04to the playoffs in over 15 years, going on 16, and we're lacking that franchise quarterback
16:09since Joe Willie Naiman.
16:11So, if you're telling me I could get my franchise guy, hell yes.
16:15I am all in.
16:16Because the other thing, Frankie and Kaz, that we haven't mentioned is,
16:19you don't have to draft the guy and hope that he develops into a Joe Burrow.
16:24You know what you're getting with Joe Burrow, which is superstar quarterback.
16:29If he's healthy.
16:30If he's healthy.
16:31That's the one.
16:31That's the one.
16:32But the Jets have a better offensive line to protect him.
16:35They have a better offensive line to protect him than the Bengals do.
16:38He's still playing football, though.
16:39Like, you know, I get it, but it's not, that's not all on the offensive line.
16:43But he's the most sacked quarterback in the NFL.
16:45I get it.
16:46I get it.
16:46But, like, I'd have to look at every injury he's had, though.
16:49Has it all been on sacks?
16:51Well, the foot injury, the toe injury that he just had was because he was
16:54constantly under pressure, and he's trying to, I mean, like.
16:57I know.
16:58He's still playing football, though.
16:59Like, you're, I realize we're putting the Jets tackles in the Hall of Fame
17:04already, but, like, their offensive line is okay.
17:07It's okay right now.
17:08Like, let's not, like, this isn't.
17:10So, I just, I still think the injuries would be a concern.
17:13But, yeah, I get it.
17:14They have to, they would have to try if he was available.
17:16I agree with you, like, it's a home run if they can do it.
17:18But, I don't know if I'd give up five first-round picks for him.
17:23Ryan, I'll ask you this.
17:24Is Joe Burrow, is he used goods?
17:28Is he, like, a used car, or is he more towards a new car?
17:31Because I'm thinking he's a little bit more towards a used car at this point,
17:36given the injuries.
17:37No.
17:37I'm just saying, I don't think you're getting, you're not getting.
17:40You're getting prime Joe Burrow.
17:41You're getting prime Joe Burrow.
17:42If Joe Burrow came here and the Jets, if Joe Burrow came here
17:46and the Jets still stunk, that would end all of you guys.
17:49Yeah, it would.
17:50That would be the end.
17:51That would be the end, right?
17:52I think, I feel like the Rodgers piece, the Rodgers piece broke a lot of Jets fans.
17:58Burrow, if Burrow was here and the Jets were still bad,
18:00that would just demolish the entire fan base.
18:02It would be the last season in the Netflix documentary of the Jets fan base.
18:08It'd be the ultimate, like, this franchise is cursed.
18:11This franchise is ultimately cursed and it's never going to win again.
18:13But, again, Frankie, I disagree with you tremendously on this point.
18:17Like, Joe Burrow, I understand.
18:18I hear you guys on the injury part.
18:19I think he's been beat the hell up,
18:21and that's why you're hearing the comments he's making right now.
18:23The team has not supported him the way they should have
18:26in terms of the offensive line and protecting him.
18:28And I also don't think his offensive coach, his head coach, is a great coach.
18:31To be honest with you, and Zach Taylor, I never thought he was a good head coach.
18:35I don't think he puts him in the best offensive scheme.
18:37I think he's frustrated with that, too.
18:39So, there's a lot of elements there.
18:41And I just think, if you're telling me, a 29-year-old, in his prime,
18:45one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL,
18:47and you could trade a ton of assets to get him,
18:50it's a proven commodity.
18:51And I wouldn't hesitate to ever go for that.
18:54And the Jets have a ton of caps for it, too.
18:55Go ahead.
18:56Sorry, let me just ask you a question.
18:58Last year, or two years ago,
19:00I was very concerned about that wrist injury that he sustained
19:04because they were saying that he might never be able to throw the ball the same again.
19:08Now, he's proven that to be wrong, I'd say.
19:10But does it creep back up?
19:14Is he going to have lingering issues with that in a year or two if he takes a hit?
19:17I mean, I'm just saying.
19:18Patrick Mahomes has got a knee brace on.
19:20I mean, Patrick Mahomes has got a knee brace on.
19:22We saw him nursing that this past weekend.
19:24Like, are you concerned about that knee injury constantly flaring up?
