00:07hello welcome to gang's all here our draft recap for the 2026 class i'm ryan sampson
00:12that's our jets beat writer brian costell and that's my guy frankie vittery from u stadium
00:16today is monday april 27th fellas we have officially finished up the draft after all
00:21the talk leading up to it we recapped the first round but now we get to recap the entire draft
00:25itself before we get to any of that i'll start with kaz how you feeling how was your saturday
00:29i know it was a long one but how you feeling right now on a monday now that the jets
00:33are done with
00:33the draft recovering recover i'm looking forward to tomorrow i got a day off tomorrow looking forward
00:38to that saturday was long i had to listen to connor hughes's nonsense the whole day you know
00:44i was hoping he was gonna go to giants but instead he was at jets and talking about banana foam
00:51something from starbucks that he loves like and dragon fruit he was obsessed with dragon fruit
00:57saturday so that's that's that's a glimpse into my world are we talking smoothies what are we
01:01talking about here just fruit in general i thought it was coffee some banana bread foam are you guys
01:08starbucks guys i am i like the vanilla i like the vanilla protein foam i won't lie to you there
01:13the
01:13cold foam is good yeah i'm not a i'm not a starbucks guy i'm not a coffee guy in general
01:17so i don't know
01:18but yeah he was he was talking about some banana bread topping on his coffee or something i don't know
01:24cause you don't drink coffee i do not drink coffee that's insane what's that did you ever
01:33drink coffee i've never had coffee no you never like wanted to try it you never felt the need to
01:39have to be caffeinated or anything like that like i drink a lot of soda so that's where i'm getting
01:44my
01:44caffeine from um that's my that is my advice in life is uh diet soda so i uh i drink
01:55a lot of that
01:55that's insane like i i couldn't operate on this job without caffeine uh that you've never actually
02:01i mean you're doing it via soda but like the fact that you don't drink coffee is crazy you're not
02:06the
02:06only person though like you're like the second or third person i met in my life that doesn't drink
02:10coffee and i look at him i don't know how you do this job without any coffee but soda is
02:14obviously
02:15another way like you said to get through the caffeine um but look guys we're here now uh it's
02:20monday and i guess i want to start uh just with your initial thoughts from the overviewing this
02:25entire class now cause that we've gone from the first round all the way to the seventh what do you
02:29make of this jets 2026 class yeah i like i've said the other day guys when you guys after the
02:36first
02:36round we're talking about grading right i don't grade right so but i grade on logic i like to see
02:41what the logic was they have a plan were they reaching for players did i sense any panic like
02:46this is there any player that doesn't make sense and i don't see that here i think it all makes
02:51sense
02:51um you know i questioned why they traded up for club nick but i did some reporting yesterday and found
02:58out they they thought there was a pretty good chance there were two teams ahead of them that might
03:03take club that were interested and they felt that everyone knew that the jets were going to take a
03:08quarterback in the fourth round since they didn't have a fifth round pick or a sixth round pick at the
03:11time so they thought they had the job and they looked he was the guy they liked so i understand
03:17the
03:17logic there now after after doing some reporting um but yeah overall i think they had a plan uh i
03:24think
03:24the first four guys are guys that can contribute immediately which is what you had to come out of this
03:28draft with and i understand the thinking on each of them so you know and then in on the third
03:35day
03:36you're taking shots like we'll see but i think i think i had jackson in one of my mock drafts
03:43at one
03:43point i thought he made sense they could add some beef in the middle still um you don't know how
03:48long
03:48some of those guys are going to be here uh they don't have a lot of long-term guys in
03:51the middle
03:52and then uh the offensive lineman in the sixth i like them adding to the interior depth and the
03:57safety in the seventh feels like a value pick from what i've read about him seems like he could
04:02have gone earlier and athletic traits uh that's what you look for and you know he probably can
04:07come in and contribute immediately on special teams no look i i i agree with you cause on the
04:12logic part it definitely didn't feel like they were reaching much they definitely drafted for need
04:16and the big thing was is something that we talked about before the draft right they had to get at
04:20least three to probably four starters from those top four picks now they ended up bringing that second
04:25uh first second round pick into the first round by trading back in the first round but they look
