00:00Another week, another loss for the New York Jets.
00:03This time they fall in Jacksonville, 48-20 to the Jaguars.
00:07We're going to break it down.
00:08Jets, they only have three more games left to go in the season,
00:10but we're going to talk about it with the great sports reporter
00:13and anchor for New York One, my good friend Stephanie Manasero joins me now.
00:17Steph, how are you doing?
00:18Hopefully better than the Jets.
00:19How's it going?
00:20Yeah, definitely better than the Jets.
00:21It was nice to wake up to some snow today.
00:24It was nice to see some snow today,
00:25although I will say the weather in Jacksonville looked just fine.
00:28There were people in the pool at the game that looked just fine to me.
00:32They had more fun than the Jets,
00:33and the Jaguars rolled all over the Jets.
00:36But I'm going to try to find some positives,
00:38or at least try to with you in this one.
00:40And let's talk about Brady Cook,
00:42because the rookie QB, he got his first start of his NFL career.
00:45He threw his first touchdown in the league.
00:48That's a nice moment for him.
00:49Some Jets fans might have been looking for him to give them some hope,
00:53some positivity.
00:55Steph, what did you make of what we saw from Cook
00:58today in his performance against the Jaguars' first NFL start?
01:01What did you make of it?
01:02There definitely was some positivity, right?
01:04I think it's kind of one of those games where you're like,
01:06all right, what are we playing for here?
01:08What are we watching for here?
01:10Let's see what this kid can do.
01:12And as a fan of the game of football, right,
01:14when you get excited for a guy like Brady Cook,
01:17who's getting an opportunity to do what he did today, right?
01:20Undrafted rookie, a practice squad player
01:22who got cut in the preseason, making his first start in the NFL,
01:25and he got off to a good start.
01:27He looked better this week than last,
01:29which I think is as expected when you're not getting pulled into the game
01:32off the bench and you have a week of practice under your belt
01:34and more of a game plan catered to you.
01:37And look, the first quarter, right?
01:39Six of six, 51 yards, and that touchdown you mentioned.
01:42I think it was nice to see this Jets offense have a little success
01:46through the air.
01:47That was so much of the issue with Justin Fields.
01:49He wasn't really able to find that.
01:51Do I think today's performance has Jets ownership saying,
01:55like, this is the future face of our franchise.
01:57We found the quarterback that we've been looking for.
02:00Not necessarily, but did he go out there and do a decent job
02:04against a Jags defense that came into this game
02:07as the top rushing defense in the league?
02:09Yeah, he did.
02:11Yeah, I think you take that.
02:12Yes, the Jets are still out here looking for their quarterback
02:15in the future.
02:16They know they do not have that right now.
02:19On the other side of the ball, the defense,
02:20you're going to look at the score and say 48 to 20.
02:22Jets gave up 48 points here today to the Jags.
02:25Trevor Lawrence throws for five scores in this one.
02:28When it comes to this defense, are you surprised at how bad
02:31they've looked at times under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn,
02:35who's calling card as defense?
02:36Does that surprise you more?
02:37Or is it the fact that this defense, through 14 games,
02:42does not have an interception, which is more surprising,
02:45just how terribly they've looked overall,
02:47the fact they still do have not recorded an interception this season?
02:50Which is crazy.
02:51I think it's an NFL record, right?
02:52Yeah, it is.
02:53It is wild for a team that, you know, has lauded its defense
02:56and especially on that side of the ball.
02:58But if someone had told you that this Jets offense
03:00with Brady Cook under center was going to come in today
03:03and put up 20 points, I think you would say,
03:05okay, their defense can certainly keep them in this game.
03:08But 48 points allowing Trevor Lawrence to throw, what,
03:11for like 330 yards?
03:13It's a tough spot to put any offense in, let alone a rookie quarterback,
03:17whether you're a 24- or 44-year-old Phillip Rivers out there, right?
03:20Like, it's a tough deficit.
03:21Heading into this one, I did think the Jets defense
03:25would match up well against this Jags offense.
03:29They did have a few chances there to make it a one-possession game
03:32and kind of shot themselves in the foot,
03:34as the Jets have tended to do this season.
03:36And Travis Etienne, I mean, just explosive, couldn't stop him,
03:41catching passes, running over.
03:43I think it is upsetting.
03:44It's frustrating, right, that the lone bright spot,
03:47your defense, allows a team to put up 48 points against you.
03:52Yeah, not what you want here, even at this stage of the season
03:55where you're playing for pride.
03:56And speaking of that, playing for pride, the Jets, as I mentioned,
03:59now 2-12 on the season.
04:02What should fans keep their eye on the rest of the way with the Jets?
04:05Because it's not like there's a quarterback on this roster.
04:08Brady Cook, you just kind of talked about what he is.
04:11We know what Justin Fields is.
04:12We've seen Tyrod Taylor.
04:14What should Jets fans be looking at with this team
04:17that maybe could give them some hope for the future?
04:21I don't know that I'm keeping my eye on necessarily anything different
04:25than we've been talking about since the trade deadline, really,
04:27at this point, right?
04:28The biggest question marks running this team is still the future, right?
04:32What pieces are they going to go out there and get?
04:33Right now they have a lot of draft picks over the next few seasons.
04:37We've talked about this, right?
04:38Like they have to draft wisely.
04:40And not only that, they have to then develop players well.
04:43So I don't know that these next three games, I mean,
04:46we're talking about games with the Saints, which is a winnable game,
04:48though I have to say, the little I've watched, Tyler Shuck,
04:51I do like the way he moves.
04:52But the Patriots and the Bills,
04:55I don't know how much success you're going to find against them
04:57at this point in the season.
04:59If anything, over these next three games, I guess we're looking for flashes
05:03of success that you could take into next season.
05:08Again, frustrating that on the defensive side of the ball,
05:11which was supposed to be your stronger side,
05:13that it's just not been working out.
05:16Special teams, if anything, has been what's been keeping this team
05:20in most of these games that they've been competitive in.
05:23Yeah, special teams has been a bright spot for the Jets.
05:26They even had a touchdown taken away today on a return
05:29that could have been huge for them.
05:30But the Jets now 2-12, just three games left in the season.
05:34It's been a rough season for gangrene fans.
05:37And hopefully, hopefully if you're a Jets fan out there,
05:39you can find some bright spots over the final three games.
05:42Jets play next week down in the Big Easy against the Saints.
05:46We'll see how that goes.
05:47That is Stephanie Manizzaro.
05:48Check her out on New York One.
05:49Fantastic sports reporter and anchor for them.
05:51Steph, don't know if we'll talk that much more about the Jets
05:55for the rest of the season, but I hope the next time we talk,
05:57there's something a little bit more positive to say.
06:00It'll be an interesting offseason, at the very least.
06:02That is true.