19:28Like, that's what I'm saying, though, Frankie.
19:30Like, it's just, you never know with these guys.
19:31This wrist thing was scary, though.
19:33It was potentially career-ending they were talking about at the time.
19:36I'm just saying this is one of, like, five injury issues with Burrow.
19:39And, Ryan, I'm with you.
19:41Two first-rounders, yes.
19:42Three, yes.
19:44Five, uh...
19:45I'm the same word.
19:48I have three first-round picks.
19:49I would do it.
19:51I would do it.
19:51If you had to trade the two picks in 26 and the Jets pick in 27, and then probably have to throw, like, a second-round pick in as well, go for it.
20:04Like, I'm with you on most of this, Ryan.
20:06Like, he is a...
20:07I think he is in his prime.
20:09I don't think he's done.
20:10I think quarterbacks are a different timeline than every other player.
20:14So, I think he can play for a long time still.
20:16I think if you think about Peyton Manning going to the Broncos and what he did there late in his career, Tom Brady with the Buccaneers, and this guy isn't even close to being that late in his career, I would have...
20:26I just don't know what player I'd give five first-round picks up for.
20:29Like, that's...
20:30You do have other holes on this team.
20:32Completely.
20:33Yeah.
20:34So, I just...
20:35I would hesitate to do five, I think.
20:37Yeah.
20:37I mean, look, you also have a ton of cap space to play with.
20:39They still...
20:40Yeah.
20:40I mean, again, we're playing the whatever.
20:42But free agents suck.
20:45They do.
20:46They do.
20:47All right.
20:48That's a fun conversation, but I think it sparks different parts of your mind here, Kaz and Frankie, about, like, those veteran quarterback options that we haven't even talked about, which is why I thought it was fascinating after our episode.
20:59It's like, holy crap, Joe Burrow does not sound happy in Cincinnati right now.
21:03And it just makes you wonder, like, what other quarterbacks could become available in the offseason that we're not even talking about.
21:09Yeah, that's happened the last few years.
21:10I mean, the last five years, that's happened, where, like, look, the Detroit-LA trade was a shock.
21:16They're playing this week.
21:17Like, that Stafford-Goff thing, no one saw that coming.
21:19The Rodgers deal, like, Rodgers, that was shocking when he actually became available when we realized that.
21:25And, you know, there's always a surprise, it feels like, in January, February now.
21:31So, definitely somebody could shake for you that we're not talking about.
21:33Yep, so it just, it makes you think about it.
21:36And, look, we have still a month to go before the season is over, but I am getting excited about just talking about these things with finding the next Jets quarterback and hopefully a franchise quarterback for them.
21:48Rod, I have another name for you really quick, though.
21:49Go ahead.
21:50I have another veteran quarterback name who's had some success in this league, who was also a former first overall pick.
21:56Can I fancy you in a little bit of Kyler Murray, sir?
22:00I know what you're doing, Frankie.
22:01No.
22:03No.
22:03Kaz, you have no idea.
22:05Ryan's going on this little roundabout on social and on shows proclaiming that he will denounce his Jets fandom if the Jets get Kyler Murray, that he's done with the team.
22:17He's done.
22:17Yeah, yeah.
22:18So, I'm just letting you know this.
22:19This is out there in the ether there, yep.
22:22But, I've now become a proponent of getting Kyler Murray because I want to see what happens with Ryan.
22:28I mean, I'm not hosting the show anymore, then.
22:30Frankie and you guys.
22:31No, no, no, no, no.
22:32I'm being dead serious, guys.
22:33I know for a fact.
22:34You're the host.
22:34I can't host.
22:35You can host.
22:36I can maybe co-host.
22:37Maybe.
22:38So, look, guys, the whole Kyler Murray discussion, again, fascinating one.
22:42Here's what I'll say about Kyler Murray, and I've said this on other platforms, and I'll say this to you guys.
22:48I know for a fact.
22:50I know for a fact.
22:51Kyler Murray does not love football.
22:53He doesn't.