04:31like they got actually three to probably four legitimate starters here that they can build forward
04:36to frankie what did you make of the class overall now that we're a couple days removed
04:41guys i love the first two days i think they nailed it out of the park so i think you
04:46take those first
04:47four picks um that's exactly what you're looking for and good four guys from really good programs to
04:52winning programs you know bailey texas tech sadiq oregon and then you had uh omar cooper jr and
05:00d'angelo pons both from indiana so i mean that was a common theme i think from muji's perspective
05:06even later on they get the kid from miami winning program like they they were really looking i think to
05:12get guys that have a ton of athleticism coupled with a bunch of production from winning programs
05:17i think that might be a little bit i know kaz muji was talking about that um in sort of
05:23their post
05:24draft sort of presser saying that they came up with this new scale system and they were looking
05:28at new ways of putting things together i think maybe something like that was was part of what this
05:34scale had to do with like how good was the team that they were on you know production scores you
05:38saw
05:39were kind of off the charts with these guys so yeah i'm curious yeah yeah i mean look i wrote
05:44about that
05:45like glenn glenn talked about it a lot after day one um you know and then they added pons on
05:50day two
05:51who's another one from indiana i'm a little skeptical of that idea like i understand the
05:56thinking but like most most good football players come from good football programs like
06:03i don't know i would have to do this i didn't look at it but like let's we'd have to
06:07look at like
06:07the top 10 how many of those teams were bad teams that those guys came from right like and like
06:13when they drafted quinnon williams he came from alabama and i remember they were like oh alabama
06:18like and quinnon did more losing than anybody here with the jets not quinnon's fault i'm not saying
06:23that but he he was part of a lot of losing gary wilson came from ohio state cincinnati had been
06:28in
06:28the playoffs when sauce got here typically you're drafting guys from good programs uh that early in
06:34the draft but yeah they it was a theme they they definitely got a lot of guys and well i
06:40just don't
06:40know how much those guys can influence culture early on as rookies in their career like they're
06:46rookies are usually seen and not heard too much so but it's an interesting theory to for them to try
06:52and aaron glenn was definitely very high on that and you know obviously they're they're basically
06:59overturning the roster completely trying to change the culture here and and this is part of it yeah and
07:03i think cause to further emphasize your point too when you're taking players high in the draft like
07:08the jets were three times in the first round you're more than likely going to get the top players
07:12that are going to those good those good programs that you mentioned uh i mean just looking at the
07:17top 10 from this year obviously you have mendoza from national championship in indiana bailey from
07:21texas tech jeremiah love from notre dame you got back-to-back ohio state picks you had lsu for
07:26mansoor delane another ohio state pick in sunny styles arizona state you can argue not a great pick but
07:31jordan tyson highly touted as a wide receiver utah they had spencer finneau and then you have miami
07:37uh florida who was obviously a national championship with francis uh maui noah so
07:42there's yeah so utah arizona state notre dame weren't in the playoffs right obviously though like
07:47notre dame was in the playoffs last year arizona state in the playoffs last year utah has been a
07:52good program but yeah it's it's an interesting theory um uh and i think it beats taking losing
07:58programs so yeah like like from just last year too like these are those teams were all in like
08:05the final four or five yeah they're all in the playoffs yeah it's funny because like indiana
08:11played oregon and oregon played texas tech and you know like they played these guys played each other
08:15a lot so yeah it's i also think too that if you look at it with the shift in college
08:20football
08:21this is going to happen more and more like i think i saw like there was nobody from any fcs
08:26programs taken in the first two days i think i read and maybe i saw someone did a breakdown in
08:32the conferences and like there was hardly anyone taken from fcs and uh from the the you know the
08:39smaller the what is it group of six they're called like not the power five schools so i think yeah
08:45those guys that may have been from losing programs that were drafted in the past are now transferring to
08:50winning programs and yeah and so like right because like ponds the ponds is the ponds was from james
08:56madison we'd be looking at him a little different than drafted from indiana um and a few of these guys
09:02transferred around right like i think the sixth round pick cooper from miami he had been he transferred
09:07from maryland i think uh and i mean it may have been somewhere else in between so some of these
09:13guys
09:13now have two or three schools on their resumes yeah so look uh let's run through the rest of this
09:17draft since we did a recap uh round one on friday go check out that episode of gangs all here
09:22wherever
09:22you get your podcast obviously here on the new york post sports youtube channel but going into round
09:27two they took d'angelo ponds five foot nine corner from indiana they ended up getting him at the 50th
09:32throwable pick after trading back cause do you think that uh that they were really targeting jacob
09:38rodriguez and then when he was taken right before them they said you know what let's move back a couple
09:41spots because we think we can get ponds back there yeah i don't know i don't know if they were
09:46targeting rodriguez there i think i think you know they they probably whatever was they probably
09:51viewed it as there was there was a bunch of guys they had graded together they could move back six
09:56spots and get one of them um but yeah so somebody you might have jumped them right to get rodriguez
10:02was
10:02that was that what it was yeah i i didn't hear that i didn't hear that they were targeting rodriguez
10:07but it's certainly possible yeah uh and then that was it for day two so obviously they made the pick
10:13for d'angelo ponds you know guy who's i think universally praised i really enjoyed the comments
10:18that mugi had revealed to you guys in the media after the pick was that he they talked to a
10:22bunch
10:22of wide receivers what was the toughest corner you faced a lot of them said d'angelo ponds which i
10:27think is interesting to reveal that part of your process and how you're evaluating players um and
10:32then they go into day three like you said they took daryl jackson defensive tackle from florida state
10:35they take kate klubnik in the 110th overall pick uh quarterback from clemson they get the guard
10:41and ez cooper from miami at the 108th pick and then they take safety slash db vj pain with their
10:46seventh round pick in 228th overall uh kate klubnik becomes the eighth quarterback guys drafted
10:52since geno smith in 2013 for the jets joining this illustrious history of jets quarterback history
10:59so i do want to ask you about kate klubnik i know you talked about how they thought that there
11:03are other teams that were going to take him before them what more can you say about kate klubnik uh
11:08do you think that this is a guy who can actually compete for the backup spot with brady cook and
11:14bailey zappy to be the number two behind geno smith i thought you were going to quiz me on the
11:19eight
11:19guys maybe later maybe i don't know if i can do that maybe i can do it uh look that
11:25i think this is a
11:26guy that they were high on going into the season uh he had a really good uh 2024 season 36
11:33touchdowns
11:34so i think they were high on him then um you know obviously he did not have a good 20
11:382025 season
11:40for whatever reason but they felt comfortable with him they talked about the combine i guess
11:44he had a really good interview at the combine and then they went down to clemson and worked him out
11:49uh and frank i you know this has frank reich written all over it to me like him and bill
11:54must great must like this guy and then this was the one they were targeting they felt that um
12:00beck and aller were going to be on the third round they had those kind of peg this third round
12:04picks so i think they this was the one they were looking at and they were not high on nussmeyer
12:09and
12:09obviously neither were 31 other teams right he fell all the way down to like 250 right or somewhere
12:15around there in the late seventh round pick by the chiefs so i think there was a drop off after
12:21that
12:21for them and like i said before i think they were thinking you know with no fifth and sixth round
12:25pick
12:26everybody knew they were going to be taking one in the fourth round why wait they weren't in love
12:30with that last pick in the fourth round they didn't feel like they had anyone there and there was
12:34somebody i don't know if it was i don't know if it was cooper in the sixth round they they
12:38felt good
12:38about going to the sixth round to get somebody and so maybe cooper and so they got that sixth round
12:45pick back in the trade and felt that they won the trade also if you do the value chart they
12:50felt they
12:50came out ahead on the trade and did it so club nick you know can he compete we got to
12:56see ryan like i
12:56want to see him on the field the rookie minicamp will be uh not this weekend but next weekend so
13:02that'll be the first chance to see him and then i think he'll get plenty of reps all spring um
13:07i don't
13:08see why he couldn't compete for the job as it's currently constituted now do the jets go out and get
13:13a