22:54So, I know for a fact if the Jets were to go all in and trade for him and bring on that horrendous contract for a guy who, you want to talk about injuries, has had some injuries lately, who's undersized, doesn't have the strongest arm in the NFL,
23:07and at the end of the day, you guys will feast, and I'm talking about you, guys, you will feast on him in the media because he doesn't love football, he will give you a pouty attitude, and he's not a leader.
23:18And there's a reason why they played better football with Jacoby Brissett behind center.
23:23So, if the Jets decided to bring Kyler Murray in here, I am done with this franchise because they're not a serious franchise.
23:29If you bring Kyler Murray in as a quarterback to start for your team, you're not a serious organization.
23:33What if they brought Kyler Murray in and were drafting a quarterback?
23:38Like the idea that they were going to have a competition between the two in August and a Russell Wilson with the Giants.
23:44Yeah, if it's a vet minimum, right?
23:47Like, that's the only situation where I could see it's salvageable, but you cannot bring him in on that contract.
23:52That deal is horrendous.
23:53I'd be shocked if someone picks up that contract, yeah.
23:56So, look, if you're telling me it's a...
23:57The Cardinals are going to have to eat that.
23:58Yeah, the Cardinals are going to have to eat it, but like if it's a vet minimum, and they drafted a first-round quarterback,
24:03like you're laying out cause, you got me still.
24:06You're okay with that.
24:07I'm okay with that, but I was talking about like, and what Frankie and other people were laying out to me.
24:12Him as a starter.
24:13Him as a starter and not bringing in competition, even on a bridge, like I don't want that.
24:18That's not...
24:19That's...
24:19You're going to lose football games.
24:21I'm just telling you right now.
24:22He's not a winning quarterback.
24:24He's never been a winning quarterback in the NFL.
24:27And I just don't think the...
24:29I know he doesn't love football.
24:32I don't want my quarterback not loving football.
24:34I know that sounds crazy, guys, but like, if Philip Rivers loves football, the man is coming out of retirement at 44 years old,
24:41must watch TV this weekend.
24:42That guy lives, eats, and breathes football.
24:45Kyler Murray does not.
24:47He's never been that way.
24:48So, and he's also proven he can't win.
24:52He's had DeAndre Hopkins in his prime, and they never did anything with that.
24:56It's just to me like that you're signing up for more of the same cause where you're going to be stuck in this middle ground of never being good,
25:04too good, never being really bad, and at the same time, you're like, I have no idea where the hell we are at quarterback purgatory.
25:11Who is our franchise quarterback?
25:13Sure as hell ain't Kyler Murray because he's giving us mixed signals on and off the field.
25:16It'd be a disaster.
25:20There have been stretches in his career that I'll say this.
25:23I'm not advocating for Kyler Murray, but Ryan, there have been stretches in his career where Kyler Murray's looked awesome.
25:29There's a reason he got that deal.
25:30I mean, he can run with it.
25:31He could throw it all over the yard.
25:33He's tough to bring down.
25:35He's like Pac-Man back there trying to get him.
25:39But, yeah, I'm with you there.
25:42I'm with you.
25:43I am.
25:43I wouldn't go as far as you have, which I thought was pretty funny.
25:48If they trade for him in that contract, you're signing up for QBL again.
25:54Again, Frankie, the most touchdowns he's thrown for in his career, 26.
25:59I just threw that up, too.
26:00Yeah, I'm kind of shocked.
26:01I thought he had a year he at least had like 4,200.
26:04He's never thrown for 4,000 yards.
26:08His second year, though, he almost hit that, which is pretty impressive.
26:123,971 in your second year is good.
26:16But, yeah, since then, he's been trending down.
26:19He tried to have a little resurgence last year, but, yeah.
26:23No, I'm with you, man.
26:23I'm with you.
26:24Am I crazy, Kaz, for that kind of take, or you don't know about Kyler Murray, the person you're not ready to comment?
26:29I wouldn't take Kyler Murray.
26:31I don't want Kyler Murray.
26:31I mean, renouncing your fandom might be a little extreme over that, but they've been beating me down.
26:39Like, you know what I mean?
26:40I get it.
26:40I get it.
26:41But, yeah.
26:42Yeah.
26:43He's –
26:44I have a feeling it might happen, guys.
26:48I'm just kidding.
26:48All right.
26:49I just thought that was funny when Ryan said it this week because he went on a show and he said it, and I was like, wait, what?