13:14veteran then it might get tougher right if he's competing with someone who's a little more established
13:19after the number two he might then be competing for the number three but if it's him and zappy
13:23and brady cook sure why couldn't he be the number two in that group yeah frankie uh what do you
13:28think
13:28do you think kate club nick could uh compete i mean i don't know what his injury situation is also
13:36i
13:36know cause didn't muji bring that up that maybe he was playing this yeah he said he played hurt last
13:41year yeah he said he played hurt last year i i gotta do some more looking at that i haven't
13:46looked at
13:47that yet but he you look at clemson guys too it's a weird thing right like i before we went
13:55on air
13:55i was saying our colleague zach braziller picked clemson to win the national championship last year
13:59our college football writer and i i enjoyed giving him grief all season about that but clemson was
14:05highly projected i think they were number four in the country entering the season uh and then they
14:10lost to lsu i believe the first weekend and things kind of went downhill but like you look at their
14:14guys like and and frankie you can probably talk to this it's not just katie klubnik who was projected
14:20high and fell peter woods fell uh the edge rusher right parker yep right he fell right like they all
14:29kind of had this weird season last year and so yeah i did not watch clemson enough to know exactly
14:35what
14:35happened but it seemed like something was going on there where they just they just were they just
14:41were derailed like they just had a bad season all around but like you look at this kid's
14:46resume from high school he was the number one player in the country and he went to west lake in
14:51texas which is a football factory where drew breeze went they were 34 and oh he beat queen ewers
14:58was that didn't baker go there west lake i'm not sure if baker went there i know breeze did but
15:04he
15:04they like he beat queen ewers in this epic game in the texas state playoffs so pretty impressive
15:12resume and then he did a lot of good things at clemson it's just last year he just didn't quite
15:17live up to those expectations that were there for him so i think he's we talked a lot guys ty
15:23simpson before the draft 15 starts well this is a guy who's the opposite end of the spectrum he started
15:28a lot of games at clemson and he's a very experienced quarterback that the jets are getting
15:34um but you know it's a fourth round pick it's it's a dart throw we'll we'll see what he can
15:40do
15:40if uh if he ever really gets on the field for the jets yes even you look at avian terrell
15:46he fell
15:47to pick 48 people him in the first round antonio williams before the year people had him as being like
15:54a top six or seven receiver he went into the third round so the yeah you're right there they had
15:59a
15:59bunch of guys that sort of fell out of what their you know pre-college you know you know season
16:03rank
16:04was for sure it's actually kind of crazy if you go down the list there's there's a bunch more also
16:08if you dig yeah they had like a really disappointing season yeah it's a weird thing uh baker mayfield went
16:16to actually uh lake travis which is west lake they're like rivals right there in uh in elston texas that
16:22i've
16:22known that area for a little bit but because i think uh didn't garrett wilson go to lake uh
16:27lake travis with brett baity yeah with brett baity yeah i'm pretty sure they played together there so
16:34uh definitely produces some nfl talent in that area they're they're huge there um frankie i'm i'm
16:39interested to hear your thoughts you know just about d'angelo pons as well second round pick
16:44undersized a little bit uh obviously people are labeling in those ultra competitor we hear the
16:50comparisons to aaron glenn coming out of out of college as well undersized but extremely fast
16:55plays the ball well up in the air uh the jets addressed really i think a depth need there for
17:01a corner what do you think about the pick for pons man i love the pick i think it's a
17:06very high floor
17:07pick there is really no way i can see d'angelo pons let's say just being a complete utter bust
17:13in the
17:13nfl he is so physical he's so confident in how he plays the game he plays really fast he can
17:21he's a
17:2243 and a half inch vert super strong number one production score he had out of all corners in this
17:29draft problem is he's a shade under 5 9 now that is a problem but that's really the only problem
17:36he has
17:37because if he was 5 11 he'd be a top you know 20 pick in this draft maybe even higher
17:43honestly that's
17:44how good i think he is so i look at him as being someone with a very high floor someone
17:48that's going
17:48to be a cornerback to a better dj reed i really like him for today's nfl too because i think
17:56him
17:56playing inside and out and i think he could play out too i think he's physical enough with receivers
18:01and how he's able to kind of move before they move he kind of has that skill set um but
18:07on the
18:08inside guys i i i like him you know matching up with some tight ends kenyan sadiq mentioned that
18:13he was the best you know d-back he faced all year and i think there's something to be said
18:18about just
18:18how physical and confident he is pons does not back down to anybody and i think the jets need guys
18:24like that now you know is he going to be a cb1 and you know make an all pro as
18:31as you know a ps2 or
18:33something no he's not but is he someone that i'm unless you know injury aside he'll be on you know
18:38starting on this team and you know two three years and probably will be a fan favorite in the way
18:43he
18:43plays i think so so listen he got drafted where he deserves to be drafted i don't i didn't give
18:49the i
18:49graded i didn't give like an a plus i gave the grade it's a b plus it's just a really
18:53good pick
18:53really good spot really high floor player there was a few other guys you could have looked at at
18:58that spot maybe but um i like the pick a ton i think uh the defense needs someone like that
19:04so um
19:05i i really like the pick i think it was it was good considering sadiq cooper even bailey those guys
19:13have really high ceilings in my opinion so um all three yeah he kind of high floors it so it
19:20kind of
19:20balances out a bit i'm curious cause what you think about this this db uh group here now that
19:25the jets have pieced together we have the free agent former free agent signing uh brandon stevens
19:30they brought in uh nation right from chicago you have azri thomas who they drafted a couple years ago
19:36they brought in jarvis brownlee who they traded to from the titans now you have ponds quantes stiggers
19:41what is this rotation you think gonna kind of work itself out with aaron glenn trying to piece this
19:48defense together yeah i think that's going to be one of the big stories of training camp is just
19:54how they piece this all together and i think they've got some flexible flexibility with ponds like
20:00like frankie said i think they will try to play him outside and inside and around um and then you
20:05add the safeties to that group i think there's some more versatility there with the safeties um
20:11um but yeah i think i think if you're looking at a weakness right now the jets is probably the
20:16secondary um you know i i don't know i don't know if you feel 100 confidently i like the pickup
20:25ponds
20:25right but he's going to be a rookie he's going to have some rookie problems it's he's it's not going
20:29to click for him immediately and uh i think nation writes a kind of a gamble off of last year
20:36can he duplicate that kind of production interception wise i'm not sure uh how much does
20:42minka have left there's a question back there who's playing next to him so there's questions
20:46in the secondary run i think if you were picking you're looking at the team and kind of going
20:50through each position group that's one where uh you're a little concerned right now yeah it makes
20:55sense i mean look there there's definitely a lot of high end in terms of like draft capital they put
21:01into that position when you think about like the fact that they invested into um you know a guy like
21:07quanta stiggers who i think was a late round pick but they have azri thomas now with d'angelo ponds
21:11and then bringing in late late round picks and safety from malachi moore to vj pain now uh and they
21:18signed
21:18dave belton obviously to bring him into the safety room too with minka fitzpatrick and andre cisco
21:23it just feels like a a interesting group like you said that is a question mark heading into to training
21:29camp eventually is how does this group position itself how because that's the big thing right
21:34guys like we know how bad the pass rush was and why the jets were so focused on getting a
21:38bailey or
21:39reset too that they couldn't cover guys on the back end and they need to be able to cover against
21:44some
21:44of these high-end octane offenses that they're going to be going against the afc week to week right
21:49frankie yeah man definitely definitely i mean like just if you just want to talk about like guarding the
21:56deep ball um they don't really have many guys on that defense that you want to trust running with
22:03someone on a deep ball i mean ponds can run with them but he's small so like you know him
22:09getting
22:09mossed is definitely a thing um although he can jump he has a 43 and a half inch for an
22:15easy
22:16very aggressive to the ball when he has to be but yeah that's it that safety play is going to
22:21be
22:21intriguing how they're going to use minka fitzpatrick and malachi more and some of these
22:25other players i i have no clue i don't know if they're going to play people are saying they're
22:29going to play minka more up but then again who's playing deep are you going to bring in you know
22:34another safety in the game is he like going to be like a big nickel kind of player i don't