26:54I'll make the proclamation here for all you fellas.
26:56If they bring Kyler Murray in to be the starter with no competition and they have the contract from the Cardinals on the books, Ryan Sampson is no longer a Jets fan.
27:05I will be a free agent just watching NFL because I love the NFL and I love football.
27:10But this franchise does not deserve my fandom if they're going to put Kyler Murray on my eyes and make me watch that at MetLife every frigging Sunday.
27:17It's just – it's going to be horrible.
27:19Horrible.
27:21All right, fellas.
27:21Let's move over to –
27:22Becoming a Jaguars fan if that happens.
27:23That's a good team.
27:24No, I don't like Trevor Lawrence either.
27:25I don't like Trevor Lawrence either.
27:26All right.
27:27So let's talk about this game against Trevor Lawrence.
27:30Key matchups.
27:31I'll start with Frankie.
27:33What's your key matchup this weekend for Jets versus Jaguars?
27:36Well, I'm doing this for the first time on our preview show.
27:41I'm going to go back to my key matchup the week before.
27:44It's Brees Hall against that Jaguars front, specifically those linebackers.
27:50Those Jacksonville linebackers are arguably the best in football.
27:54Foye Aluokan is unbelievable.
27:57Yeah, he's been atop of the league in tackles for years now.
28:00Underrated, doesn't get spoken about enough.
28:03And Devin Lloyd is having a monster year, as he's had for the most part there in Jacksonville.
28:09Those two guys there do a great job of just seeing what's going on in that front, sniffing it out,
28:16getting their defensive linemen to sort of put pressures in certain ways and stunts,
28:22and then they cover on the opposite sides there.
28:25They're great in traffic.
28:27We're going to have to see what Brees, I mean, it's going to be interesting to see what we have
28:32with Brees Hall in this game, because if we want to win this game, Brees Hall's got to get the ball
28:37moving on the ground.
28:38We're probably going to start this, you know, undrafted free agent quarterback in Brady Cook.
28:43Brees is going to have to do something this week.
28:45Again, we spoke about, or I spoke about it to you guys last week, the yards per carry thing.
28:50He had, again, a bad game when it comes to yardage on the ground.
28:5543 yards on 14 carries.
28:58That's 3.1 yards to carry.
29:00Brees has got to be around at least 3.7, 3.8.
29:04Jacksonville also has the best rush defense in football.
29:07They gave up the least amount of yards on the ground in the NFL.
29:10So, let's see what Brees got this week.
29:13That's a good one.
29:14Kaz, what do you got for me this week?
29:16I would add to that with Frankie.
29:17Brees also dealing with a knee injury.
29:19Yeah.
29:19So, I'm skeptical of what you're going to get out of Brees this week.
29:22He didn't practice Wednesday.
29:23It was limited Thursday.
29:24It looked like when Brady Cook fumbled last week, and I think Brees recovered it.
29:29It jumped out.
29:30It looked like that's when he hurt his knee to me.
29:31I haven't talked to him, but that looked like he got up a little slow after that.
29:36So, yeah, the number one run defense.
29:39You know, my matchup this week, Ryan, will be Jets fans versus their remote control.
29:44I don't see how they – I'm curious to see how long Jets fans can last watching this game
29:49because this just feels like just like a slog to me.
29:53Like, I don't think they're going to get their doors blown off necessarily
29:57because I got a feeling Jacksonville is going to come out sleepwalking.
30:00But, you know, watching Brady Cook, I don't know how you get excited about that
30:04if you're a Jets fan, you know, it's just – you're 3 and 10.
30:09It's December.
30:09Like, maybe you got some Christmas shopping to do,
30:12so you're going to turn it off at 2 o'clock and head to the mall.
30:15Maybe you're still doing your decorations.
30:17You know, some of us are married.
30:20You have to sort of broker how much football you watch on a Sunday,
30:23and maybe you want to watch the Sunday night game and the four-line,
30:26and you're like, all right, all right, honey, let's watch –
30:29let's catch up on that Netflix show we've been watching.
30:31So, that's my key matchup for Sunday, Ryan, is Jets fans versus their remote control.
30:35How long can they last watching this game?