22:38really know
22:39glenn's got a lot to figure out with his defense like kaz was saying i mean like he's this is
22:44a big
22:44challenge for him i think the talent's there maybe that's secondary not as much but
22:49the front seven not to transition there but there's some guys up there right and cause that
22:55i think like you can move guys around and there's no reason you don't have stretches where
23:01the jets defense looks looks better than it did at points last year i know i had said yeah you
23:07know
23:07yeah i think where we're at too with the nfl guys is like i know there was like three are
23:13they
23:13got on three four they're on four three like we're now in i think in a time where it's more
23:19moving the chess pieces around and figuring it out i think you saw all these tight ends get
23:24drafted in this draft yeah and that tells me like teams now are going to go 12 personnel a lot
23:30because
23:30they feel like they can make the defense a little more static with a 12 like you kind of know
23:35what
23:36the defense is going to do if you have two tight ends on the field or three tight ends on
23:39the field
23:40and 13 personnel that feels like the next step strategically for me in the nfl and the defense
23:47now has to carry with some creativity and i think glenn has to figure out the secondary and he has
23:52to
23:52figure out how he's going to move these defensive line pieces around right can can we can can bailey
23:58and mcdonald be on the field at the same time if it's first and 10 like i know they can
24:02on third and
24:0212 but can they be on the field to get a third and third first and 10 how does he
24:08use any bari how
24:09does he use osai like the the pieces in the middle it's going to be interesting to see how
24:15he deploys all these guys the pieces of the middle are interesting too with david on yamada with
24:19tovandre sweat who they got from the titans harrison phillips is obviously back again you add daryl
24:24jackson juwan briggs who i think has had some nice moments last year they got they got bodies and depth
24:30like you would hope actual depth cause right but it's just a matter of actually putting it into
24:34production now like we can like all these pieces all that we want but it's it's really a huge task
24:39for mary glenn considering where he was left off last year with steve wilkes and the shape of this
24:44defense like i'm i like that they added all this talent and free agency and draft but there is still
24:50that huge equation of do the math put these guys in the right spots and hopefully you got better
24:55position coaching now with dunbar in place and other guys and maybe you could finally make this defense
25:01somewhat representable and not be out of the game by halftime again you know
25:06yeah right yeah totally i think go ahead right frankie oh no i was gonna say like quickly if
25:12you look at like let's say what steve spagnola has done in his career how he's able to utilize
25:17defensive linemen take guys that play on the outside put them at a three tech he did it in with
25:22the giants he did a little bit of that with the rams and now he's doing that with the chiefs
25:25you got
25:25guys like karlovkus getting big deals and chris jones like there's something to be said about
25:29defensive guys and coaches that can really be unique and creative at a certain spot glenn's got
25:36to do that honestly i mean it's it's it's his time to shine in that regard it's in some way
25:41shape or
25:41form i'm not saying he has to do it you know based on the front seven per se but
25:48if you look to last thing i'll say like two deep safeties teams are playing these two deep safeties
25:53uh that middle of the field is open so cause to what you're saying like teams want to bring
25:59tight ends just streaking across the middle of the field it's like the isaiah likely thing
26:03like get as many guys as you can you know let's let's stay let's get our quarterback moving outside
26:09the pocket get these guys streaking i mean like you know i yeah the jets scare me though from a
26:14deep
26:14perspective i don't know like how they're gonna manage in that regard but um hopefully the pass rush
26:20gets there in time we'll see we'll see uh in the afc east is obviously not easy with with uh
26:26josh
26:26allen you got malik willis now with the dolphins and drake may with the patriots and we'll obviously
26:31see if the patriots make that trade for aj brown uh it's not going to be easy going up against
26:35some
26:36of these high octane offenses like i said in the afc especially in your own division um cause i do
26:42want
26:42to finish up with uh the inez cooper pick seems like a mauler seems like a big dude i know
26:47he's a big guy
26:48um the jets we talked about it again before the draft that they should address the offensive line
26:53they do at that spot at guard um i mean are they okay you think in the spot that they're
26:59in right
27:00now with the starting five and the depth that they put on here by adding cooper into that into
27:04that room i don't think any team has offensive line depth right i think it's a myth like i i
27:12think
27:12every team gets gets screwed like there's just not enough people on earth that can play that
27:17position right like it's amazing to me um i don't know if they end up moving to the defensive line
27:23when they're young or something but it's very hard to find guys there so i think you feel good about
27:28the starting five uh i don't know what dylan parham i gotta see him like more i don't know what
27:33he'll
27:34be but obviously the other four guys we saw last year they're sort of rolling the dice with josh
27:38myers that they can get another season out of him that they got last year he was good i feel
27:44like you
27:44feel good about the tackles and you feel good about titman um and then yeah depth like i said i
27:50think
27:50depth is a question wherever you go i don't think any team can really sustain a lot of injuries on
27:55the
27:55offensive line so you worry about this is what you worry about with the jets offensive line they had
28:02unbelievable health last year like they had the same five guys the whole season which is crazy
28:08granted abt was out but their starting right guard abt went out before week one right he did
28:13but they had crazy health all season long after abt can they duplicate can you get count on that again
28:20i doubt it and we know for many years this is what plagued the jets a lot of times was
28:26that i mean
28:26under joe douglas they went through so many offensive line combinations because of the injuries it was
28:32incredible so uh yeah you wonder odds say that they don't they won't be able to stay as healthy
28:39as they did last year on the offensive line um and then depth becomes a factor certainly will it
28:46certainly will fellas uh i do want to finish up here with i saw some video of geno smith thrown
28:51to
28:51garrett wilson obviously they're getting their offseason work in now for the first time those two
28:54trying to develop some chemistry cause i'm curious what you think you know geno coming in here i know
29:00we've asked you like what are the realistic expectations now he's got the additions of
29:04sadiq he's got the addition of omar cooper with ad mitchell and garrett wilson and mason taylor
29:09with the offensive line we just talked about not to mention the breeze hall contract that
29:13you know dare muji acknowledged that's my number one thing i'm probably going to try to work on here
29:18at this upcoming week and the weeks weeks following is there's some real pieces we feel like on this
29:24offensive side of the ball now yeah how quickly or what do you what are the early signs
29:29you're going to be paying attention to for geno and crew to show some kind of chemistry here
29:36yeah it's a good question right i don't know when we'll see it right because otas are hard to judge
29:41that kind of stuff um you know probably the dog days at camp and i'm sure they're going to do
29:47some
29:47joint practices uh i've heard maybe houston i've heard maybe tampa bay heard some things about joint
29:53practices so uh those are that's probably when i'll look for it right like i think that's usually
29:58when you start getting answers is when they're on the field with another team and we don't get that
30:02so much in preseason games anymore because the starters don't play uh but yeah like you'd hope to
30:07see the offense move the ball like when they're facing another defense and can they can they look
30:12functional uh there and then how quickly can they hit the ground running when the season starts
30:17there's a lot of new pieces here including the coordinator you know so everyone's learning a new
30:22offense um you know we'll see how quickly they can gel and i guess we'll get the schedule answer in
30:28a few
30:28weeks that to me is always huge how to schedule we know who they're playing but can the jets get
30:33an easy start because it never feels like they do it feels like they every year the schedule makers
30:40give them a tough a tough tough road at the beginning of the season and they get themselves in a
30:46hole
30:47and then the season just kind of snowballs from there so we'll see like can they get some easy
30:51games to start the year yeah uh you're not wrong there i definitely we're gonna do obviously an
30:58episode as soon as the schedule gets released we'll do our overreaction uh you'll get ryan's
31:02horrible prediction again of how the season's gonna go so that way you guys can make fun of me
31:05you're on playoffs this year again no no chance no chance i'm i'm counting losses you remember last year
31:1110 and 10 and 7 i bought the aaron glenn height way too much way too much fellas what are
31:18you
31:18gonna go this year are you gonna i mean 10 and 7 last year you should go higher this year
31:22i mean
31:22probably the roster is better three three to five wins maybe we'll see wow probably gonna win eight
31:28this is right after the draft you can't be negative why can't you negative after the draft