30:37Kaz went a different route as well for the first time this season,
30:40picking that one off the field.
30:42Look, the only reason Frankie and I are watching this game
30:45is because we have to do a post-game show to talk about it in a said game.
30:49No, look, I'm in the same boat as you, Kaz.
30:51Like, there's nothing about this game that is appealing to me as a fan.
30:54It's going to be a slog just like the Dolphins game, in my opinion.
30:57Once Tyrod went out, it was just like, oh,
30:59I can't believe I have to watch this the rest of this way.
31:02Look, I could go chalk and say,
31:04I'm actually looking forward to seeing the special teams unit,
31:07like Isaiah Williams had to see the look in the return game, right?
31:09Like, I could do that.
31:10But I'm actually going to probably pick something that I think needs to show
31:15some signs of life and be challenged a little bit
31:18if Steve Wilkes wants to have a job at the end of the year, guys.
31:21It's Quincy Williams and Jamie and Sherwood.
31:23These two linebackers and Kiko, if he is playing,
31:26these guys have to be able to handle Travis Etienne
31:29because Etienne has looked pretty good this year in this offense.
31:33And I think the Jets are going to have, again,
31:35a really tough, tough matchup to face against this Jaguars running attack
31:39because Travis Etienne looks really good.
31:42I know they got Basil Tootin.
31:44They have some players that can run the ball.
31:46And I just think the Jaguars,
31:47if they can just get it rolling again on the ground,
31:49like they saw the Dolphins do,
31:51it's going to be a long day for the Jets defense again, guys.
31:53So that's my key matchup this weekend.
31:56Etienne had a good couple games, too, in a row there.
31:58He's been playing really well.
32:00Yeah.
32:01All right.
32:01Let's do stump Kaz.
32:03I know.
32:05Yeah, yeah.
32:05Kaz has got me a couple weeks in a row.
32:07I know where you're going with this.
32:07Do you?
32:08Yes.
32:09What's the question?
32:10I think you're going with the last time the Jets played the Jaguars
32:15in the playoff.
32:16No.
32:16Who?
32:17Okay.
32:17No.
32:18Way off.
32:19Way off, Frankie.
32:20Ready?
32:20Ready?
32:22Kaz, Frankie, Brady, Cook had two interceptions last week.
32:26Kaz, what Jets rookie quarterback holds the record for the most
32:29interceptions thrown in a single game?
32:33Mark Sanchez.
32:34Bang!
32:35He got it right away.
32:36Wow.
32:37Mark Sanchez, five interceptions versus the Buffalo Bills on October
32:4118, 2009, and 16-13 loss.
32:44Do you have the box score up, Ryan?
32:47I can pull it up for you right now.
32:49Check out the yards rushing.
32:51Yards rushing in that game for the Jets.
32:53Thomas Jones specifically, but overall total yards by the Jets rushing
32:58in that game.
32:58The Jets rushed for 318 yards.
33:01Thomas Jones, 210.
33:04And they lost.
33:05And they lost.
33:06I ran for 300 yards and lost.
33:08What's that running game?
33:10Five interceptions.
33:11They actually threw six interceptions in the game.
33:14Who threw the other interception?
33:15Oh, bonus question.
33:19Steve Weatherford.
33:20Steve Weatherford threw an interception.
33:22Yeah, I remember that.
33:23Yeah, I remember that one.
33:26So, I thought that was pretty interesting, the fact that Mark Sanchez holds the
33:29record for the most rookie, most interceptions thrown by a rookie
33:32quarterback in a single game.
33:34That might have been when they introduced the wristband for him after that,
33:38the green, yellow, red.
33:40Do you remember that story?
33:41They made him wear a wristband, and they would say before the play,
33:44this is a green player, and he could be aggressive.
33:46This is a red play, and not be aggressive.
33:47I don't remember if it was after that game, or he had another one against
33:50New England where he threw a bunch of interceptions.
33:52It might have been after that one.
33:54But, yeah, look, Brady Cook, just don't break that record this weekend,
33:57please, or tie that record.
33:58Like, and also –
34:01Well, I thought – I don't know if you guys – did you see Todd Bowles'
34:04press conference last night?
34:04Oof.
34:05I loved it.
34:06He dropped seven F-bombs, and –
34:09The only other time I saw Todd like that was after the fifth-six
34:12interception game.
34:13After that game, Todd swore like crazy to get in the post-game press conference.
34:18I had never seen him that mad.
34:19So, that reminded me of that last night.
34:22Yeah.
34:22So, hopefully, Brady Cook gets a better play from his wide receivers as well
34:26to stop dropping the ball and stop having balls go off your hands
34:30and interceptions, Mason Taylor.
34:34All right, let's do over-unders, and then we'll pick this game.
34:37Last week, Kaz, five and one.
34:40Last week for Mr. Costello.
34:42Frankie, three and three, so 500.
34:45I'm back.
34:45On the season, Mr. Costello is 46 and 39, up seven units.
34:51And now Frankie's total is 35 and 50.
34:54You are down 15 units for the season.
34:57Can I ask something?
34:57I'm asking for an amendment on a few of those over-unders.
35:01No, you're not getting it.
35:02Can I give you my reason?
35:03No, you're not getting the Tyrod Taylor one.
35:05You're not getting that over.
35:06No, no, no.
35:06I don't want that.
35:07I picked first touchdowns with some pretty stretch plays there with some
35:13higher-odd plays, and I think I deserve some consideration to take
35:17those off my over-unders.
35:18Nope, you're not getting it.
35:20Last week, Tyrod Taylor, 178 and a half pass yards.
35:23Kaz had the under.
35:24Frankie had the over.
35:24That's a loss for Frankie.
35:26Tua Tungavailoa, 217 and a half pass yards.
35:29Kaz had the under.
35:29Frankie had the under.
35:30Those are both wins.
35:32Jalen Waddle, 67 and a half receiving yards.
35:34Both of you fellas had the under.
35:35Those are wins.
35:36Adonai Mitchell, 49 and a half receiving yards.
35:39Kaz had the under, and Frankie had the over, so Kaz got the win there.
35:42Devon Achan, 82 and a half rush yards.
35:46Kaz had the over.
35:46Frankie had the over.
35:47Wins for you guys.
35:48Quarter and a half, Kaz.
35:50Yeah.
35:51You caught it in the first quarter almost.
35:54Breece Hall, 70 and a half rush yards.
35:57Kaz had the over, and Frankie had the over.
35:58Both of you lost on that one.
36:00So now we're going to do this week.
36:01And I got some lines here, fellas.
36:04They don't have a Breece Hall line, so we will not have Breece Hall on this
36:06over-under.
36:07But they do have Brady Cook.
36:09They have his passing yards here.
36:10So we'll start there with Brady Cook, Kaz.
36:12155 and a half pass yards.
36:15I will note this before you make your pick.
36:17Do you guys know that they have a line for Philip Rivers passing yards over-under?
36:21And he has less passing yards over-under than Brady Cook this week.
36:25Brady Cook is at 155.
36:27Philip Rivers is at 152.
36:29How about that?
36:30That's interesting.
36:31I mean, Brady Cook's a lot younger than Philip Rivers.
36:33He's practiced for three months.
36:35Brady Cook's also an undrafted rookie.
36:37I'm going to go over-right with this as my idea.
36:43I think he's going to have a lot of fourth-quarter passing yards.
36:47So I thought, like, last week, I thought he compiled a lot of yardage at the end of the
36:51game.
36:51So I'll go over with the idea that it's going to be in the fourth quarter.
36:55Frankie?
36:57You know what?
36:57I'm going over, too, man.
36:59But I'm going over for a different reason.
37:01I think Brady Cook's going to have some deep balls down the field, man.
37:05He's going to chuck it down the field.
37:06I think Aidy Mitchell's going to have 80.
37:09If you want a bet of the week, and you shouldn't be taking advice from me at all, I'm betting,
37:13that's for sure.
37:13If you do want a bet of the week, Aidy Mitchell over whatever his longest reception is.
37:19I'm telling you, Brady Cook's got an arm back there.
37:21I think Aidy's going to get something for 40 to 50 yards.
37:24If he doesn't drop it.
37:25If he doesn't drop it.
37:26That's a good point, yeah.
37:27If he doesn't drop it.