31:33why can't i be nice this is the this is the most positive time of the year yeah i love
31:39the pieces
31:39they added but the quarterback stinks man it's his quarterback i love g he's better last year's
31:46quarterback i like gino the person i'm not sure i like gino the quarterback like we'll see there's
31:51a reason that didn't go well in las vegas last year i know you can blame the offensive line i
31:55know
31:55you can blame the weapons he's gonna have better groups position groups for both them at the jets
31:59we're talking about a new offensive coordinator we're talking about a head coach that's trying to
32:03save his job storylines are there fellas ryan the passing attack you know is going to be
32:09better though with gino omar cooper jr sadiq frank reich it's frank reich no yeah we'll see you don't
32:17think it's going to be better they're going to throw for more passing yards for sure oh yeah i
32:20mean compared to last year where it was the worst in the nfl for sure you cannot cannot be better
32:24than
32:24last year for sure i know that's where we remember last year you're like you're like you know what i
32:31would like i was dying when you would say this can we get to this uh the two minute drill
32:36or can we
32:37get the two minutes yeah warning the jets have a first half yeah that'd be nice can they score in
32:47the first quarter this year can they just score in the first quarter i remember that there was a year
32:53like this has happened so many years there was a year guys where they they scored score in the first
32:56quarter it was a solid year they couldn't score in the first quarter it was unbelievable and i went
33:01and covered a playoff game it was the giants and the eagles and the eagles remember the eagles blew
33:06the doors off the giants the one day and the eagles must have put up like 28 points in the
33:11first
33:11quarter or something i remember i tweeted yes i didn't know you were allowed to score 28 points in
33:16the first quarter and out of my phone jets jets people oh leave us alone leave us alone you know
33:23so it's realistic though that's all we're doing we're being realistic about what the situation is
33:29you guys are wrong the offense should be better it should be but all great plans never go as courting
33:35a plan in my opinion and like we could be positive as we want like i think this was a
33:40very good solid
33:41draft but i go back to what we talked about earlier because i heard the same stuff three
33:46freaking years ago the jets have three first round picks that were incredible sauce garrett they traded
33:52up for jermaine johnson the jets nailed the draft they got breeze hall they're gonna be amazing
33:58they don't have the quarterback and that's the whole point here they still don't have the quarterback
34:02geno smith was just the quarterback fellas that got the team the number one pick
34:07let's be realistic here and that's what i have to do more often well if he delivers that for you
34:13you'll be happy right i'll be that's the promised land cause and that is how i feel about it
34:19can i all right can i try maybe eight quarterbacks now right yes all right hang on hang on let
34:24me pull
34:24this up because i have a list i do have the list hang on hang on so i want to
34:27make sure i get this
34:28right it's the eight quarterbacks since geno smith was drafted in 2013 correct that is correct
34:33hang on i'm pulling up the quarterbacks quarterbacks we'll pull up the quarterbacks
34:36making sure i get this right it is the eight quarterbacks confident you're gonna nail this
34:41i'm gonna nail this frankie okay so cause you remember when geno smith was drafted correct
34:47yeah 2013 second round all right so going from there give me every single quarterback drafted by the
34:54new york jets including k clubnik kai's boy 2014 bryce petty 2015 christian hackenberg 2016 sam
35:06donald 2018 james morgan 2020 zach wilson 2021 jordan travis what was that 2024 and k clubnik 2026
35:22that's the cause trivia right there and he hits it no problem and that's how we'll end this
35:29that's how we'll end this episode cause going perfect eight for eight there on the quarterbacks
35:33taken since geno smith and now the jets are i've lived it i've lived it you were merely born in
35:40the
35:40darkness i i remember i remember writing the james morgan story when they're practicing in green
35:46bay his high school the shadow of his high school james morgan did anybody actually like james morgan
35:53or think that he was going to be good i don't really recall i don't remember joe douglas must
35:58have but the taj boyd one makes me laugh right because taj boyd was drafted by rex yep because
36:05seth ryan was at clemson at the time remember seth was the holder and seth seth gave rave reviews about
36:11taj boyd well now who's back in the jets building seth ryan and now they take another cleansing
36:16quarterback oh i like that time is a flat circle being a jets fan i swear to god guys that's