37:28If he gets one of those, it's the over he's going to hit probably.
37:32Trevor Lawrence, 218 and a half pass yards.
37:35Kaz.
37:37Hmm.
37:39Um.
37:40I'll go under.
37:42Okay.
37:42Frankie.
37:44I'm going to go over.
37:46Barely over, but I'm going over.
37:47Now let's talk about his rushing mate.
37:49Travis ETN.
37:5172 and a half rush yards.
37:53Over.
37:54Yeah.
37:56Frankie.
37:57Same.
37:57Over.
37:58At nine Mitchell.
38:00Frankie's guy who says he's going to get a long catch in this one.
38:03They got him at 40, four, zero and a half receiving yards.
38:07Kaz.
38:09Four, zero.
38:10Ah, man.
38:13I'll go over.
38:14Okay.
38:15Maybe Kaz is buying into Frankie's theory.
38:17Frankie.
38:17You have to take the over, right?
38:19I have to take the over.
38:20All right.
38:2140 plus.
38:21This guy's going to have a 70 yard catch.
38:23Uh, so far you guys have all picked, uh, no, only, uh, Trevor Lawrence is where you've
38:27been different.
38:28Jacoby Myers.
38:3053 and a half receiving yards.
38:32Kaz.
38:33Under.
38:34Frankie.
38:38Under.
38:39All right.
38:40And now let's go to John Mechie.
38:4235 and a half receiving yards.
38:45Kaz.
38:4735.
38:49Oh.
38:51Under.
38:52Frankie.
38:54I'm going to go under also.
38:55Wow.
38:56You guys only different on one pick.
38:58So Frankie's not going to make much room of it if he tries to this week.
39:00Eh, whatever.
39:02You've caused one five and one last week.
39:03He did.
39:04So, I mean, I've got to take what I can get at this point.
39:06All right.
39:06Let's pick this game.
39:08Jets, 13 and a half point dogs.
39:09Uh, Frankie was the only one that had the dolphins last week.
39:13So I'm going to let Frankie pick first jets versus Jaguars.
39:16What's your prediction?
39:18All right, guys.
39:20Um, looking at this game.
39:23And again, we're just looking at the game.
39:25I know fans are like, Oh, I want them to lose.
39:27I want them to this, whatever.
39:28Let's just talk about the game here.
39:30Um, Trevor Lawrence has been playing a lot better the last couple of weeks.
39:33I think he's starting to really understand what Liam Cohen wants to do there.
39:38Uh, Trevor Lawrence.
39:39Actually, I was looking at some next gen stuff.
39:41He actually has one of the best passer ratings when he's not play actioning.
39:46So he's actually really good at when he's just standing in the pocket, sort of reading
39:49what's going on and, and trying to dissect and do what Liam Cohen wants him to do.
39:54Uh, he's been getting the ball out a lot faster the last couple of weeks too.
39:58I just really like also their, uh, I like their receiving core in a weird way.
40:04I know earlier on in the season, Brian Thomas Jr.
40:07Was struggling.
40:08So a lot of people said, Oh, you know, the receiver stink.
40:11I like Brian Thomas Jr.
40:13I like Parker Washington.
40:15We just spoke about Jacoby Myers.
40:17Um, so I just think with what Liam Cohen does.
40:21And again, one of the top offensive coordinators last year in the game, transitioning into this
40:27head coaching role.
40:28He's going to look at what teams have done against us, Ryan and Kaz with these misdirections.
40:33And he's going to have those receivers just running, crossing routes all over the field.
40:37Give Trevor some time back there.
40:39I'm not sold on our edge play.
40:42And do I think we're going to cover you?
40:44Damn right.
40:45I do.
40:45I would take the jets to cover.
40:47Absolutely.
40:47So I do think Brady cook and breeze.
40:50I think they're going to do something.
40:51I think this is like a Tanner eng strand.
40:53I don't want to say get right game, but like, I want to show you what I could do with the UDFA.
40:57You gave me Justin Fields.
40:59You tried to ruin my career here.
41:01I'm going to come in and show you what I can do with the guy that nobody wanted to draft.
41:05So I do think we're going to put up some points here.
41:07I actually, it's going to be a little shootout here, guys.
41:11We're going to have a little shootout on our hands, but I have, uh, I have the Jaguars,
41:16uh, 31 jets, 27.
41:21That's a lot of points for the jets.
41:23A lot of points this week.
41:24I'm telling you that's, I'm telling you guys, you know,
41:27I'm just letting you know.
41:28Like, what are we doing here?
41:30Cause it's like 10.
41:33I'm going to keep, I'm going to keep mine short, Ryan.
41:35Cause Frankie has already talked way too much about this game.
41:40Uh, yeah.
41:42Joe Burrow is not walking through that door.
41:45Neither is Kyler Murray.
41:47Um, you know, I, I don't want to dump on Brady cook.
41:52I thought he did some decent things last week and he looked more comfortable in the second
41:55half, but I think this is a tough assignment.
41:58And, uh, I think the jets cover.
42:01I do think they will cover that spread.
42:03It's big.
42:04Uh, but I'll go, uh, Jaguars, 24 jets, 14.
42:09I think their jets are going to have a tough time running the ball on this defense.
42:12I think braces banged up.
42:14Um, so don't, don't discount that.
42:17And, uh, you know, I, I don't think, I think they would, their path to winning this game
42:21is running the ball and turning Trevor Lawrence over.
42:25And we know how they do with that.
42:27I will.
42:28I mean, you know what?
42:28I'm going to go in here, right?
42:29Here's my big prediction for the week.
42:31The jets get their first interception of the season.
42:34I want his stiggers.
42:36Quantez stiggers picks off Trevor Lawrence.
42:38Ooh, I like that.
42:41I like that call stiggers.
42:43Can I get a line on that from FanDuel or something?
42:46Uh, do you want a line on a stiggers?
42:49Stiggers stiggers intercepting Trevor Lawrence.
42:51Can we go that specific?
42:52I can't get that specific, but I can give you, I can give you Trevor Lawrence plus one 13
42:58to throw an interception against the jets.
43:00It's plus money.
43:02I don't hate that.
43:03All right.
43:04Uh, I think, you know, where I'm going with this one, guys.
43:07Uh, we're all on the Jaguars here.
43:08I don't think the jets can handle ETN in the run game.
43:11Uh, they don't turn the ball over.
43:13They do nothing defensively at all.
43:14Well, um, and I think the Jaguars are going to steamroll the jets.
43:17It's going to be like another one of those where they'll get on the jets quick and fast.
43:21And then Brady cook's going to be asked to do stuff that he's just not comfortable doing.
43:26Um, and I also think that the Brady cook, you know, not hype, but like mini like, Oh,
43:30he did some things.
43:31Well, it's going to fall off real quick and everyone's going to realize, Oh, that's an undrafted
43:35rookie.
43:35Probably shouldn't be playing in the NFL right now.
43:37And I think he's going to struggle mightily.
43:39Uh, probably he's going to throw multiple interceptions again.
43:42I think the jets offensive line, uh, is going to try their best, but I think they're going
43:45to be put in a bad, bad situation because the Jaguars are going to stack against the
43:48run.
43:49Brees Hall is not going to get really anything going.
43:51He's got the knee injury already.
43:52Uh, I got the Jaguars 24 jets, six.
43:56They are going to cover in this one.
43:58Uh, this is going to be an, that's a good score prediction, Ryan.
44:00Yeah.
44:01I don't think it's a couple of field goals in this one.
44:04Uh, that's a show that's gangs all here.
44:07Uh, make sure to hit that, like it subscribe button on the New York post sports YouTube
44:10channel, follow Frankie and I for this Sunday for the post game live show, follow causes
44:15coverage all throughout the weekend.
44:16Cause real quick, my final question for you.
44:18Are we for sure Brady cooks going to be the starter this weekend?
44:22No, we're about two minutes away from Aaron Glenn's press conference.
44:25So I think we'll find out then, but neither guy practiced fields or Taylor yesterday.
44:30So I don't see any scenario where they're playing Sunday.
44:33If they're not practicing on Thursday, you heard it there guys.
44:36We'll see.
44:36Make sure to pay attention to cause here, uh, for the presser and see what the heck going
44:39on with this quarterback situation.
44:41We'll catch you next time guys.
